“I didn’t know you were a dog, Soleil? My feeling is strong at first. I thought you were a gentle cat, afraid of people but easy to tame. I made a mistake. You look like a hybrid.” I laughed sarcastically, but I didn’t get upset because I was afraid I would force my stomach. My anger at her was still burning. I can not believe it.
She was annoyed with what I said because she removed her hijab to show her angry eyes. I smiled to tease her even more. I lay down on the hospital bed, then played with my toes.
“What did you say?! Take back what you said!” My brain cells cheered, even more, when they heard Soleil’s scream.
I still remember what you did to us, to my child. I will make sure you will not be happy when something bad happens to my child! I will never forgive you, Soleil. I wanted to tell her that, but I didn’t want to force my body and maybe even harm my baby and me.
While lying down, I caress my stomach. I looked at her as if I was disgusted with her. “Do you know what a hybrid is, Soleil?” I looked at what was quite obvious when I looked at her with my angry eyes. “If there are animals that have been experimented with, you are probably one of them. Soleil, the mythical creature, snake, and dog. ”
“How could you—” she raised her hand and was ready to slap me when I showed her my cold stare. I showed how I regret was that I had helped her.
“All right, try it! You are a dog that eats the words you have already vomited. You are a snake because you look like a kind python, but it bites when your boss turns her back. The snake that changes skin.” I stopped for a moment and took her hand, which was supposed to slap me. I pressed it to my cheek. “Do it! Continue. Show who you are, but remember, Soleil. No matter how much the python changes its skin, it will remain a snake. ”
She fell silent after I said that. I pressed the intercom next to me so mommy Helena could hear me outside. She moved away from me; I waited for her to put on her hijab again before I spoke on the other line. She went to the side.
“Mommy Helena, come in. Also, tell Hugo to buy me mangoes and also buy salt.” After I said that, I looked at her again before Aunt Julia approached her.
It looks like Hugo has left to buy the mangoes I want to eat. Mommy Helena is holding my stomach as if she is thrilled that she will have a grandchild. I know she has something to say, but she can’t because Soleil and Aunt Julia are here. She thought maybe Hugo and I were getting better. Even I wish that would happen.
As we were talking, a man suddenly entered with a basket of fruit. As soon as he approached me, I saw the raw mangoes that were there, so I quickly picked them up. I didn’t even bother to wash or peel it. Mommy Helena even stopped me because she said it might still have dirt.
Wayne laughed when he saw me quickly bite the mango. He messed up my hair, then pinched my nose. “Is the doctor sure you are pregnant? Maybe you’re just greedy and then gain weight. ”
When he said that, everyone laughed, except for Soleil, who was in the corner and couldn’t paint her face. As we joked, Hugo came in with a plastic bag of ripe and raw mangoes. My eyes widened because I forgot in my mind that he was buying mangoes for me!
His eye quickly went to the mango I was biting, so I hid it behind me even though it was too late. I want to bang my head for what I did. Hugo looked at Wayne, who was still facing me and didn’t notice Hugo’s arrival.
When he saw I was no longer listening to him, he turned his back on me where I was looking. He stepped back to give way to Hugo. I even saw Hugo’s bead of sweat, so I felt guilty. I secretly placed the mango on the side table of the hospital bed even though I knew he would see what I was going to do.
I immediately grabbed the plastic he was holding. They are just watching all, even Wayne, who was noisy earlier.
“Don’t—”
Hugo didn’t finish what he was going to say because I was shocked when a sharp knife hit my hand. I hadn’t seen that before because he was carrying dark blue plastic. He immediately took my hand and then looked at the blood.
I was surprised at what he did next because he sucked my finger even though everyone was watching. I stared at Soleil, who was averting her gaze and at Wayne, who was next to her now. The man smiled while raising a thumb. I couldn’t look at mommy Helena and Aunt Julia out of embarrassment. I feel like my face and neck are red from what Hugo is doing. “When are you going to act without haste?” Hugo is now wiping my finger with his clothes while his voice is already a bit irritated.
“Sorry.” That’s all I could say.
I was surprised when Soleil walked out without saying a word. Wayne followed him and just nodded at me.
“It looks like we don’t have to worry because you were taken care of well.” Aunt Julia smiled at me, then smiled at me.
Mommy Helena, Hugo, and I were the only ones left in the room. Mommy Helena’s face suddenly became serious. I was scared of what she did, but eventually, her eyes softened.
“Next time be careful, hmm? Your wedding is near.” She also hugged me, then came out.
I couldn’t lift my gaze to Hugo who seriously played with my finger that still not stopping the bleeding. When I got brave, I looked at him and our eyes met. He looked at the bulge in my stomach, then put his ear there.
“Don’t hurt mommy, okay?”
