Chapter 46 Successful Transaction
She explained everything in great detail, going through each feature clearly.
You could tell she worked really hard, memorizing all the specs of every car in the showroom.
Caroline looked at the car's features, a smile of delight spreading across her face.
"James, this car is really nice. It looks so cute, and the features are great too."
James ruffled her hair, his tone gentle.
"As long as you like it. Let's take it for a test drive first and see how it feels."
"Okay."
Caroline nodded happily.
Heather quickly said,
"Alright, Mr. Anderson, Ms. Collins, I'll go get the test drive keys for you."
Just as Heather turned to get the keys, Zoe suddenly stepped forward, blocking her way with a stern tone.
"Don't you dare! Heather, have you forgotten our store's rules?
We can't let customers test drive unless we're sure they're buying! Besides, he can't afford this car at all. If something happens to the car during the test drive, can you pay for it?"
"Exactly."
Another salesperson chimed in.
"Heather, don't be stupid. He can't afford it at all, and you're still letting him test drive? If something goes wrong with the car, you can't handle that responsibility."
Heather frowned, her tone urgent.
"But he's a customer. If a customer wants to test drive, we should meet their needs. Besides, this gentleman doesn't look like someone who can't afford it."
"Doesn't look like."
Zoe sneered.
"Look at his clothes—all cheap stuff from street markets. Can he afford a five million dollar car? I think you've been fooled by him."
The two were at a standstill when the store manager, Conrad, walked over.
Conrad was a middle-aged man in a suit, looking very serious.
Seeing the tense atmosphere in the store, he frowned and asked,
"What's going on? What happened?"
Zoe immediately rushed forward, looking aggrieved.
"Conrad, thank goodness you're here. This Heather insists on showing this gentleman that five million dollar car,
and even wants to let him test drive it, but he can't afford that car at all. I tried to stop her, but she won't listen and keeps making a scene.
If something happens to the car during the test drive, who's going to take responsibility?"
Conrad glanced at James, looking him up and down with disdain in his eyes.
Then he said to Heather sternly,
"Heather, what's wrong with you? You just started working here—don't you know the rules?
We can't let customers test drive unless we've confirmed they can afford it! He's dressed so ordinary—how could he possibly afford a five million dollar car? You're being ridiculous."
Heather felt wronged and quickly explained,
"Conrad, I'm not being ridiculous. The customer is king. We can't judge people by their appearance. Maybe this gentleman really can afford it? Besides, Ms. Collins really likes this car. They want to test drive it to see if it's comfortable."
Conrad's face turned dark with anger. He pointed at Heather, his tone severe.
"Fine! Since you're so insistent, I'll give you one chance.
You want to let them test drive? Fine, but you have to sign a liability agreement.
If anything happens to the car during the test drive—any scratch or damage—you're responsible. You have to buy this car in full."
Heather felt uneasy. Buy this car in full?
Five million dollars! Even if she didn't eat or drink, she couldn't earn that much in a lifetime.
She hesitated, torn between her grandmother's medical bills and a five million dollar liability. She really couldn't afford it.
She lowered her head, feeling conflicted.
If she gave up, she'd lose the chance to earn the commission, and her grandmother's medical bills would have no solution.
If she signed the agreement and something went wrong during the test drive, she'd be buried in debt for the rest of her life.
Just as she was hesitating, James spoke, his tone cold and commanding.
"No need to sign anything. If anything happens to the car, I'll take responsibility. It has nothing to do with her."
Heather froze, looking up at James with gratitude in her eyes.
Conrad was also stunned, then sneered,
"Sir, that's easy for you to say. This car is worth five million dollars. If something really goes wrong, can you afford it?"
James didn't say anything. He just pulled a black card from his pocket, handed it to Heather, and said flatly,
"Swipe the card."
Everyone froze, their eyes all fixed on that black card, as if their breathing had stopped.
The store instantly fell silent. The mocking and gossiping voices from moments ago vanished completely, leaving only the faint sound of people gasping.
The contempt on Zoe's face instantly froze. Her eyes widened, staring at the black card in James's hand, muttering to herself.
"That can't be, right? That card—isn't that the legendary black card that only top-tier wealthy people can have? How could he have one?"
She instinctively shook her head, unable to believe her eyes.
After all, in her mind, James was just a poor guy wearing cheap clothes who couldn't even afford a decent car.
Yasmin was even more shocked, stumbling back a step.
She stared at the black card, her voice trembling.
"It's fake! It must be fake! James, stop pretending! You're just a failure abandoned by the Anderson family. How could you possibly have a black card?
That card must be counterfeit. You're trying to fool everyone here, aren't you?"
The other salespeople came to their senses too, some echoing Yasmin's words with disdain.
"Right! It must be fake! That card is obviously counterfeit. How could he be a real wealthy person?
Heather, don't be fooled by him. When the card gets declined, you'll be the one embarrassed."
Others mocked Heather coldly.
"I told you you were stupid, getting played by a con artist.
When the card doesn't go through, let's see how Conrad deals with you! Not only will you lose your commission, you'll probably get fired too. You're asking for trouble."
Facing everyone's doubts and mockery, Heather remained unusually calm, not wavering at all.
She just looked at James gratefully, quickly took the black card, and said respectfully,
"Yes, Mr. Anderson. I'll get the card reader right away."
Soon, she returned with the card reader.
She carefully inserted the black card into the machine, her fingers trembling slightly.
A crisp notification sound rang out, and the screen displayed "Transaction Successful."
Then, an announcement came through the store's speakers.
That announcement exploded like thunder in the store.
Everyone was completely stunned, their expressions shifting from shock to doubt, then to disbelief.
Finally, only shame and panic remained on their faces.
Zoe's legs went weak and she nearly collapsed, all color draining from her face as she kept repeating,
"How is this possible? How could the transaction go through?"
