Chapter 251 A Bad Idea

Chapter 251 A Bad Idea

Charlotte was completely speechless.

How had she ended up with such a childish man?

"I'm not running."

"I really do have a plan. Just let go of me first, and I'll explain everything slowly."

George looked at her suspiciously, his arms still locked tight.

"You're really not going to run?"

"Promise me."

Charlotte rolled her eyes.

Here was a grown man pulling this kind of stunt.

But she was so uncomfortable being held like this, she had no choice but to give in.

"I promise. I won't run."

"Happy now?"

George stared at her for a long moment, confirming she didn't seem to be lying, before reluctantly loosening his grip.

But he still held her wrist tightly, terrified she'd turn around and disappear.

Charlotte sat back down, picked up her water glass and took a sip, then spoke slowly.

"I put a mark on every single one of my sketches."

George froze, not quite following. "A mark? What kind of mark?"

Charlotte's fingertip tapped lightly on the table. "A very subtle mark. It's a hidden pattern I designed myself. Unless you examine the sketches inch by inch, you'd never notice it."

"I wanted to wait until Jennifer released her so-called evidence, then see if she even knows these marks exist."

"If she doesn't know about these basic markers, it proves she never carefully looked at those sketches. She might not even know they're there."

"Then all I have to do is produce the original sketches with the marks, along with the process images and creation timeline. Who copied from whom will be crystal clear."

"She claims she drew those sketches years ago, right? Well, I'd love to see if she can point out where these marks are and what they mean."

"Most importantly, aren't you forgetting something? I 'am' Morgan." Charlotte smiled. "My assistant who manages the account has sales records and payment transfers."

George let out a long breath of relief.

His heart, which had been suspended in anxiety, finally settled back where it belonged.

"So that's it!"

"I knew you were too smart not to have prepared! You already had a backup plan all along!"

He immediately leaned closer, grinning like an idiot.

"I should've known you wouldn't just let Jennifer bully you without any preparation."

He pulled Charlotte's hand to his lips and kissed the back of it.

"It's all my fault. I panicked earlier and came up with that stupid idea. Please don't be mad, okay?"

Charlotte shot him a look and pulled her hand back.

"Next time you dare suggest something like a fake divorce or marrying another woman, you can just go be with Jennifer yourself."

George immediately raised his hand in oath.

"I'll never do it again! I won't say another word about anything like that ever again!"

Meanwhile.

Jennifer walked triumphantly out of the restaurant and got into the sports car waiting at the entrance.

She pulled out her phone and dialed a number with no contact name.

The call was answered after two rings.

"How did it go?"

Jennifer leaned back in her seat, her tone dripping with undisguised smugness. "Don't worry, I already threatened Charlotte."

"I saw her face go pale. She must be scared to death. George wasn't as cocky as before either. I bet he's trying to convince Charlotte to divorce him right now."

The mysterious person frowned, fingers tapping lightly on the desk.

"What conditions did you propose?"

Jennifer curved her lips, touching up her lipstick in the rearview mirror, her voice full of triumphant anticipation. "I told George to divorce Charlotte and marry me."

"Once they're divorced and George marries me, I'll be the legitimate Mrs. Summers. Then that bitch Charlotte will be at my mercy. I can deal with her however I want."

"Once I'm secure as Mrs. Summers, won't the Summers Group be mine for the taking?"

The person on the other end of the line nearly choked.

His vision went dark. He almost passed out right then and there.

Marry her?

He'd gone to such lengths, used so many connections to get Jennifer out of prison, paved the way for her all this time, bought so many media accounts to build momentum.

Such a perfect opportunity to utterly destroy George and Charlotte, and she'd made 'this' pathetic demand?

The mysterious person's temples throbbed with rage, his head pounding, his breathing growing heavier.

"Are you out of your mind?"

His voice was ice-cold, barely containing his fury.

"With such a golden opportunity, you make this ridiculously stupid demand?"

"I really overestimated you."

The smile froze on Jennifer's face.

She hadn't expected this reaction and immediately felt annoyed herself.

"What's wrong with it? Isn't this a good condition? Once I marry George and become Mrs. Summers, we can deal with Charlotte however we want. We'll have all the money we need, won't we?"

"Deal with what?" The mysterious person cut her off impatiently, feeling like even talking to her was a waste of time. "Whatever. Do what you want."

"I'm done managing you. You're on your own."

With that, he hung up directly, not wanting to hear another word from her.

Hearing the busy tone, Jennifer furiously threw her phone onto the passenger seat.

"Who does he think he is!"

"How dare he talk to me like that! Once I become Mrs. Summers, he'll be the first one I deal with! I'll show him what I'm capable of!"

She started the car and sped off, her head full of images of herself in a wedding dress marrying George, completely oblivious to what she'd just missed.

Meanwhile.

The mysterious person sat in his top-floor office, tossing his phone onto the wide desk with a cold laugh.

Jennifer, that idiot, was completely useless.

A perfect opportunity handed to her on a silver platter, and all she could think about was stealing the Mrs. Summers position. Absolutely shortsighted.

But it was fine.

Since she was this useless, he wouldn't count on her anymore.

He'd handle it himself.

He wanted to see if George could dodge this one.

When George lost everything and fell from the clouds into the mud, would he still be able to maintain his current glory?

The mysterious person's fingers tapped lightly on the desk, his eyes frighteningly sinister.

This was just the beginning.

He'd take his time playing with them.

George paid the bill and carefully escorted Charlotte home.

Once home, George sat beside Charlotte and pulled her into his arms.

Thinking about three years ago, when Charlotte suffered from cyberbullying and was forced to flee overseas, enduring pregnancy alone abroad and giving birth to Miranda, suffering so much—his heart seized with panic.

Back then, he'd been useless, unable to protect her, letting her endure all that pain.

He couldn't just do nothing.

"Charlotte, why don't we have David find someone to investigate?"

"Find out how Jennifer got out of prison, and whether someone's backing her."

"Someone who just got out of prison, with no people and no money, couldn't possibly have the capability to push a video to the trending list with public opinion we can't suppress. Someone must be supporting her from behind."

Charlotte leaned against him, playing with the button on his shirt, thinking it over before nodding.

"Alright, let's do what you said."

"If we really do nothing at all, it'll make them suspicious instead, like we're too confident."

"Let David investigate. We might as well see who's behind all this scheming. They've been hiding long enough—time to show their face."
