Chapter 273 Sending Vanessa In
Chapter 273 Sending Vanessa In
While taking the cab, Daisy called Ethan to let him know she might be running late today.
Ethan sounded surprised. "Did something happen?"
Daisy wasn't sure how to explain, so she simply said, "Yeah, something came up."
Ethan hadn't thought much of it initially, but when Daisy arrived at the office, he made a point of checking on her.
After all, Daisy was always punctual and reliable. If it were just a normal school drop-off, she wouldn't have been late.
One look at her told him something was wrong.
Though Daisy was clearly trying to pull herself together, she was completely off her game.
He called her aside. "Why don't you head home and rest?"
"Hm?" Daisy asked. "Why?"
Ethan said, "You're not yourself today. You even mixed up the name of your own project earlier."
Daisy let out a bitter laugh but said nothing.
Ethan asked, "Is this about Vincent?"
Daisy nodded and told him what had happened that morning.
Hearing about Vincent's out-of-character behavior didn't surprise Ethan at all.
He'd seen through Vincent's intentions toward Daisy long ago.
Still, seeing Daisy stand her ground so firmly made him feel genuinely relieved.
He patted her shoulder, his voice carrying a note of encouragement. "Tell you what—I'll give you a few days off and help you find the best lawyer. Focus on going after Vanessa."
As long as Vincent didn't interfere, Vanessa would definitely end up behind bars.
Right now, that was indeed Daisy's top priority. She'd been so shaken earlier that she hadn't been able to process everything, but now her thoughts were clearing.
Seeing Ethan's support, she said, "Thank you, Ethan!"
Worried that Vanessa might destroy evidence, they moved quickly.
Meanwhile, after being kicked out by Vincent, Vanessa had returned to the Drake family home and hadn't left her room all day.
"Vanessa, what's wrong?" Mark and Lindsay were beside themselves with worry.
Vanessa stayed silent in her room.
Mark knocked on the door. "Vanessa, say something!"
Hearing the knocking outside, Vanessa stared blankly ahead until a notification sound made her pick up her phone.
The screen showed a termination notice from Black Group.
He'd given her the most generous severance package, as if their relationship had been that simple—as if she were just another employee.
Nothing else was mentioned.
Their message history still showed yesterday's exchanges. She'd called so many times, sent so many messages, but Vincent hadn't answered a single one.
Her people had told her that Vincent had shown up early this morning at Hart Mansion to pick up Daisy and Luna for school.
But at the kindergarten, for some reason, Daisy had gotten out of the car alone and gone to work by herself.
Vanessa guessed they hadn't gotten back together yet, but she couldn't think of any other options.
If she tried to hurt Daisy again now, she'd be handing Vincent the knife to sever their relationship completely.
But she hated Daisy so much. If it weren't for Daisy, she would have been the one to marry Vincent!
If Daisy hadn't been doing so well after the divorce, how would Vincent have had second thoughts?
And then there was Richard—she hated him too.
When Vincent still had feelings for her, Richard had blocked her at every turn, forcing her to resort to schemes just to make Daisy file for divorce.
And after the divorce? Richard had refused to approve her marriage to Vincent, leaving her helpless as she watched Vincent's heart slip away bit by bit to that woman.
She was smart enough to understand that Vincent had already uncovered all her crimes. Once he remarried Daisy, it would only be a matter of time before Daisy got her hands on that evidence.
The knocking continued outside. "Vanessa, say something! If you don't, we're breaking down this door!"
"That's right, Vanessa! Even if you had a fight with Vincent, it's okay—we won't blame you!"
Hearing this, Vanessa finally moved. She wiped her face, smoothed her hair, cleared her throat a couple times to restore her hoarse voice, and said, "Mom, Dad, don't worry. I just had a fight with Vincent, so I'm in a bad mood."
Hearing her voice, Mark and Lindsay felt a wave of relief, though worry quickly followed.
They wanted to ask more but sensed it wasn't the right time.
Vanessa changed clothes and left the house.
Mark and Lindsay remained relatively optimistic, but only she knew the truth: if Vincent and Daisy remarried, the Drake family would be doomed.
The Drake family's current reputation came entirely from the Black family. That alone might be manageable—Vincent probably wouldn't take that away.
But things between her and Daisy were different. They were mortal enemies.
Even if Vincent didn't actively tell Daisy about her crimes, even if the Drake family moved away now, as long as the couple's relationship grew stronger, Daisy would eventually be able to leverage Vincent's power.
When that happened, destroying the Drake family would be child's play for Daisy.
So she absolutely could not let them get back together.
On the way to the courthouse, Daisy's car was blocked by several vehicles.
She frowned and got out, watching as Tyler emerged from one of the cars with an extremely polite expression. "Mrs. Black, Mr. Black asks that you drop the lawsuit."
"You go back and tell Vincent that since he personally handed me this evidence, he shouldn't expect me to let this go." Daisy laughed coldly.
Tyler had anticipated this response and wasn't surprised.
He was simply carrying out Vincent's orders, so despite the cold reception, his polite smile remained unchanged. "Ma'am, we've known each other for years, so I'll take the liberty of saying this: Mr. Black genuinely wants to remarry you."
He blocked Daisy's path and added, "If you want revenge on Vanessa, you could take your time after remarrying. I can also tell you this—if you remarry Mr. Black, you won't have to sign a prenup this time."
In other words, as long as Daisy returned to Vincent's side, he was willing to give her half of everything he owned.
It was an incredibly generous offer—even Vanessa wouldn't get better terms.
No wonder Vincent felt confident sending just an assistant to stop Daisy and bring her back.
He was banking on his vast resources and gambling that Daisy still loved him somewhat, or would at least swallow her pride for Luna's sake.
After all, Daisy had already put up with so much—what was one more time?
But faced with such generous terms, Daisy's words dripped with sarcasm. "Remarry? So he can keep one woman at home and another on the side? You go back and tell Vincent I'm not that cheap!"
Tyler said, "But Mr. Black was already prepared to cut ties with Vanessa yesterday."
Daisy shook her head with a bitter smile. "I don't believe that. Otherwise he wouldn't be blocking me."
She seemed to suddenly think of something and smiled at Tyler. "Tell Vincent that if he wants to remarry me, he has to let me put Vanessa away."
Tyler picked up his phone. This wasn't a decision he could make.
Daisy was curious to know the answer to this question too.
