What have I done?

What have I done?
(Dean)

While I wait for the DNA test results, I buy my way around Bella's number. I need to reach out, since she wouldn't see me.

Last night, I called her and the moment she heard my voice she ended the call on me.

I tried calling her again, this time I paced across my office, Ethan's gaze transfixed on me. He stopped by a while ago.

First ring, second, up until the sixth one and she still did not pick up, after more attempts the call went to voicemail. Frustrated, I run a hand through my hair, unsure of what to do.

Ethan drags in a sharp breath. "Calm down, Dean. I mean, even I will freak out with those insistent calls, give her time," he says in a calm but firm tone.

I shrug, turning to face him. "I want to Ethan, but I just can't. Sleep has become a stranger to me this past few days, my mind's not at rest, I want to talk to Bella,"

I don't wait, I dial her number again. This time I guess Bella got fed up, because her voice wafted into my ear. "Take a hint, Dean and stop bothering me!" She snaps, her voice dripping with irritation.

Quickly I reply, fearing she'd hang up again. "Bella, Bella please don't hang up on me, this is really important, I'm sorry," I pleaded, my words coming out in a rush.

She goes silent from her end, I pull the phone away from my ear, taking a look to be sure she's still there.

I glance at Ethan and he has a concerned look etched on his face as he watches on.

"You're sorry?" She gives a hollow laugh and quickly her voice turns serious again. "Look, I don't have the time for this and I most definitely do not care, shove whatever you have to say down your throat, I don't want to hear it!" the phone beeps, indicating she ended the call.

I pace around, running my hand through my hair, Bella refusing to talk to me is sure messing with my head, I'm this close to losing my mind.

It bothers me, a whole lot.

I'm just so confused, frustrated and stressed over this, over everything.

Ethan studies my face intently, watching my mix of emotions play out. "She needs time, space even. with everything that has happened, you won't blame her if she's being cautious," Ethan says, his voice gentle.

"I know and I get it, but while I wait for Arthur's feedback, I still feel the need to speak with her,"

To be honest, I'm not sure if this is the right way to go about this, but getting Bella to clear things up makes so much sense. So why not?

Ethan chuckles but there's no real humor in it, more like a tease than a statement. "That's a little weird you know, hearing her out has never been your strong suit,"

I eye him carefully, I know where's he's headed but I don't reply, I'm not even in the right frame of mind to.

Ethan sits up straighter, his voice turns serious, a clear sign that he's done teasing me. He furrows his eyebrows. "Look, I get that you're curious, anyone would be. But Bella can't just outrightly tell you they're yours just because you're uncertain." He says, holding my gaze.

I listen intently, letting his words sink in.

"The DNA test, Dee. You took that big step for a reason right?" He presses. "To clear your doubt, and provide you the answers you're looking for, once Arthur gets back with the result, you'll have your answer, but until then, I'd suggest we wait," he says, his words soothing my nerves.

I take a deep breath, Ethan's words sinking deeper.

He's right, so damn right. I mean, I'm too flustered to think straight right now.

My phone beeps before I could reply to Ethan, I take a look, it's a text from Arthur.

Arthur: I have the results, boss. I'm on my way to your office.

I roll my eyes, my heart ramps as I stare at the message, my tension building up.

I can't help but feel an adrenaline rush, a knot tightens in my stomach, my curiosity piqued.

I've never been this nervous, mainly because this results changes everything.

Ethan notices. "Is that…?" He has his eyebrows raised.

I nod slowly. "Arthur has the results, he's on his way here,"

We waited, every seconds feels like hours, waiting feels like torture.

Ethan tried to cheer me up, bringing up other stuff to shift my mind but it's not working.

I call Humphrey, informing him to let Arthur in once he arrives.

After about thirty minutes or so, I can't really tell, I lost track of time after pinning my eyes on my wrist watch for quite sometime.

A gentle knock comes at the door and in walks Arthur.

He walks up closer, his expression unreadable. He extends his greetings and quickly pulled out an envelope, neatly sealed.

I take it from him, hesitating a little. I look at Ethan and he gives me a reassuring nod.

Without any further delay, I unseal the envelope, my eyes scanning through the white paper, finally my eyes lands at the end of the paper, where I saw the letters boldly written, confirming what I'd suspected.

"There's 99.5% chance that there's a father and child's relationship.

My heart skips, my eyes pinned on the letters, as if reading it over and over again, my emotions all over the place.

I feel a pang of guilt, confusion, regret, all of it wash over me.

Ethan's gaze is on me, expecting me to say something but I don't. My thoughts spirals.

I'm short of words, the confusion, the regret, so many questions gnaws at me.

Impatiently, Ethan reaches out for the paper, taking it from me.

His eyes flickers on it and I watch his face fall, he looks up at me, his expression softening.

I gasp, almost in a whisper. "What have I done?"
