Chapter 161 A Divorced Woman Is Not Worthy of Entering the Thompson Family's Gate
Marigold's gaze fell on Cordelia, looking her up and down with obvious displeasure in her eyes.
"Haven't seen you in years, and Ms. Stone has really grown quite capable."
Her tone was full of mockery.
Both Kenna and Terry looked embarrassed.
Terry quickly patted Marigold's hand, "Mom, didn't you just promise me?"
Marigold snorted coldly and said, "I haven't forgotten."
"I wouldn't dare make things difficult for someone as capable as Ms. Stone."
Cordelia pressed her lips together lightly, standing to the side with a calm expression.
She had been mentally prepared for this, so even though Marigold's attitude toward her was so hostile, she didn't feel hurt at all.
Kenna took a deep breath. Marigold still didn't know about Thomas's situation.
Thomas refused to date other women, and if they didn't keep Cordelia around, once the truth came out, both Thomas and the entire Thompson family would become the laughingstock of Shadowpine.
Whether for the Thompson family or for Thomas, Kenna didn't want to offend Cordelia.
"Cordelia, please sit down. Let's sit and talk."
"Marigold is going through menopause. We won't hold it against her."
Kenna and Marigold's mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship wasn't very good.
Back then, Terry and she were always out running the business and didn't have extra energy to look after Thomas.
Marigold was even less willing to help them out, so they had to send Thomas abroad early.
Astoria was already liberal in its customs, and now Thomas's sexual orientation had become twisted.
Kenna felt that if Marigold had been willing to help them look after Thomas even a little back then, Thomas wouldn't have turned out this way.
Marigold and Ruth, these two sisters, had completely different personalities.
Ruth had devoted almost all her energy and effort to Alaric, so it made perfect sense that Alaric had become a famous entrepreneur in the country.
In contrast, Marigold had never helped them, and now that she was old, she still acted so arrogant.
Kenna had already been irritated by Thomas's situation lately, so although she didn't directly scold Marigold now.
"I think you're the one going through menopause."
"Cordelia was married to Alaric, and now she's involved with Thomas. With Thomas's great qualities, can't he find a woman? Why does he have to find a divorced woman! As long as I'm still breathing, I will never allow her into this family!"
Thomas didn't expect Marigold to speak so harshly. His expression changed suddenly, his tone serious, "Grandma!"
Marigold just snorted coldly and glared at Cordelia.
Thomas caught a moment of stiffness in Cordelia's expression, paused, and quickly tried to explain.
"Cordelia, I'm sorry, I—"
Cordelia smiled faintly, interrupting Thomas with a smile.
"It's fine."
As she spoke, she looked at Marigold with cold eyes and said in a steady voice.
"Marigold might be overthinking. I never intended to marry into your Thompson family."
"I came to see you today purely out of respect for the years Thomas and I have known each other."
Marigold's wrinkled face was stern, her whole presence full of hostility.
"Well, that's convenient. The Thompson family never intended to let you in either."
"But the Thompson family's child absolutely cannot be left outside. Whether it's a boy or a girl, custody should belong to the Thompson family."
"So, Ms. Stone, hand over custody of the child, and the Thompson family will definitely not bother you anymore."
Marigold held her head high arrogantly, looking down at Cordelia.
Cordelia glanced at Marigold indifferently, then turned to Thomas and said.
"Thomas, you handle this. I'm leaving."
After speaking, Cordelia turned and left the Thompson Manor.
Thomas felt terrible about what happened to Cordelia.
What Marigold said was way too much!
He was about to chase after her when Marigold suddenly stood up from her chair, looking at Thomas angrily.
"Thomas, if you dare walk out that door today, I'll bash my head against the wall right here!"
Thomas took a deep breath, frowning tightly, and continued walking toward the door.
Marigold immediately collapsed onto the sofa, crying and making a scene.
"How did that bitch bewitch you? A woman the Hughes family didn't want, and you still want to pick her up."
"You want to make the entire Thompson family the laughingstock of Shadowpine, you want me to never be able to hold my head up in front of my sister again."
"Thomas, you rebellious bastard!"
Seeing Marigold like this, Terry immediately went over to comfort her, "Mom."
He had just started when Kenna angrily interrupted him.
"If you want to die, then go die!"
"Thomas became like this because of you! If you want to die, then die sooner!"
Kenna was really fed up. Thomas's sexual orientation issue had been constantly stressing her out lately.
It was rare that Thomas showed even a hint of feeling toward Cordelia, and they had a child together.
Kenna's first impression of Cordelia was very good.
During this time, Kenna had also quietly looked into Cordelia's reputation.
Few people knew that Cordelia was the second daughter of the Stone family, but many people knew about Dr. Stone at Sunrise Valley Hospital.
Most patients at Sunrise Valley Hospital were people with power and influence.
They were all in the same circle, so with a little effort, Kenna could learn about Cordelia's reputation.
Every patient Cordelia had treated spoke highly of her.
Kenna didn't mind that Cordelia was divorced, nor did she mind that Cordelia's ex-husband was Alaric.
She just wanted Cordelia to turn Thomas into a normal person.
A normal man who liked women.
Terry didn't expect Kenna, who had always been so reasonable, to say such things. He looked at her in shock, and soon his eyes showed reproach.
"Kenna! How can you talk to Mom like that?"
When Marigold heard Kenna's words, she was stunned at first, but seeing that Terry was still on her side, she cried even louder and even struggled to get up from the sofa to bash her head against the wall.
Kenna watched Marigold's tantrum coldly, tears suddenly falling from her eyes.
"If your mom had even half of Aunt Ruth's qualities, Thomas wouldn't have turned out this way!"
Seeing Kenna shift all the blame onto her, Marigold was furious.
"I think Thomas has a mother like you who can't think straight, that's why he turned out this way! You actually support Thomas dating a divorced woman. I bet when Thomas first met Cordelia, you already knew and deliberately helped him hide it from the family."
Kenna looked at Marigold's twisted expression, took a deep breath, and shot back without backing down.
"Whether as a mother-in-law or as a grandmother, you'll never be as good as Aunt Ruth in this lifetime."
