Chapter 160 Cordelia Accompanies Thomas to Meet Marigold
When Hannah met up with Cordelia, Cordelia was still on a video call with Alaric.
After Cordelia hung up the video call, Hannah leaned her head over and said.
"Our hospital pharmacy has never had issues like forgetting to put labels or notes before."
"And this is Mr. Hughes's medicine, the pharmacy must have been extra careful."
Hannah had a bold guess in her mind.
Cordelia had already sent the note message to Alaric and put her phone in her pocket.
"Robert also said there was no label, so maybe there really wasn't one. Besides, Alaric isn't that bored to do something like this."
Hannah softly agreed, then linked arms with Cordelia and headed to the cafeteria.
After lunch, Cordelia returned to her office and took out her phone to check.
After she sent the message to Alaric, he hadn't responded at all.
She had some doubts in her mind, but seeing only her own detailed medication notes in the chat window, a flash of disappointment crossed her eyes. She put away her phone and went to help out in the emergency room.
The emergency room was always busy.
She stayed busy until the end of her shift, and Cordelia forgot about Alaric not replying to her message.
Thomas timed it perfectly and waited at the entrance of Sunrise Valley Hospital for Cordelia.
When Cordelia got off work and came out, she saw Thomas standing by the car and walked over.
Thomas smiled and opened the passenger door for Cordelia.
As Cordelia bent down to get in the car, she saw the gifts prepared in the back seat and raised an eyebrow.
"Did you prepare these for me?"
Thomas nodded and said, "You've already done me such a big favor, I couldn't possibly make you prepare the gifts yourself, could I?"
"These are all prepared according to my parents' preferences. I know them well."
Cordelia smiled lightly and fastened her seatbelt.
"I also prepared a gift for Mrs. Thompson, but I don't know Mr. Thompson's preferences, so I didn't prepare anything for him."
She took out a jewelry box from her bag. It was a pair of diamond studs she had carefully selected, with colors and style that matched Kenna's temperament perfectly.
Thomas got into the driver's seat and saw Cordelia's prepared gift. He politely said, "You shouldn't have spent the money."
"Actually, even if you didn't prepare anything, they wouldn't say anything."
When Thomas said this, a trace of bitterness flashed across his face.
"I came clean to them."
A flash of surprise crossed Cordelia's eyes. "What did Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Thompson say?"
He had asked for her help to hide things from Terry, but now he had confessed. It was clear that during this time, Thomas must have been very conflicted inside.
Thomas rubbed his temples. "They expressed their anger very strongly, then forced me to go on blind dates. This time they lowered their standards - just any woman, regardless of family background or status, as long as she's willing to marry me."
As he spoke, he started the car and put his hands on the steering wheel, revealing part of his arm.
Cordelia clearly saw the marks on his arm and immediately understood how Terry and Kenna had expressed their emotions.
Thomas must have been beaten.
But most parents probably couldn't accept something like this.
Cordelia let out a soft sigh.
"Then why would Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Thompson still want to see me?"
Thomas raised his eyebrows slightly and said quietly, "I told them I wronged you, and if there's any woman I could marry, it would definitely be you."
"Also, my grandmother is critically ill. She's always wanted to meet my girlfriend, so this time, she wants to see you."
Hearing this, Cordelia rubbed her temples, feeling a bit of a headache coming on.
"Your grandmother has never liked me."
When she married Alaric, Marigold had never liked her.
Before even arriving at Thomas's house, Cordelia could already imagine the scene when Marigold saw her. The atmosphere would surely be quite awkward.
"Why don't you find a professional actress instead?"
Seeing Cordelia suddenly backing out, Thomas smiled. "My parents have already met Amber, and they think Amber is my child. They think that's why I wronged you."
"What?" Cordelia looked confused.
"When did this happen?"
Thomas answered quietly, "This morning."
This morning, after Cordelia left, Donald took Amber shopping and ran into Thomas, who was accompanying Terry and Kenna to pick out gifts for Marigold.
Amber was very familiar with Thomas and immediately ran over to hug his leg.
Terry and Kenna were shocked by Amber's behavior. Connecting it to Thomas saying he had wronged Cordelia, they seemed to understand something.
Thomas was also worried that revealing Amber's true background would bring unnecessary trouble to Cordelia, so he just let them misunderstand.
It just so happened that he needed this misunderstanding too.
Cordelia just felt a headache coming on. "This is too big of a misunderstanding."
Thomas thought everything was just right.
"If Alaric knows Amber is 'my child,' he definitely won't be suspicious, and you don't have to worry about custody being taken away. And I can have some peace and quiet for a while."
"If later you want to be with Alaric, I'll help you explain. Won't that work?"
Cordelia paused and looked out the window. Thinking about how being with Alaric would put her back in that state of constant worry about gains and losses, she shook her head.
"He's been entangled with Janet for so many years. I don't want to enter this complicated situation again, so there's no need to explain."
Maybe when she was in Astoria she was a bit unwilling to accept it, but now she was willing to accept defeat.
Those things that were already lost didn't need to be forced.
Hearing this, Thomas's mood also became heavy.
He and Cordelia were the same type of people.
They said they were giving up, but in their hearts they could never truly let go.
After all, how could someone you truly loved be forgotten just like that?
The Thompson Manor.
Thomas had the butler take the gift boxes from the car and send them inside, then brought Cordelia into the house.
In the living room.
Marigold, Terry, and Kenna were sitting on the sofa.
Seeing Cordelia, Kenna got up from the sofa to greet her.
"Cordelia, you're here! Why didn't you bring Amber along?"
Cordelia smiled lightly and replied in a gentle and polite tone, "Thomas picked me up right after work, so I didn't have time to go home and get Amber."
Thomas also chimed in at this moment, "I was worried you'd scare Amber and make her cry, so I didn't have Cordelia bring her."
The smiles on Kenna and Terry's faces froze for a moment as they looked at Marigold sitting on the sofa with an ashen face.
She was already ill and didn't look well, and now with obvious displeasure on her face, her whole person radiated a fierce energy.
Kenna and Terry didn't dare tell Marigold about Thomas liking men. They only mentioned that Thomas and Cordelia had a child together.
