Chapter 138 Alaric Is Not Her Cure
Alaric frowned as he stared at her, his expression darkening slightly.
Cordelia walked straight out the door, brushing past Janet.
Janet's expression shifted when she saw Cordelia leave, and she turned to look at Alaric.
"Alaric, do you want me to explain things to Ms. Stone?"
Alaric's eyes were cold as he glanced at Janet standing in the doorway, a hint of disgust in his expression.
"What are you doing here?"
Janet lowered her head and bit her lip hard.
"Actually, I came because there's something I wanted to ask for your help with, but I didn't expect Ms. Stone to be here, and now she's gotten the wrong idea."
As she spoke, her expression showed a trace of guilt.
Alaric's face was cold as he looked away and said icily, "Leave on your own."
Janet's expression changed slightly.
Over the past three years, she'd had very little contact with Alaric, and she'd tried hard to control herself and not appear in front of him, just to preserve whatever feelings he had left for her.
But she never expected Alaric to be so heartless.
She bit her lip lightly and looked at Alaric carefully.
"Alaric, I don't understand what I did wrong for you to treat me this way."
"Even though we broke up, can't we even be friends?"
Alaric's face was stern. "No."
"Didn't you hear what she just said? A proper ex should be as quiet as if they were dead."
Janet's expression went pale at his words.
She looked up at Alaric and saw how cold and indifferent he looked.
Only then did she realize that Alaric was taking out on her the frustration he'd gotten from Cordelia.
She controlled her emotions and said gently, "My thinking is completely different from Ms. Stone's. I've always felt that two people who loved each other in the past can still get along as friends even after breaking up."
Alaric's face was cold. "So no matter how much you try to copy her, you'll never be able to become her."
Janet's expression froze, and her body trembled slightly.
But Alaric simply ignored her pain, picked up his phone from the table, and called security directly.
Janet couldn't bear such humiliation and ran off crying.
Alaric watched coldly.
Robert had run into Cordelia downstairs earlier and, seeing her leave with an unhappy expression, figured the two must have had a conflict.
Thinking of Alaric's bad temper, Robert didn't dare delay and hurried upstairs.
He had just stepped out of the elevator when he saw Janet running toward him in tears.
He rarely saw Janet cry so hard and couldn't quite figure out what was going on.
When Janet saw him, she quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. Though her face was full of grievance, she still handed Robert the breakfast in her hands, her voice tinged with tears as she said,
"He has a bad stomach, and he drank last night. Some oatmeal porridge in the morning will help settle his stomach."
Robert didn't reach out to take the breakfast she offered, maintaining a polite but distant manner.
"Ms. Martin, you're asking me to deliver something you just failed to give him yourself. Aren't you trying to get me in trouble?"
Janet's hand froze in mid-air.
Robert politely walked past her. "Please take your time leaving, Ms. Martin. I won't see you out."
With that, he headed straight for Alaric's place.
Janet clenched her teeth, her hands balling into tight fists.
Robert had just reached the door when he heard Alaric's sharp voice.
"Replace the entire security team at the entrance immediately."
Robert nodded in agreement. "Alright, I'll arrange it right away."
He had already guessed this outcome the moment he saw Janet appear here.
After leaving Crown Hill Estates, Cordelia went straight back to The Stone Manor.
No sooner had she arrived than Alaric had Robert send over medicine for her sprained ankle.
Once inside, Cordelia walked straight to the sofa and sank into it, hugging a cushion tightly.
Donald came out and saw Cordelia like this but didn't disturb her, just had someone place the medicine Alaric sent to the side.
Amber wasn't used to Cordelia being gone all night.
She had been doodling in the study, but when she saw Cordelia return, she immediately slid down from her chair and ran barefoot toward Cordelia.
"Mommy."
Her voice was soft and sweet.
Cordelia immediately reached out and pulled her close, holding her tight and kissing her cheek. The gloom deep in her heart finally found some healing.
"Did you miss me?"
Amber nodded obediently and nestled in Cordelia's arms.
She seemed to sense the negative emotions coming from Cordelia and gently stroked Cordelia's cheek with her small hand.
Cordelia's heart softened at the gesture, and her eyes reddened slightly.
"I missed Amber so much."
Allegra stood to the side, and seeing Cordelia like this, she knew she'd been hurt.
Cordelia was someone she'd watched grow up, so naturally she understood her well.
"Cordelia."
Allegra wanted to ask, but as soon as she opened her mouth, Cordelia looked up and forced a smile, clearly having adjusted her emotions.
"Allegra, I haven't had breakfast yet."
"I'll go make you some right away." Learning that Cordelia hadn't eaten breakfast, Allegra hurried to the kitchen to prepare something.
After seeing her emotions calm down, Donald sat down on the sofa across from her.
"You stayed at Alaric's place last night?"
Cordelia nodded.
"Yes, I drank too much."
"He just happened to take me back with him."
Donald looked at her quietly for a few seconds. "Did you two have a good talk?"
Cordelia pressed her lips together and forced a smile. "We did. He probably won't bother me anymore."
Alaric was a man with extremely strong pride. After what she'd said today, he probably wouldn't take the initiative to bother her again.
She didn't want to continue being caught in the middle of his complicated feelings with Janet.
Donald saw how Cordelia had been holding back her hurt earlier and sighed, deciding not to press further.
He glanced at Cordelia's ankle and changed the subject.
"How did you sprain your ankle again?"
Cordelia answered casually, "The heels were too high, I wasn't used to them."
"But I already applied medicine last night, so it doesn't hurt much."
Donald nodded and glanced at the medicine Alaric had sent over. "Well, the medicine seems to be working, so you might as well keep using it."
Cordelia raised an eyebrow slightly. For some reason, she felt like Donald had some other meaning behind those words.
She didn't respond to Donald's comment.
Donald had already picked up the medicine, poured some on gauze, and applied it to her foot.
Cordelia looked at the medicine on her foot in silence.
The medicine Alaric sent was good medicine, but Alaric himself was not good medicine for her.
