Chapter 120 She Is Actually the Doormat
After Alaric finished speaking, he walked over to the sofa on the side and sat down.
Hazel was quite unhappy. She stamped her foot lightly and walked over too, sitting down next to Alaric. She crossed her arms and glanced in Cordelia's direction.
"Alaric, you're not refusing to dance with me because of your ex-wife, are you?"
Alaric, sitting on the sofa, glanced at her with his deep eyes carrying a hint of warning.
"Don't talk nonsense."
Hazel snorted softly. Though unhappy, she didn't dare to push further.
She sat quietly beside Alaric, her gaze drifting toward Cordelia from time to time.
After all, she was Alaric's ex-wife, so Hazel couldn't help but pay attention to her.
She crossed her legs, leaned forward slightly, propped her face with her hand, looked toward Cordelia, and muttered softly, "The dress she's wearing tonight isn't as nice as the one we ran into her wearing at the boutique that day."
She paused and turned to look at Alaric.
"Alaric, did she not choose it because you said it wasn't suitable?"
Alaric frowned, glanced at Hazel, and said in a low voice, "If you're bored, you can find someone to dance with."
Hazel pressed her lips together and grinned, "I'm so curious, with such a beautiful ex-wife, why did you divorce her? Is it really like the rumors online say, because of that Janet?"
Because of Julian, Hazel had met Janet a few times.
Compared to Cordelia, Janet's fake confidence and sophistication were nothing.
Hearing Hazel's words, Alaric's face turned cold.
Hazel paused, her eyes showing some surprise.
"Oh my god, did I actually guess right?"
Alaric's expression grew darker.
"Robert."
He called out in a low tone.
Robert was standing not far away. Seeing Alaric suddenly call him, he quickly walked over.
"Mr. Hughes, you called for me?"
Alaric nodded and glanced at Hazel.
"Dance with her."
Robert immediately waved his hands, "Mr. Hughes, you're really putting me in a tough spot."
Hazel was Alaric's date. If he danced with Hazel, what would people at the event think of her?
Hazel didn't seem to care at all. The corners of her lips curved up slightly as she stood up from the sofa.
"Then I'll trouble you, Robert."
Robert was stunned, his expression showing some awkwardness.
Hazel didn't wait for Robert to invite her. She raised her hand first.
Seeing this, Robert couldn't refuse. He extended his hand.
Hazel's soft hand settled into his palm, and Robert immediately became nervous.
After the two moved away from Alaric, Robert said softly, "Ms. Morrison, you shouldn't have agreed to Mr. Hughes."
Hazel smiled slightly, spun around, and remained calm.
"If I didn't agree, would I have to sit there all night? I can't stand that."
As she spoke, she glanced at Alaric, then asked in a low voice.
"Ms. Stone's child isn't Alaric's, right?"
Seeing Hazel ask curiously, Robert didn't know how to answer for a moment.
Seeing he didn't answer, Hazel let out a soft sigh.
"I'm not ready to be a stepmother yet."
Her voice sounded troubled.
Hearing this, Robert smiled awkwardly and reminded her quietly, "Ms. Morrison, Mr. Hughes doesn't seem to have said he wants to marry you."
Now it was Hazel's turn to feel awkward.
Her expression showed some distress, "True."
"But I still need to be mentally prepared, just in case he agrees to marry me someday, right?"
Alaric was the best business marriage partner in the country.
Hazel grew up in a complicated family environment, so she didn't really care much about men having a mistress or two on the side.
When she was very young, her father had taken her to meet various mistresses.
None of her uncles were faithful either.
So in Hazel's view, men were all the same.
Over the past two years, she had met countless blind dates, including many who were rich and handsome.
But someone like Alaric, who was both rich and handsome, was rare.
After she and Alaric met, they rarely kept in touch.
But recently, Alaric called saying he wanted to take her to meet Ruth, and Hazel agreed.
She didn't expect that she wouldn't meet Ruth, but Alaric ended up in the hospital first.
When she introduced herself as Alaric's fiancée in front of Cordelia earlier, she wanted to see how Alaric and Cordelia would react.
If there was any lingering connection between them, Hazel was thinking she should pick a new husband for herself.
After all, dealing with ex-wives and children was just too troublesome.
Even more troublesome than her father's illegitimate children.
The Stone family wasn't easy to deal with, especially Evelyn, that calculating and capable woman. Hazel felt intimidated just making eye contact with her.
But letting go of Alaric like this felt really unwilling.
After all, Alaric was capable and rich. If she married him, her material life would definitely be more stable than now.
Plus, he had the means to help her handle the complicated matters of the Morrison family. Such a good doormat was hard to find anywhere else.
Hazel sighed softly.
Robert frowned slightly and reminded her quietly.
"Ms. Morrison, you stepped on my foot."
He should be the one sighing!
Throughout the dance, Hazel had stepped on his feet countless times.
Hazel was stunned, feeling a bit embarrassed, and laughed.
"Sorry about that."
"I don't dance much."
The music ended.
Hazel pulled her hand back from Robert's.
Robert was finally free.
Hazel was a bit tired. The heels she wore tonight were quite high. Just as she was about to go back to sit and rest beside Alaric, he walked over directly, grabbed her hand, and headed toward the center of the dance floor.
"Alaric, I need to rest for a bit."
Hazel's face showed resistance. Her heels hurt a bit, and she just wanted to sit down and rest.
Alaric remained expressionless and replied coldly.
"I'll buy you a limited edition bag tomorrow."
Hazel frowned. Did he think he could just buy her off with one bag?
"Do you want it or not?" Alaric's tone was cold.
Hazel quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, yes."
The Morrison family's market hadn't been doing well this year. She hadn't bought a limited edition bag in a long time. Now that someone was offering to give her one, why would she refuse?
Hazel followed Alaric into the dance floor. While dancing, she noticed Alaric was deliberately leading her in another direction.
Her eyes showed some confusion. Just as she was about to ask, she suddenly saw that the couple dancing beside them was Cordelia and Carl.
She raised an eyebrow, suddenly understanding everything.
So she was the doormat after all.
