Chapter 119: Alaric Invites Amber to the Opening Dance

Chapter 119 Alaric Invites Amber to the Opening Dance

Cordelia wore a simple-colored dress, low-key yet elegant.

She stood quietly to one side, with no intention of walking toward Alaric.

Everyone also noticed Amber, who was holding Cordelia's hand.

She wore a red little dress with a small crown on her head, clearly styled with care.

Her face was ninety percent similar to Cordelia's, which surprised everyone.

Could this be Cordelia's child?

Everyone exchanged glances, their eyes filled with curiosity.

But their expressions were confused, clearly unsure what was going on.

They had heard bits and pieces about the past troubles between Cordelia and Alaric, and had thought that after Cordelia returned to the country, she and Alaric would very likely remarry. Now it seemed there was probably no chance of that.

Amber's little hand gripped Cordelia's fingers.

Evelyn smiled and waved at them.

Amber obediently waved back at Evelyn.

People whispered among themselves.

Cordelia's expression remained calm. Suddenly, Amber let go of her hand and ran toward Alaric on her short little legs.

Cordelia froze for a moment and instinctively reached out to pull Amber back.

But Amber ran too fast, and Cordelia's outstretched hand missed her.

Donald watched Amber's cheerful manner and smiled.

"When Alaric came to the house that day, he asked Amber to dance the opening dance with him."

Cordelia raised an eyebrow.

She hadn't known about this.

No wonder Amber had been seriously practicing her dance steps before bed last night.

Her feelings were complicated as she watched Amber run up to Alaric.

The whispered conversations around them also quieted down.

Everyone turned their attention to Alaric and Amber.

Amber stood in front of Alaric.

Alaric bent down gracefully and made an inviting gesture.

Amber placed her hand in Alaric's palm.

Seeing this scene, everyone felt it was especially heartwarming.

The gentle expression on Alaric's face seemed like it could melt into water.

The music started, and everyone quieted down.

The height difference between Alaric and Amber was too great, so Alaric simply bent down and picked Amber up. He held Amber with one hand and held her little hand in his other hand, dancing in the center of the dance floor.

Cordelia stood quietly to the side watching, her jewel-like eyes showing some complicated emotions.

Bruce invited Evelyn to join the dance floor, and soon more people filled the center.

Cordelia found a seat and sat down, waiting for Amber and Alaric to finish dancing.

When she took her seat, she didn't notice that Julian was also sitting in the corner.

Julian saw Cordelia sit down across from him and chuckled softly.

"No one invited Ms. Stone to dance?"

Hearing Julian's voice, Cordelia immediately felt uncomfortable.

She instinctively looked around.

Wherever Julian appeared, Janet was bound to be there too.

Julian seemed to understand Cordelia's intention and said with a smile, "Don't worry, Janet didn't come today."

Cordelia's expression was calm. "Didn't come, or wasn't invited?"

Julian raised an eyebrow, his gaze fixed on Cordelia's delicate, beautiful face.

"For this kind of party, she certainly doesn't have the qualifications to be invited."

Cordelia frowned and looked away from Julian.

Julian liked Janet so much, yet his words showed some contempt for her.

She really disliked this kind of character.

She didn't want to continue talking with him and stood up to leave.

Julian also stood up at this moment and looked at Cordelia.

"Ms. Stone, may I invite you to dance?"

As he spoke, he extended his hand toward Cordelia.

Cordelia just glanced at him lightly and looked away. "No need, I don't know how to dance."

After saying this, she walked away.

Alaric had already finished over there. He was holding Amber at the dessert area eating sweets.

Cordelia walked over.

Alaric's female companion also returned to the party. When she saw Alaric holding a child, and a very cute one at that, she came over.

"Alaric, whose child is this?"

Alaric's expression was calm. "The Stone family's."

The woman was stunned for a few seconds. When she walked over just now and saw Alaric holding a child, she thought she was seeing things.

Then when Alaric turned around, she confirmed it was him.

She had never seen Alaric be so gentle with any child before.

"I didn't expect you to like children so much. When we get married later, we should definitely have a daughter as cute as this."

Cordelia heard these words as she approached.

Her eyes dimmed slightly as she walked over, stopped, and said, "Amber, come to me."

Amber had just eaten a small cake. Hearing Cordelia's voice, she immediately stretched out her little arms toward Cordelia.

Cordelia naturally reached out and took Amber into her arms.

Alaric also let go.

As Cordelia got closer, the faint fragrance from her body entered his nostrils.

His heart stirred, and he couldn't help but look at Cordelia a few more times.

"Hello, Ms. Stone. I'm Hazel Morrison. When we ran into each other at the brand store last time, I didn't get a chance to say hello."

"I'm Alaric's fiancée. Nice to meet you."

Hazel smiled and extended her hand toward Cordelia.

Cordelia put Amber down, reached out and briefly shook Hazel's hand, her expression calm. "Hello, I'm Cordelia."

Her voice was very calm, revealing no emotion.

Amber had promised to dance with Donald, so after Cordelia put her down, she ran toward Donald.

Cordelia also happened to find an excuse to leave.

"I'm sorry, I still need to look after Amber. Please excuse me."

Hazel nodded lightly and watched Cordelia leave.

After Cordelia left, Alaric glanced at her coolly. "When did you become my fiancée?"

Hazel raised an eyebrow, a smile on her lips.

"Well, I will be sooner or later anyway."

As she spoke, she looked at Alaric and asked, "Who did you invite to dance the opening dance?"

She had accidentally bumped into a waiter earlier, so the dress she wore had gotten dirty.

Fortunately, Evelyn had prepared quite thoroughly and had replacement dresses available, but she had missed the opening dance with Alaric because of this.

Hazel felt very disappointed and was curious about who Alaric would invite to dance the opening dance.

Would it be his ex-wife?

Thinking this, Hazel looked at Cordelia.

But Cordelia's attitude toward Alaric seemed very cold. Even if Alaric invited her, she probably wouldn't agree.

Alaric didn't answer her question.

Hazel didn't continue asking either. With a bright smile, she took Alaric's arm and said, "Alaric, even though I missed the opening dance, you still have to dance with me tonight. Otherwise, wouldn't all my careful preparation be wasted?"

Alaric watched Cordelia's retreating figure, his expression darkening slightly.

"Don't want to dance. Go find someone else."
