Chapter 61 Cordelia Becomes That Scheming Person
Cordelia hadn't seen Dominic in a while. When she spotted him now, she gave a polite smile and walked over.
She knew she'd be living in Astoria for a bit, and in that unfamiliar place, she'd probably need his help often.
"Hey! What brings you here?" she asked, stopping beside him.
Dominic looked at her with a warm smile, clearly in a good mood. "Just visiting a friend," he replied gently.
Cordelia nodded, still smiling. "I should head upstairs to work."
Dominic nodded back.
He had just seen Cordelia getting out of Alaric's car, which made him a bit anxious.
Were Cordelia and Alaric getting close again?
As she walked past him, he quickly called out, "Cordelia."
She stopped and glanced at him. "Is there something else?"
Her gentle gaze made Dominic's heart race a little.
"Have you finalized your trip to Astoria?"
Cordelia nodded lightly. "Yeah, it's set. I'm leaving next month."
Seeing the determination in her clear, beautiful eyes, Dominic felt a sense of relief and smiled. "Good. Go on, get to work."
Cordelia acknowledged him and stepped into the hospital.
Dominic's smile grew wider. He had been worried that Cordelia and Alaric's relationship might have improved, making her reconsider her move to Astoria. But now he had Cordelia's answer.
Dominic's restless heart finally felt at ease.
Everett parked his car and noticed someone talking to Cordelia at the hospital entrance. The guy had a gentlemanly demeanor—definitely one of Cordelia's suitors.
Everett watched as the man left in a top-tier sports car, his expression immediately darkening. For the wealthy, million‑dollar cars were as commonplace as coffee cups.
He had been confident about winning Cordelia over, but seeing the high-quality suitors around her now, his self-esteem took a hit. Still, he believed that sincerity was the ultimate weapon. Back in school, he had never failed to win over a girl!
Everett got out of the car and hurried into the hospital. Luckily, Cordelia was still waiting for the elevator.
He quickly ran over and stood beside her, catching his breath.
Cordelia looked down at Everett, her gaze cooling a bit.
Everett had expected Cordelia to ask why he was running so fast. But she merely glanced at him briefly before looking away, quietly waiting for the elevator.
Everett didn't even get a chance to use his prepared lines.
Seeing his gaze fixed on her, Cordelia frowned slightly. Just as she was about to speak, Everett said, "I thought I saw Dr. Stone coming in while I was parking, so I rushed to see if it was you. And it was."
He spoke with a shy smile, looking like the kind of well-behaved guy girls liked.
Cordelia remained expressionless, not even glancing at him. "As a doctor, the most important thing is to stay calm. How can you face patients if you're always in a rush?"
Everett paused, then quickly added, "I'm usually calm, but for some reason, I can't stay calm when I see Dr. Stone."
His clear gaze was earnest and direct.
If she hadn't overheard his conversation yesterday, she might have been moved by his excellent acting now.
Cordelia quietly looked at him for a few seconds as the elevator doors opened.
She smiled and stepped inside.
Everett was stunned by her smile and quickly followed her into the elevator.
Reaching the department floor, Cordelia stepped out of the elevator, and Everett followed, looking loyal.
Cordelia stopped and glanced at him. "By the way, Joe needs to see you in his office."
Everett paused, then nodded quickly. "What does Joe need?"
Cordelia smiled mysteriously. "You'll find out when you get there."
Everett's mind raced with possibilities.
Maybe Cordelia had recommended him to Joe!
He was still an intern, and if Cordelia helped him secure a position at Sunrise Valley Hospital, his future would be bright.
He couldn't believe that even before seriously pursuing her, she was already paving the way for him. If he won her over, with Cordelia's connection to the Hughes family, he could easily climb the ranks.
After all, everyone said Sunrise Valley Hospital would belong to Cordelia in the future.
Seeing Everett's barely contained joy, Cordelia smirked coldly and walked into her office.
Everett eagerly went to Joe's office, only to receive a termination notice.
The Sunrise Valley Hospital board was letting him go.
Everett's smiling face instantly fell, his expression freezing.
"Mr. Watson, what does this mean?"
Joe looked at Everett coldly from his desk. "You know who you've offended."
"Pack your things and clear out your locker. Your school will send a new intern this afternoon."
Last night, the hospital director, Jake Sherman, had called Joe, saying an intern had offended Alaric and had conduct issues. The higher-ups wanted him gone.
Jake had even scolded Joe, saying he was too hasty and that choosing someone with poor character could negatively impact the hospital.
If Joe hadn't been unable to reach Everett last night, he wouldn't have wanted to see him at all this morning.
Everett had no idea who he had offended, but remembering that Cordelia had sent him to Joe, he gritted his teeth and stormed towards Cordelia's office.
"Dr. Stone."
"What is the meaning of this?"
"Why am I being terminated? What did I do wrong?"
Cordelia was discussing a patient's case with Hannah when Everett burst in.
Cordelia had been cold towards him yesterday, but he hadn't noticed, thinking she was just in a bad mood.
Hannah's face turned cold seeing Everett's angry outburst.
"Everett, what are you doing?"
Everett gritted his teeth. "Dr. Stone, I've never been negligent in my work. Why am I being terminated? I demand an explanation!"
Cordelia calmly looked at Everett. "I didn't terminate you."
Hannah, recalling Alaric's visit yesterday and guessing he had seen Everett bothering Cordelia, was now displeased with him.
"You have a bad attitude. Isn't your termination justified? Why are you causing a scene here?"
Everett gritted his teeth, feeling a surge of resentment.
A bad attitude?
He would make Cordelia the one with a bad attitude!
