Chapter 60 Not Her Type?
"I almost forgot Dr. Stone comes from a rich family."
He looked a bit embarrassed as he put his car keys away.
Cordelia stayed composed, her eyes shifting away from him. "You seem to know a lot," she said calmly.
Everett paused, feeling a bit guilty as he glanced at her.
Seeing Cordelia's calm expression, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Just overheard it from some classmates talking," he said as the elevator doors opened.
Cordelia stepped into the elevator, with Everett following close behind.
He glanced at the handbag she was carrying and offered, "Dr. Stone, let me carry that for you."
Cordelia looked at his outstretched hand and shook her head. "No, thank you."
Her voice was calm, but the resistance in her eyes was clear.
Everett felt an unspoken pressure from her gaze, swallowed hard, and fell silent, not daring to make any other moves.
When the elevator reached the first floor, Cordelia walked out.
Everett followed.
Just yesterday, Cordelia had been so gentle with him, and she was nice to him this morning too. Why did she suddenly change in the afternoon?
Everett sighed, still unwilling to give up.
Alaric's car was parked outside the hospital. Seeing his car, Cordelia walked straight over, opened the passenger door, and got in.
Everett's expression stiffened when he saw that the car picking up Cordelia was a multi-million-dollar luxury vehicle.
Alaric noticed Cordelia taking the passenger seat so willingly this time. He raised an eyebrow and then glanced at Everett standing at the hospital entrance, his gaze darkening.
"What, not your type?" he said with a hint of amusement in his tone.
Cordelia turned to Alaric beside her, feeling uncomfortable with his teasing tone.
"What, is he your type?" she retorted sharply.
Alaric's face immediately turned cold.
Cordelia pressed her lips together, feeling a bit better.
In the past, she would have just laughed off Alaric's comments. But lately, her temper had been growing, perhaps due to her pregnancy.
Seeing that she was in a bad mood, Alaric didn't say anything more and started the car, heading to The Stone Manor.
Back home.
Cordelia was the first to step into the living room. As soon as she reached the door, she saw Ruth sitting on the couch in The Stone Manor's living room. Ruth smiled kindly when she saw Cordelia.
"Cordelia, you're back?"
Cordelia nodded and walked over to sit next to Ruth. She wasn't too surprised to see Ruth at The Stone Manor.
"How have you been feeling these past few days? Have you been taking your medicine on time?"
Ruth beamed, "Much better. You remind Clifford to tell me to take my meds every day. How could I not listen to you?"
As Ruth finished speaking, she saw Alaric walk in from outside.
Her eyes held a hint of disdain, seemingly mocking Alaric for shamelessly staying at The Stone Manor.
When their marriage was stable, getting him to accompany Cordelia to The Stone Manor was like pulling teeth. Now that Cordelia didn't want him anymore, he was eagerly staying at The Stone Manor.
What a shameless man.
Alaric remained calm under Ruth's disdainful gaze, as if he didn't notice, and sat down on another couch.
Donald, seeing the good relationship between Cordelia and Ruth, couldn't help but smile contentedly.
Evelyn came back to The Stone Manor after work.
The Stone Manor hadn't been this lively in a long time, and Donald's smile never faded.
After dinner, Ruth bid farewell.
Before leaving, she reminded Alaric that Donald's birthday was coming up in a few days, and as his son-in-law, he should act like one.
Alaric nodded seriously. If Ruth hadn't reminded him, he wouldn't have known about Donald's birthday at all.
Reflecting on their three years of marriage, he realized he had never celebrated Donald's birthday with Cordelia.
Cordelia never complained about it.
After seeing Ruth off, Alaric returned inside and saw Cordelia happily discussing birthday plans with Donald.
Her smile was radiant and beautiful.
Alaric's heart raced.
The next day.
They continued to put on a show in front of Donald, as if their marriage had never hit any bumps.
After leaving The Stone Manor, Cordelia couldn't help but speak up while sitting in Alaric's car.
"Mr. Hughes, maybe you should find an excuse to go on a business trip and move out of The Stone Manor."
She was tired of pretending every day.
Maybe after Alaric moved out, she could hint to Donald about the state of their marriage.
Alaric didn't answer her immediately.
Thinking he hadn't heard, she was about to speak again when Alaric's deep voice sounded.
"I don't have any business trips planned."
Cordelia was speechless.
Was it really that hard to find an excuse?
She sighed, looking seriously at Alaric, hesitating for a moment before asking.
"Mr. Hughes, do you not want a divorce?"
Alaric's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his eyes fixed ahead as he asked nonchalantly.
"What if I say I don't want a divorce? Will you stay?"
Cordelia shook her head.
"No, I still want a divorce."
She had chosen to marry Alaric because he had broken up with Janet.
She didn't mind that Alaric and Janet had a past.
After all, many men had first loves.
She had been confident that "love grew over time" would apply to their marriage.
But she was too naive.
She couldn't come between Alaric and Janet's feelings.
Even after three years of trying, as soon as Janet returned, she effortlessly took her place beside him.
She didn't envy Janet for being Alaric's first love, but she was jealous of Alaric's favoritism towards Janet.
Hearing Cordelia's response, Alaric suddenly slammed on the brakes.
Cordelia lurched forward from the inertia, looking confusedly at Alaric.
His handsome face had returned to its usual calm, as if his earlier outburst had never happened.
He quickly stepped on the gas again, driving towards the hospital.
The atmosphere between them dropped to freezing point once more.
When Cordelia got out of the car, Alaric grabbed her hand.
She stopped and turned to look at him.
Alaric gazed deeply at her, then glanced at a figure standing at the hospital entrance, frowning before finally letting go of her hand and saying coldly.
"I'm not coming back to The Stone Manor tonight. Make up an excuse for your dad. I'll back you up."
With that, he stepped on the gas and drove off.
Cordelia stood there, watching his car disappear from view, then heard a familiar male voice behind her.
"Cordelia."
Raising an eyebrow, she turned to see Dominic waiting for her a short distance away.
