Chapter 323 Absolutely Will Not Issue a Letter of Understanding
Evelyn adjusted her posture slightly before turning to look at Cordelia.
"Why aren't you resting in your room?"
At the sound of her voice, Cordelia snapped out of the visual shock from earlier and quickly said,
"I was worried about you, so I came out to check."
Evelyn tidied up her hair, which had been tousled by the sea breeze, and said leisurely,
"What's there to worry about me?"
"You should worry about yourself first. How could you do something so dangerous?"
Hearing this, Cordelia bit her lip lightly, her eyes showing a hint of shame.
When she heard that Fiona's anonymous report was clearly deliberate framing and entrapment, her first instinct was to stop it, which led to her actions.
She never imagined that Fiona had lost her child and wanted revenge on them.
Seeing her guilty expression, Evelyn's previously stern and cold eyes softened slightly, but she still gave a few solemn warnings.
"If we hadn't been here today, you would have died in this Sunrise City."
"Getting yourself into trouble because you weren't careful about who you befriended—remember this lesson."
At this moment, Cordelia couldn't lift her head under Evelyn's scolding.
Alaric couldn't bear to see Cordelia wronged. He reached out to pull her to his side protectively and said in a low voice,
"It's not really her fault."
Evelyn snorted softly and said leisurely,
"Then it's Mr. Hughes's fault?"
Alaric's expression remained calm, and he readily admitted it.
"I didn't arrange things properly. It is indeed my fault."
Hearing this, Cordelia couldn't help but look up at the man standing beside her.
Evelyn glanced at him coldly. With Gabriel present, she didn't continue the topic. She just looked at Cordelia, her tone softening a bit.
"Go back to the yacht cabin and rest. Everything over there has been handled."
Hearing this, Cordelia glanced toward the other yacht.
That yacht had deliberately kept its distance from them. Cordelia knew that everyone on this boat was either rich or powerful, and they absolutely couldn't get involved with the people on that other yacht.
She was somewhat worried about Hannah, but since Evelyn was still angry, she didn't dare ask.
"Harry hasn't been drinking. He's there, and he won't let anything happen to his cousin."
Seeing her concern, Evelyn said this lightly.
Only then did Cordelia breathe a slight sigh of relief and obediently follow her sister's arrangement.
Watching Cordelia return to the cabin, Evelyn turned to look at Gabriel standing beside her and said in a low voice,
"Mr. Harris, I'm sorry for the trouble tonight."
Earlier, Gabriel had gone with her to Harry's yacht, which took up quite a bit of time.
The people in the yacht's lounge were all high‑status figures in Shadowpine. Gabriel was hosting today, and she had delayed him for so long that Evelyn felt somewhat apologetic.
Gabriel still wore a smile, looking at Evelyn with gentlemanly courtesy.
"Is your foot okay?"
Hearing his words, Evelyn was puzzled at first, then shook her head.
"It's fine."
When the waves suddenly rose earlier, and she was wearing high heels, Gabriel probably thought she had twisted her ankle.
Hearing this, Gabriel nodded gently and said with a smile,
"Ms. Stone is the first woman I've ever seen jump off a boat in high heels."
When Evelyn looked up, her gaze met Gabriel's smiling eyes behind his glasses.
The man's eyes held a smile, not hiding his interest in her not hidden at all.
Her heart tightened, and she responded lightly,
"I've made a fool of myself in front of Mr. Harris."
Gabriel chuckled softly. His gaze swept over Evelyn before looking toward Harry's yacht.
The police and the sea rescue had arrived. The sound of urgent sirens broke the calm surface of the sea.
Gabriel watched for a few moments, then withdrew his gaze and turned to Evelyn.
"We're heading back too. Let's return to the lounge."
Evelyn nodded and followed Gabriel back into the lounge.
Although everyone was curious about what had happened outside, since neither Gabriel nor Evelyn mentioned it, no one dared to ask.
Moreover, both Gabriel and Evelyn maintained their composure, showing no signs of distress or dishevelment—clearly, they had easily resolved the unexpected situation.
Everyone had come today for the economic exchange meeting between Luminar and Shadowpinethat would take place in a few days. So, after Gabriel got to the main topic, everyone put aside their curiosity about the earlier incident.
The sirens outside didn't affect them at all.
In the room.
Cordelia had fallen into the water earlier, and after barely sleeping the entire night before, her body was now severely fatigued.
Alaric was drying her still-damp hair. Seeing her yawning continuously, looking like she really wanted to sleep, he said gently,
"Lean on me and sleep for a bit. I'll wake you when we arrive."
As Alaric spoke, he arranged her hair and had her rest on his lap, with her hair naturally falling to one side for easy drying.
Just as Cordelia closed her eyes, sirens sounded. She suddenly opened her eyes and looked at Alaric nervously.
Seeing her slightly anxious look, Alaric gently covered her eyes with his hand.
"Don't worry, everything has been handled."
Alaric's words were gentle, his tone low and steady. Cordelia immediately felt much more secure.
After all, Harry and Hannah had met Herschel, Fiona, and the others through her.
If their futures were really affected because of Fiona, she would be the biggest sinner.
Cordelia suddenly felt much less sleepy.
She lay quietly on Alaric's lap, feeling somewhat panicked.
Alaric's movements as he dried her hair were very gentle. Noticing she had no intention of sleeping, he said in a low voice,
"Robert has already stopped those media people at the dock and deliberately leaked some information. Harry is very sober and has barely had any alcohol—even if they test him, they won't find any problems."
"The Murphy family will probably try everything they can to get you to plead for them during this time."
Hearing this, Cordelia frowned and fell silent.
Fiona's miscarriage had nothing to do with them. She didn't dare take revenge on Jade or confront Dominic, but wanted to drag them down with her.
Fiona had redirected her anger and revenge toward other innocent people, trying to ruin everyone's future.
With such a malicious mindset, Cordelia could never issue a letter of forgiveness.
If Fiona had succeeded today, the Stone Group would likely have been affected too.
Her sister had worked so hard to protect the Stone Group—it couldn't be affected because of her.
Cordelia took a deep breath, opened her eyes to look at Alaric, and said seriously,
"No matter who comes to beg me, I won't issue a letter of forgiveness."
Alaric smoothed her hair and said in a low voice,
"Even if you issued a letter of forgiveness, Ms. Evelyn Stone wouldn't let it fall into the Murphy family's hands."
"Neither would I."
