Chapter 157 What Else Can He Do? He Can Only Pamper Her.
Donald rarely spoke to Alaric in such a serious tone.
Alaric's eyes darkened slightly, then he said in a low voice.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Stone. I didn't think this through."
Seeing Alaric lower his tone, Donald frowned slightly, let out a soft sigh, and said.
"I wish you success with your project. Take care of yourself."
Alaric responded with a sound of acknowledgment.
"I won't take up any more of your time then. Have a safe trip."
Donald hung up right after saying that.
Alaric's hand tightened slightly around his phone, then he put it away.
Robert stood to the side, seeing the gloomy look on Alaric's face. He didn't dare make a sound, just wanting to reduce his presence.
Sunrise Valley Hospital couldn't reach Cordelia, but Alaric was about to board his flight. With no other choice, the hospital had to arrange a different doctor to accompany Alaric.
Joe personally brought the person to the airport.
When Alaric saw who Joe brought, his eyes turned cold.
Robert immediately understood what Alaric meant and walked over to Joe to intercept.
"Joe, Mr. Hughes no longer needs an accompanying doctor."
Joe was about to say something, but seeing Alaric's gloomy, cold face, he immediately swallowed his words, nodded, and apologized quietly.
"This is my oversight. I hope Robert can put in a good word for me with Mr. Hughes."
Robert nodded.
Joe secretly breathed a sigh of relief and left with the doctor.
Janet timed her arrival at the airport perfectly.
When she saw Joe at the airport, her expression changed slightly, so she immediately quickened her pace and entered the airport.
In the VIP lounge, Janet saw Alaric sitting on the sofa.
Only Robert and Alaric were sitting in that row of seats.
Alaric sat on the sofa with a stern face, looking difficult to approach, so people around instinctively kept their distance from him.
Janet took a deep breath, tidied up her appearance a bit, and walked over to sit in the empty seat next to Alaric.
With a smile on her face, she took the initiative to greet Alaric.
"Alaric. What a coincidence, are you also going to Silverlake Springs today?"
Alaric showed no expression, glanced at her sideways, and didn't answer.
Robert also looked at Janet, his expression somewhat complicated.
"How did Ms. Martin know we were going to Silverlake Springs?"
Janet paused, not knowing how to answer for a moment.
She pressed her lips together, smiled awkwardly, and said quietly, "Aren't you going to Silverlake Springs?"
Robert didn't respond further.
Alaric also kept a cold face and didn't answer.
Janet bit her lip lightly.
For the past three years, Alaric had always treated her this way, barely acknowledging her.
Although she was used to it by now, she still couldn't help feeling disappointed inside.
She controlled the unwillingness deep in her heart, quieted down, and waited to board.
Boarding time arrived.
Alaric and Robert got up and left first.
Seeing this, Janet followed closely behind.
Robert saw Janet following every step and couldn't help but admire her strong will.
If it were any other woman being treated so coldly by Alaric, she would have probably left long ago.
But Janet not only showed no signs of leaving over the years, she seemed to get more determined with each setback.
The Stone Manor.
Cordelia slept until she woke up naturally.
The first thing she did when she opened her eyes was check her phone.
For once she had put it on silent, and there were over ten missed calls on her phone.
Some were from Robert, some from Joe, and there were also calls from Alaric.
Thinking of the image of Alaric waiting for her impatiently at the airport with a cold face, Cordelia couldn't help but smile slightly.
He was going to Silverlake Springs with Janet, yet he still wanted to bring her along. She didn't know what Alaric was thinking.
Did he think she would pretend to be generous like Janet?
She snorted softly, put away her phone, and got up to wash up in the bathroom.
It was only eight o'clock now. Her work time today was nine o'clock, and without Alaric at the hospital, she would be much more relaxed.
After getting ready, she went downstairs.
Donald and Amber had already finished breakfast. When Allegra saw her come down, she brought the prepared breakfast to the dining table for her.
"This morning I heard Mr. Hughes call Mr. Stone."
Hearing this, Cordelia raised her eyebrows slightly, not expecting Alaric to have called Donald's phone.
"What did they say?"
Cordelia asked casually.
Allegra said quietly, "I rarely hear Mr. Stone speak to Mr. Hughes in such a stern tone."
"Mr. Stone refused Mr. Hughes on your behalf."
Cordelia smiled slightly and said.
"Then Alaric probably won't be in a good mood all day today."
As Cordelia spoke, she smiled lightly.
Donald had never treated Alaric with such a serious manner before. This rare exception—
He was such a proud person, naturally he would be very displeased inside.
Allegra looked at Cordelia's good mood and said softly.
"Actually, things between you and Mr. Hughes like this aren't a solution."
Cordelia fell silent.
Donald's voice came from the living room.
"After all, the two families know each other, and you'll run into each other often. There's no other way."
Hearing this, Cordelia looked up at Donald.
Donald glanced at Cordelia and said in a gentle tone.
"As long as Cordelia isn't affected by them, that's fine. Shadowpine is where our Cordelia was born and raised. We can't leave our hometown because of them, can we?"
Cordelia's eyes reddened slightly. Hearing Donald's words, she was very moved.
Allegra sighed softly and nodded along.
"Mr. Stone is right."
She was just worried that Cordelia would be affected by them.
After all, Allegra had seen with her own eyes how much Cordelia used to like Alaric.
"As long as Cordelia isn't affected, that's enough."
Cordelia's lips curved up slightly. Seeing Amber walk in from the yard with a small net, the slight discomfort in her heart completely disappeared.
After breakfast, she said goodbye to Amber and headed to the hospital.
She had just stepped into her office.
Joe walked to her office door with a stern face, his eyes full of resentment.
"Dr. Stone, you really got me in trouble."
Cordelia got up from her chair, her face full of apology.
"I'm really sorry, Joe. I didn't—"
Seeing Cordelia about to make excuses, Joe quickly stopped her.
"Alright, don't say so much. I'm not blaming you."
"Next time you don't want to go, just tell me directly."
Cordelia smiled sheepishly and quickly agreed, "Joe, thank you for being so understanding."
Joe looked at Cordelia helplessly. What else could he do?
Cordelia was someone Ruth valued. He couldn't offend her. Plus, her medical skills were excellent. Could he really speak harshly to her? He could only indulge her.
