Chapter 121 Alaric's Desire to Possess Cordelia is Still So Strong
Hazel glanced at Alaric and noticed his gaze wasn't obviously looking toward Cordelia - he was hiding it well.
She smiled faintly, seeing right through him.
"Alaric, do you need me to help you switch dance partners?"
Alaric didn't answer her, his eyes cold and distant.
Hazel's face showed a sly smile. "But I have a condition."
"Speak." Alaric's expression remained unchanged, his tone indifferent.
Hazel's lips curved slightly as she said softly, "Recently my dad's illegitimate son has been causing too much trouble. I'm worried he'll affect my position as the Morrison family heir."
"So, can you deal with him for me?"
Alaric was experienced in business - he had plenty of ways to suppress an illegitimate son.
The question was whether Alaric would help her just to dance with Cordelia.
Hazel stared at Alaric expectantly.
Alaric's face showed no expression, but he uttered a single word: "Okay."
Hazel's face immediately lit up with a smile.
Halfway through the dance, Hazel led Alaric toward Carl and Cordelia.
As Cordelia was spinning, Hazel deliberately let go of Alaric's hand and bumped toward Cordelia.
Carl wanted to pull Cordelia to his side, but Hazel grabbed his hand directly. In just a few seconds, the hand he was holding had changed from Cordelia's to Hazel's.
Alaric hadn't expected Hazel to bump into Cordelia.
His face darkened. Seeing Cordelia about to fall, he reached out and pulled her into his arms with one arm around her waist.
Cordelia was a bit dazed by the sudden turn of events.
She knew Hazel had bad intentions when she approached them, but she hadn't expected Hazel was trying to steal her dance partner.
She saw that Hazel was already continuing to dance with Carl, and had moved away from them.
Cordelia couldn't quite understand what was happening.
While she was still confused, Alaric had naturally taken her hand and continued dancing.
Cordelia was forced to follow his movements.
She looked up at him, seeing his cold features with no obvious emotional changes.
"Did you arrange this?"
After calming down, Cordelia looked up at him.
This time, Alaric didn't deny it. He nodded. "Yes."
Cordelia's previously calm heart rippled at his low "yes," stirring slightly.
"Why?"
Her tone was very light, trying to hide the expectation in her heart.
Alaric looked at her quietly, tightening his arm around her waist slightly.
Her waist was still so soft and supple, just like three years ago, not at all like someone who had given birth.
"I just wanted to dance with you."
He answered flatly, with no emotion in his tone.
Cordelia stared at him blankly, then smiled. "Then why didn't Mr. Hughes invite me for the first opening dance?"
Alaric remained composed. "Because you would have refused."
Cordelia was silent for a few seconds.
She indeed would have refused.
And since that day when she ran into Alaric and Hazel at the boutique, she had already decided to keep her distance from Alaric as much as possible.
Cordelia didn't ask any more questions and followed Alaric's steps in the dance.
Seeing her suddenly stop asking questions, Alaric looked down at her.
"Nothing else you want to ask?"
Cordelia shook her head.
"No."
Cordelia's gaze quietly looked in other directions as she finished the dance with Alaric.
When the song ended, Cordelia pulled her hand from Alaric's. Her face wore a slight smile, her eyes calm and composed.
"Mr. Hughes, your fiancée is still waiting for you. I'll excuse myself."
Hazel had left early without finishing the dance with Carl.
Although Cordelia didn't understand why Hazel, as Alaric's fiancée, would actively push her to dance with Alaric, this behavior made Cordelia very uncomfortable.
She really disliked this feeling of being manipulated.
Alaric quietly watched Cordelia leave and return to Evelyn and the others.
Evelyn was obviously setting up blind dates for Cordelia in disguise.
Carl had been interested in Cordelia three years ago.
But at that time, the relationship between him and Cordelia was widely rumored, so he had restrained himself considerably.
Now that he and Cordelia were divorced, and everyone knew it, those who were interested in Cordelia naturally wanted to seize this opportunity.
Alaric took a deep breath.
The Stone family obviously didn't plan to hide the fact that Cordelia had a child.
But judging from today's situation, even though Cordelia had a child, the Lewis family still wanted to form a marriage alliance with the Stone family.
Alaric clenched the hand that had just held Cordelia's slender waist, as if her warmth still lingered.
Watching her walk to Carl's side and greet him with a smile, Alaric's heart was sharply pierced by her smile.
When he and Cordelia had just gotten married, she would smile at him like that too.
But now, although she still smiled at him, her eyes clearly no longer held him.
He took a deep breath, wanting to rush over and pull her into his arms, wanting to truly feel her body temperature, wanting to let her know that he could accept everything about her just like Carl, even accept her child with another man.
This crazy thought suddenly flooded his mind.
Alaric froze, his eyes turning cold.
The music had started again.
But no one dared enter the center of the dance floor.
Because Alaric still stood alone in the dance floor, his deep, sharp, almost murderous gaze fixed tightly on the direction where Cordelia and Carl were.
Everyone speculated.
Was Alaric unable to stand seeing his ex-wife flirting with another man?
They were already divorced, and Cordelia had been abroad for three years - was Alaric's possessiveness toward Cordelia still that strong?
Could it be that Alaric had been waiting for Cordelia all these three years?
But Cordelia hadn't waited for Alaric - she had turned around and had a child with another man.
What shocking news this was.
Everyone couldn't help but cast sympathetic looks at Alaric's date, Hazel.
After all, Hazel was the only woman Alaric had brought to public events in the past three years.
And the Morrison family had frequently spread news about forming a marriage alliance with the Hughes family.
So everyone assumed Hazel was already Alaric's fiancée.
Hazel sat on the sofa, supporting her chin with one hand, also watching Alaric like everyone else.
Seeing everyone's gaze sweep toward her, Hazel's expression froze.
What was going on? Why was everyone looking at her with sympathy?
Realizing she still carried the title of "Alaric's fiancée," Hazel felt extremely embarrassed.
She immediately reached out and pushed Robert, who was standing not far away.
"Go get Alaric over here, quick."
