Chapter 115 Cordelia, Why Are You Returning to Your Country?
Cordelia glanced at Alaric, whose face looked somewhat gloomy, and said softly to Evelyn, "Let's go to my office."
Evelyn nodded, "Okay."
She agreed readily and walked straight out of Alaric's hospital room carrying Amber.
Amber stayed obediently in Evelyn's arms. When she noticed Alaric's gaze fall on her, she immediately raised her little hand and waved at him.
"Goodbye, Mr. Hughes."
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh out loud. She turned her head to glance at Alaric and saw that his face looked particularly dark as he lay in the hospital bed.
Amber also noticed that Alaric didn't look too happy. She looked at him nervously and asked Evelyn in a small voice, "Aunt Evelyn, does Mr. Hughes not like me?"
Evelyn smiled and said, "No, Mr. Hughes is just in pain."
Only then did Amber nod in understanding, looking very well-behaved.
Evelyn quickly left Alaric's room carrying Amber.
Cordelia followed behind. She didn't even glance at Alaric as she left.
Bruce chose a sofa farthest from Alaric to sit down, enjoying Alaric's dark expression.
"Amber's adorable, isn't she? I think the suggestion I gave you before is still doable."
"Whether Amber calls you Mr. Hughes or Dad depends entirely on you."
Seeing Bruce's gloating expression, Alaric's eyes turned cold, and he spat out icily, "Get lost."
Bruce smiled and sat on the sofa with his legs crossed.
"I heard that the reason Cordelia and Dominic didn't get married is because of Dominic's ex-fiancée, who seems to be very close to Jade. So Jade has a big problem with the fact that Cordelia was divorced."
"The mother-in-law relationship being bad is one thing, but the main issue is that Dominic's ex-fiancée is trouble. After all, Cordelia divorced you because of Janet before, so naturally she doesn't want to jump into another dangerous situation."
Alaric's expression remained cold. Hearing Bruce's words, he felt a tightness in his chest.
"Dominic is really useless then."
Bruce nodded in agreement, "Indeed useless."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on Alaric with hidden meaning, his words carrying a double meaning.
How could Alaric not understand the mockery in Bruce's words?
He remained silent with a cold face, but Amber's cute appearance from earlier flashed through his mind, and his heart inexplicably ached.
Cordelia's office.
Evelyn put Amber down.
Amber immediately went to curiously examine the anatomical skeleton that Cordelia had placed in her office.
Evelyn sat to one side, smiling as she said, "Having Amber call Alaric 'Mr. Hughes' - you really came up with that."
Cordelia watched Amber curiously observing the equipment and replied calmly.
"It wasn't my idea. He said himself that he wanted to buy Amber a meeting gift, so of course Amber should show Alaric some respect."
Evelyn was stunned for a moment, not expecting that Alaric had never doubted Amber's identity.
Thinking of how much pain Cordelia went through when giving birth to Amber, Evelyn felt a surge of resentment.
A cold smile flashed in her eyes, "Then he really only deserves to be called Mr. Hughes."
Cordelia didn't respond. Looking at Amber's well-behaved appearance, her eyes were gentle.
When she was planning to return to Shadowpine from Astoria, she actually had some expectations in her heart. But now seeing Alaric like this, those expectations had diminished considerably.
She had always thought she had let go, but seeing Janet cheerfully talking about her past with Alaric, her heart couldn't help but be affected.
In her three years of marriage to Alaric, it seemed they hadn't created any particularly beautiful memories.
After resting for a while, Cordelia got busy again.
Bruce also needed to return to the company, so he and Evelyn took Amber back to The Stone Manor first.
After finishing her work, Cordelia planned to go to the cafeteria for lunch. Seeing the elevator door about to close, she immediately walked over.
When she reached the door, she saw Alaric standing inside the elevator on a phone call.
Seeing her, Robert immediately moved back to make room.
Cordelia stepped inside and stood beside Alaric.
Alaric's hand holding the phone had an IV catheter in it. When Cordelia entered the elevator, she couldn't help but glance at his hand. Noticing blood at the catheter site, she reminded him softly.
"The back of your hand is bleeding. You should get it treated."
Alaric glanced at her indifferently without responding.
Instead, a soft voice came from his phone, "Darling, is there a woman next to you?"
Cordelia was standing right beside Alaric, so naturally she heard the voice.
Her expression dimmed slightly. She withdrew her gaze and stood quietly to the side, saying nothing more.
Alaric's hand holding the phone tightened slightly, then he said in a deep voice, "I'll call you back later."
After hanging up, he lowered his hand to look at the back of it. Seeing Cordelia standing beside him, he extended his hand toward her.
"Help me treat it."
Cordelia looked at the hand in front of her, raised her eyes to glance at him, "Aren't you afraid your girlfriend will misunderstand?"
Alaric replied expressionlessly, "You're a doctor, I'm a patient. What's there to misunderstand?"
Cordelia felt a tightness in her chest but quickly regained her composure.
"I'll treat it at the front desk then."
When the elevator door opened, Cordelia led Alaric directly to the reception desk. The desk had iodine. Cordelia applied some to the back of his hand, then readjusted the needle position.
"Done."
After finishing, she turned to leave.
The nurse at the reception desk saw Cordelia heading toward the cafeteria and called out to her.
"Dr. Stone, can you bring me two sandwiches?"
Cordelia nodded in agreement, "Sure."
She didn't turn around as she spoke. Alaric glanced at her and was about to leave when Robert quickly said quietly.
"Mr. Hughes, I heard the nutritional meals at Sunrise Valley Hospital are very good."
"Your stomach isn't doing well right now. You could try them."
Alaric stopped and nodded slightly, "Let's try them then."
Cordelia had just sat down with her tray when she saw Alaric and Robert walk in from outside.
Robert walked up to Cordelia first and asked politely, "Ms. Stone, is anyone sitting here?"
Cordelia shook her head.
"No one."
Robert immediately said to Alaric, "Mr. Hughes, we can sit here."
Alaric's expression was calm as he walked over and sat down across from Cordelia.
Cordelia glanced around at the many empty seats available and raised her eyebrows slightly. Seeing Alaric take his seat, she didn't say anything and just lowered her head to eat.
Robert, seeing that the atmosphere between the two was relatively peaceful, secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He had really worried himself sick over these two, but here they were sitting at the same table like strangers, neither one speaking first.
