Chapter 113 They Came Together to Form Her Least Favorite Combination
After work, Cordelia stopped by her locker to change out of her work clothes, which delayed her a bit.
When she went from upstairs to the underground parking garage, Janet and her group happened to come down from another elevator.
When Jack and Sebastian saw Cordelia, they were polite and courteous.
Cordelia remained calm and composed when facing them.
Janet stood right next to Julian, and when she saw Cordelia, a smile immediately spread across her face.
"Dr. Stone, what a coincidence, we meet again."
Cordelia glanced down at the time, her gaze sweeping past Janet. "Not really a coincidence. This is a hospital, and I'm a doctor. It's normal to see me here."
After saying that, she walked to her car and opened the door. Just as she was about to get in, Janet called out to her again.
"Dr. Stone, I had a physical checkup recently, and the doctor who examined me said I should thank the doctor who performed my surgery. The operation was really successful. I never got to take you out for dinner back then. I wonder if I have the chance to treat you to a meal now?"
Janet spoke with a sincere expression, looking at her warmly.
Without hesitation, Cordelia refused directly.
"As a doctor, performing surgery on patients is my duty. Besides, the only reason I could operate on you back then was because Alaric forced me to."
"You don't need to thank me. If you really want to thank someone, thank Alaric."
Julian raised an eyebrow, looked at Cordelia, and said with a smile.
"You can't say that. If another doctor had done this surgery, it probably wouldn't have been as successful. So Dr. Stone, she should treat you to this meal."
Cordelia frowned slightly, looking at Julian, her eyes growing colder.
She curved her lips slightly, forcing out a smile.
"Mr. Pierce, you and Ms. Martin together form the duo I dislike most in Shadowpine. Having dinner with you two would ruin my appetite."
Sebastian and Jack didn't plan to get involved in their conflicts, so they walked toward their own cars.
When Sebastian heard what Cordelia said, he couldn't help but stop and look at Jack, his expression seeming to say, "What should we do? I really want to stay and watch."
Jack glanced at him, then saw Cordelia open her car door and get in after saying those words.
He also opened his car door and got in.
Everyone knew Evelyn was not to be messed with, but would her sister Cordelia's personality be too soft?
Janet watched Cordelia's taillights as she drove away, her hands clenched tightly at her sides.
Sebastian then followed Jack and got in the car.
Julian stood there, raising an eyebrow as he watched Cordelia drive away, smiling.
He clearly hadn't even started doing anything yet, so how did he end up being disliked?
Janet withdrew her gaze and looked at Julian beside her.
But Julian had already started walking toward his car.
Janet watched his back and walked over in a few steps, saying softly.
"The person Mr. Pierce likes is Dr. Stone, isn't it?"
Julian changed girlfriends frequently, and each one had something in common with Cordelia.
Janet had thought that when she went abroad six years ago and Julian went with her to try to bring her back to Shadowpine, it was because he liked her.
Now she realized that Julian just didn't want her to go abroad and give Cordelia and Alaric a chance to be together.
During the three years Cordelia was away, Julian kept bringing her to appear in front of Alaric, trying again and again to create opportunities for them.
Seeing Julian not respond, Janet took it as him agreeing.
Julian didn't even pause in his steps and got in his car and left.
Janet was left standing alone, watching Julian's car drive away, feeling very unwilling.
Over the past three years, Alaric had barely paid any attention to her, so Janet had treated Julian as her stepping stone to marry into a wealthy family.
Although the Pierce family wasn't as good as the Hughes family, the Pierce family still had a place in Shadowpine.
However, over these three years, despite all her efforts, Julian still maintained a distant relationship with her.
She watched as his girlfriends changed one after another, and now she finally understood that the person Julian had liked all along was Cordelia.
Janet took a deep breath, her eyes showing some unwillingness.
She had no chance with Alaric, so could she really not fight for a chance with Julian?
Janet didn't believe it. She didn't believe she was worse than Cordelia.
How much could a doctor's annual salary be?
She could earn in one year what a doctor couldn't earn in a lifetime!
Cordelia just won because of her family background.
That evening.
Saskia brought dinner to Alaric.
Alaric, who was uncomfortable staying in the hospital, insisted on returning to The Hughes Manor. However, without Cordelia's instructions, the nurses didn't dare let Alaric leave.
So Alaric was stopped at the door by several nurses.
One of the nurses called Cordelia.
Cordelia told her to give the phone to Alaric.
Alaric took the phone with a cold expression.
Cordelia's gentle voice came through.
"When you go back, take the medicine from the hospital room with you. Take it once tonight, and come to the hospital early tomorrow morning for an IV."
"Don't eat anything after six o'clock tonight, and don't eat breakfast tomorrow morning either. Come to the hospital around ten tomorrow morning for the IV and a checkup."
Listening to her gentle instructions, Alaric's irritable mood calmed down.
Just as he was about to respond, he heard a soft, sweet voice from the phone, "Mommy, hug."
Alaric's eyes darkened. Without answering, he handed the phone directly to the nurse at the door.
The nurse took Cordelia's call and then let Alaric leave.
Robert had already driven the car to the hospital entrance. Seeing Alaric come down, he quickly got out and opened the car door.
Alaric got into the back seat with a cold expression. "Go to Crown Hill Estates."
After saying this coldly, he closed his eyes to rest.
Robert had just started the car when Alaric in the back seat coldly changed the address.
"Actually, go to Garden Vista Estates."
Robert raised an eyebrow and glanced at Alaric in the back seat through the rearview mirror. Seeing his cold, handsome face, he didn't ask more questions and started the car toward Garden Vista Estates.
After talking with the nurse for a bit, Cordelia put down her phone.
She knew Alaric definitely couldn't spend the night in the hospital.
Although Alaric's hospital room was well-furnished, given how picky he was, he definitely wouldn't be able to sleep.
His body needed proper rest right now.
Frequent late nights would affect his gastrointestinal system and his entire body's internal environment. It was better to let him go back and rest.
Alaric had Robert by his side, plus many servants, so there was no need to worry about any problems.
After putting down her phone, Cordelia picked up Amber, who was asking for a hug.
She carefully studied Amber's face, trying to find some similarities with Alaric.
But Amber looked so much like her that there really were few similarities with Alaric.
She held Amber in her arms, gently patting her back to soothe her to sleep.
Thinking about Alaric saying this afternoon that he wanted to give Amber a gift, she couldn't help feeling a bit melancholy.
