Chapter 43 CHAPTER FOURTY THREE

Chapter 43 CHAPTER FOURTY THREE
Alyssa

I walked out of the boardroom my head still held high, I could hear quick footsteps behind me.

It was Marcus.

"Alyssa! Alyssa wait!" he called out his voice shaky. "I... I can't believe it, you’re alive. We all thought... we thought you were dead."

I stopped and turned to face him. My expression was cold. "Well as you can see I am very much alive and I have a company to run."

He looked like he wanted to say more but I didn't give him a chance I turned and continued walking to my father's old office—now my office.

Marcus followed me inside.

I looked around.

The room was different, my father's favorite painting was gone, the dark wood desk had been replaced with a modern glass one It was all my uncle's taste.

I hated it.

To think he has already changed everything shamelessly.

"Marcus," I called out my voice sharp.

"Yes Alyssa?" he replied standing nervously by the door.

"There are going to be some changes around here," I stated. "Starting with this office, I want everything my uncle put in here removed and I want my father's desk back, I want his painting back as well. In fact i want everything restored to exactly how it was. Do you understand?"

He nodded quickly. "Yes of course. I will see to it immediately."

"Good," I said walking behind the glass desk It felt wrong.

I settled down with a sigh the seat feeling uncomfortable unlike the soft one my father had, “You know what Marcus, I want you to set up a business dinner with all our major investors there, I need to speak with them personally I want it done by the end of the week."

"Consider it done Boss" Marcus said pulling out his phone to take notes probably.

My relationship with Marcus will remain professional, one year had drawn us so much apart that I don’t think I could trust him, for all I know my uncle may have brain washed him.

My thoughts came to a halt as the office door swung open without a knock my uncle Martin walking in angrily.

"Marcus," Martin barked not even looking at him. "Leave us I need to speak with my niece. Alone."

Marcus looked at me unsure before I gave him a small nod and he quickly left closing the door behind him.

Martin stormed further into the room. "What do you think you are doing Alyssa? This is not a game!"

"I know it's not a game Uncle, never said it was " I replied calmly adjusting my sitting position in the chair. "It's business, my business now”

"Your business?" he laughed a harsh ugly sound. "You have no idea how to run this company, you are still a child… you’re an illiterate to these business affairs. You are not fit to be CEO! You don't know how things work around here!"

"I know enough," I fired back my voice rising as I felt insulted by his words, he had no right. "I know you were stealing from me I know you were giving my money to Damon Johnson. Does that sound like you know how things 'work'?"

His eyes widened for a second but he quickly recovered. "You have no proof of that You are just a naive little girl making wild accusations!"

"Am I?" I stood up leaning my hands on the desk. "Then why are you so scared? Why are you so angry that I'm here? If you have done nothing wrong you should be happy to have me back you should be happy to have your niece back."

"I am not scared of you child" he yelled pointing a finger at me. "I built this company alongside your father, I have spent years here! You waltz in after so many years of abandoning the company and think you can just take over? You are going to run this company into the ground!"

"I would rather run it into the ground myself than let a thief like you run it for another second!" I shouted back my composure finally breaking. "You betrayed my father's trust! You betrayed me! You are a disgrace!"

"We did what we had to do to survive!" he roared. "Your little scandal hurt the company! Aligning with Johnson was a smart business move! Something you would never understand because you think with your emotions! You are weak!"

"Weak?" I laughed a cold bitter sound. "I survived a year in prison Uncle and I am still standing. You call that weak? You who steals from his own family? You are the weak one and you are finished here”

"With all due respect uncle, leave my office," I replied ordered my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Now."

He stared at me his chest heaving with rage that for a moment I thought he might actually hit me but then he turned and stormed out slamming the door so hard the glass on the desk rattled.

I stood there breathing heavily.

The argument was over but I knew the war with my uncle had just begun.

And I was so ready for them.
