Chapter 44: CHAPTER FOURTY FOUR
Damon
I slammed the door of my office so hard the frame shook, I felt like I couldn't breathe.
It wasn't possible.
It couldn't be.
This couldn’t be possible.
Alyssa Hall, my ex-wife? The woman I dumped, the woman I thought was a poor useless and a nobody.
She was Alyssa White.
The sole heir to the White Enterprise, a billion-dollar empire the one my father and I had been trying to get a deal with for years.
All this time, for seven years she lived with me, slept slept in my bed, took all the insults and unruly behavior from my family and never said a word.
“Ahhh!”a roar tore from my throat as I swept my arm across my desk sending my computer, my files everything crashing to the floor.
I picked up a glass paperweight and threw it at the wall It shattered into a thousand pieces.
Fucking hell!
This couldn’t be.
This has to be horrible nightmare, one that I’d wake up from any minute from now. Alyssa couldn’t possibly be the only daughter of Robert white.
There had to be a misunderstanding, my ex wife couldn’t be a hiress. She’s a fucking nobody, a poor helpless open that leeched off from me for years.
The door slipping open snaps me out of my train of thoughts. My father and Martin walked in their faces grim.
"What is the meaning of this Damon?" my father asked, his voice tight. "Calm down!"
"Calm down?!" I screamed turning on them. "CALM DOWN?! Did you not see what just happened?! Alyssa, my Alyssa! She's... she's a White!"
Martin held up his hands. "Damon I need you to explain this to me. You were married to my niece? You never told me that, I only heard you divorced your ex wife but neither you or your father mentioned it was Alyssa.”
"Of course I didn't tell you” I yelled. "I thought she was nobody, I thought she was just some poor orphan gir just like what she told me years back when we met in college, how was I supposed to know she was your billionaire niece?!"
"This is a disaster," my father said running a hand over his face. "A complete disaster If she withdraws our business deal we are finished Damon. Our company will not survive. We have put everything into this alliance!"
"I know that!" I shouted kicking a broken piece of my desk. "She's going to ruin me! She's going to take everything just like she promised she would but I never took it serious."
"We won't let that happen," Martin said but he looked worried. "I am still on the board I have influence I can still fight this but Alyssa has more shares than I do, and to get those shares would be a tough one… we need to know her weakness "
My father turned to Martin his eyes narrow. "Martin you told us she was handled, you said your man on the inside confirmed it. You told us she was dead! You said her body was buried in the prison cemetery! How is she standing in your boardroom alive and well?”
Martin's face was pale. "I don't know I paid the warden a fortune! He assured me the job was done! He sent me pictures of a body bag! He said it was her I don't know how she survived! I don't know how she got out!"
"That's not good enough!" I roared getting right in his face. "You had one job! To make sure that pathetic whining woman that happened to be my ex wife was gone forever and you failed! Now she's back and she's going to destroy us all!"
"Don't you dare speak to me like that!" Martin snapped back. "I have risked everything for this! I have embezzled money from my own family's company to fund your failing business! If she finds out the full extent of it I will go to jail!"
"WE will go to jail!" my father corrected his voice shaking with anger. "We are all in this together Martin! You, me, Damon! We are all guilty!"
"This is your fault!" I yelled pointing a finger at my father. "You were the one who said we needed to get rid of her! You said she was a liability, you said a divorce would be too messy and she would take half my money and disappear from our lives, if only I had been patient a little bit more patient then maybe she would have told me who she really was and then we won’t be here having this conversation right now”
"And it was supposed to be!" my father yelled back. "We all didn’t know she was a Heiress"
"Stop blaming each other!" Martin shouted. "We need a plan. She is going to dig into the company records and she will find the money I transferred, she will find everything!"
"We need to stop her before she does" I said my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. The rage was cooling turning into something hard and cold. "We need to end her and for real this time before she ends all of us."
My father stared at me. "Damon what are you saying?"
"You know exactly what I'm saying," I said, my eyes locked on his. "We tried to have her killed once and it didn't work. We can't afford to fail again she is a threat to everything we have. To our company and freedom. She needs to disappear. Permanently."
The room was silent.
My father finally nodded his face grim. Martin looked terrified but he nodded too.
They knew I was right.
Alyssa White had to die.
There was no way my ex wife would ruin me, not if I do that first.
