Chapter 98 Today is your lucky day
Karen’s voice, though soft, carried immense authority, as all gazes were pinned on her. Leaning in, she whispered something to Roger, who had a confused expression on his face.
His wife had not been that soft since her return, so this was like a dream catcher, but what she said to him changed everything.
“We won’t find Destiny if you kill them,” she said, Roger knew she was right, amazed by how his emotions had taken control of him.
He couldn’t stand anyone staring at his wife that way, which upset him and caused him to lose emotional control.
“You are right,” he whispered back before his attention returned to the two men. “Today is your lucky day.”
A sigh of relief escaped them, and what happened next excited them even more. “You two are free to go,” Roger said, patting the back of the man with hazel eyes due to their close proximity, but the poor man shook from fear.
Roger may have looked young, but the man knew that if not for Karen, he would have been dead already.
Though they had nothing tangible for their boss, they didn’t dare to say another word for fear that Roger might revert to his initial plan of wasting them.
As soon as they left the private room, Roger instructed the two bodyguards, “Follow them. I want a report on all of their movements, and as soon as we get what we need, make sure they are wasted. No man lusts after my wife and lives.”
Ryan and Max lowered their heads upon hearing the instruction, afraid to even glance at Karen.
The boss was indeed obsessed with his little wife, and only a fool would be careless enough to provoke his anger regarding her.
The two bodyguards nodded obediently, and left as Roger sat on a chair, guiding Karen to his lap as he instructed Max.
“Activate our Genutech.” Their Genutech was a short term for one of their well-developed tracking devices called, Genius technology. The size of that device was as small as a chia seed but had not only an audio but also a camera.
However, as soon as that man took off his jacket, they wouldn’t be able to hear, see, or track him. That was the reason why Roger instructed the bodyguards to follow them.
As soon as the activation was completed, Roger heard the report. “Sir, I’m sorry, but we couldn’t get any information to interest you.”
To their surprise, Destiny was not as upset as they had expected, instead making a stunning revelation.
“It’s okay. I decided to invest in something else, and the only reason I had you go was to see Karen again.”
The sound of Roger’s knuckles cracking in response to Destiny’s words made Ryan and Max inhale deeply, fearing Roger’s anger.
“So, what’s the plan?” the man on the line asked, with the sound of Destiny’s annoying laughter audible before he replied,
“Don’t worry. I have someone better to do the job, and Roger won’t see it coming when I steal his little wife from him. Trust me, he will go crazy for the rest of his life.”
Roger wasted no time and called one of the two bodyguards on the phone. “Do it now.” The screeching sound of a car was heard, along with Destiny’s anxious voice.
“Hello, Grant, tell me something. Hello, can you hear me?”
Roger received an immediate call. “It’s done.” Yet, his anger was not quelled. “Call him,” he instructed Max, whose fingers shook as he dialed Destiny’s number and activated the speaker.
“Max, do you have anything to do with this?” Destiny’s worried voice sounded, but Roger responded, his voice devoid of any emotion.
“Destiny, this is Roger. Sadly, your name doesn’t even ring a bell, but what was done to your men is nothing compared to what will happen to you if I ever see your ugly face.”
The call ended abruptly, and as amusing as it was for a man who had been boasting earlier to suddenly show fear, neither of the two men present found it funny.
What they feared most was being on Roger’s bad side again.
Throughout the drive home, Roger’s mood sunk, and Karen had still not recovered from everything that had happened. Those two men deserved it for disrespecting her, but Roger’s silence was what scared her.
“You’re still sulking,” she spoke up after a few minutes of silence, and the ice around Roger melted instantly. “I’m sorry. I just feel helpless because, his name, voice, or identity doesn’t ring a bell.”
It wasn't everyone in Roger's class that he could remember because he skipped most of the classes. For some, his interaction was brief, and yes, he did put a lot of wrongdoers in their rightful places.
Touched by the way he shared his vulnerability with her, Karen's hand pressed gently against Roger's on the steering wheel.
"I trust you to protect me, and even if I get into trouble, I can defend myself." Roger nodded. Indeed, Karen was well-trained, but that reminded him. "I think we should start training together. Just thirty minutes a day will do."
Karen did not refuse. A few days later, Roger planned a surprise for Karen since it was a Friday night, and the night before her graduation, thereby sending a driver to pick up Oriana and Delanie.
He barely arrived at the RD Group car park to pick up Karen for the surprise when he received a call from the driver. "Sir, Miss Dawson took the car and told me to pick a cab home."
"What?" Roger was worried, asking, "do you have any idea where she's headed?"
There was a pause on the line, causing Roger's anger to rise. "Will you answer my question or…"
