Chapter 93 Secrets
Earlier, Roger sighed after Karen and Oriana excused themselves, thinking of ways to make Delanie understand his stance on the matter. He loved her so much, but not in a romantic or erotic way.
For Karen, it was both. Even when he claimed not to love her, he always felt that strange attraction towards her that could make him do things he never imagined with her.
If this obsession were with someone else, Roger would have handled it with ease, but Delanie was already knitted in his heart, and there was no way he would be able to cut ties with her.
She was the biological daughter of Giovanni and Molly, ones he loved as his parents, so he couldn’t mess things up.
“I was there when you were born, Lani, and I fell in love with you the moment I held you in my arms. In that instance, I decided to transfer all the love Mom and Dad gave me, and more. I love you, Lani, and nothing is ever going to change that,” he said sincerely, but Delanie knew it wasn’t the kind of love she wanted from him.
“But I don’t want that kind of love. I love you, and I feel deserving of being your wife.” It was safer to be with him than anybody else.
All her life, she never loved anyone the way she loved Roger but always felt it was a platonic one until the truth was laid bare.
“No, I’ve never seen you that way,” Roger burst her bubble, her eyes were moist as he continued. “Come on, I changed your diaper. I know you in a way no one else does.”
Delanie was shaking her head, tears streaming down her cheek. “No, if you won’t marry me, then I don’t want to see you again. I don’t care about my life either,” she yelled and dashed through the door.
Roger hissed, “This is harder than I thought.” He followed her, afraid she might harm herself, but the moment he saw his wife, he paused and kissed her briefly before catching up narrowly to Delanie by the car when she was about to enter.
Roger entered through the window, and Delanie sped off like she was mad. Roger was calm, not saying a word to stop her or convince her to reduce the speed, only watching the road to ensure they didn’t get into an accident.
Luckily, the road wasn’t busy, and they made it in time to Giovanni’s office. Delanie dashed out of the car without turning off the engine, so Roger had to park and kill the engine for her.
Delanie embraced her father affectionately when she reached his office, a pool of tears blinding her as she pulled away and accused him, “you should have told me, Dad. I’ve always loved Roger.”
Giovanni was not liking this. This was his moment of enjoyment with his wife and not a time for his children’s drama.
“What you are saying sounds like incest to me,” he said seriously. Delanie was even more heartbroken by the fact that he didn’t side with her, but he explained, “I’ve loved Roger as a son, never imagining the two of you the way you are saying.”
Roger entered the office at that moment, throwing Delanie’s car key on his father’s desk as the latter stared apologetically at him. “I’m sorry for everything.”
Roger smiled. This was a family issue no one needed to feel sorry for. “It’s alright, Dad. I can take care of everything.”
Giovanni was relieved that Roger didn’t find Delanie troublesome and sighed. “Good. The documents are ready.” He sat back in his executive chair.
Delanie was upset that her father was handling it so casually and was still bent on that vacation. “Dad, are you leaving?”
Giovanni glanced at her in all elegance as he signed the final documents, giving Roger authority over the board as well. “Yeah, the private jet is waiting, and your mom is already there.”
Delanie’s gaze was teary. Roger had Karen and would not choose Delanie over his wife, so she wanted the comfort of her parents, and now this. “But this is when I need you most.”
Roger had it all sorted out. With Delanie mentioning not caring about her life was a nip in the bud, he couldn’t leave her alone, and no matter how stubborn she was, he was the only one who could calm her.
“Lani, I think you should live with us for a while. Karen wouldn’t mind, and Oriana is there too.”
Giovanni looked up, about to debunk the idea because Declan was capable of watching over Delanie, but when Delanie agreed after a little thought, he swallowed his discomfort.
“Yeah, I'd love to live with you," she smiled as an idea came into her mind. Both Roger and Delanie walked their father to his car before Roger walked Delanie to hers. "Be good. I'll pick you up later."
Delanie nodded but didn't maintain eye contact. Roger returned to Giovanni's office. After lunch, he would have to visit the Davis Group as well.
However, he made arrangements to meet Destiny over lunch the next day with Karen, and after leaving the Davis Group, one of the Dawson's security team sent him a report.
Indeed, the body in the coffin was not Tonia, and now he wondered what Karen would think about it and who was behind Tonia.
‘I want to know where the original body was sent to,’ he texted, receiving a response within seconds.
"On it, sir."
Roger was not liking this, but another video was sent, and this time, it was Katherine. She had gone to Karen's office when Roger wasn't there.
What surprised him was Karen not saying anything about it throughout the times he sent her lunch and checked on her on the phone.
After picking her up with Delanie and Oriana, he only asked when they were in the comfort of their bedroom. "Your mother came over? What did she say?" Karen paled instantly.
