Chapter 82 Graveyard proposal
A cool breeze blew, and the dry leaves danced solo, one after the other. It was a strange occurrence for the weather to be so cold all of a sudden, and Karen swore she could feel Dexter’s presence.
In her mind, he was even smiling at her. Her gaze fixed on Roger, and something tickled her. The way he knew what to do without her telling him was enough proof that they were meant to be.
His family stood there with soul-touching eagerness, and she could feel the love in the air. It was strange, but she loved that Roger respected her late best friend, involving him in this groundbreaking proposal.
"Yes, Stallion, let’s stay married for as long as you don’t change," Karen smiled shyly as she stared into his eyes.
Roger slipped the ring onto her finger before rising to his feet and pulling her into his arms. This was the best day of his life.
The process of love and marriage had been messed up by him, but now, he was putting everything together again, and who knows, something bigger might even shake Karen for the better.
Gently, he moved the strands of hair from her face to the back of her ears. "Kitten, I can’t promise not to change, but I can promise it will always be for the better."
Karen smiled as he leaned in and kissed her passionately, and the family clapped for them. "Congratulations, Roger," the family yelled as they threw a thousand rose petals all over them.
Trips to the cemetery were always filled with sorrow, and Karen never thought a trip to the cemetery would make her so happy, but it did.
The strangest thing was to be proposed to in a place like this, but it felt right because of Roger’s thoughtfulness and considering the one person who meant so much in Karen’s life.
"We have to celebrate over a family dinner," Molly expressed. Roger smiled and informed them, "I know the exact place.
" Though he got them involved, the arrangements were made specially by him because of how magical he wanted it to be.
If his parents had arranged it, they would use the Dawson style, and that wouldn’t make Karen happy. She was a simple girl who loved the simplicities of life.
Roger, in his own way, had magnified the things she loved, but she loved it because he never took away the things she cherished.
If Roger knew she loved ice cream, then he would buy her the whole ice cream shop. If she loved orchids, then he’d give her an orchid garden. If she loved pets, then he would give her the zoo.
Karen was touched, and at this moment, she was certain she made the right choice. Roger had changed, and she was glad to be the one enjoying this side of him.
As they entered the car and drove, Giovanni followed Roger to his mansion where a great feast awaited them at Karen’s special summer hut.
Declan admired Roger’s house. “I can’t believe I’ve never been here. This garden is the most beautiful place in the world.”
Delanie remembered her last time here. The garden had blossomed more than the first time, and the summer hut was amazing. Roger was known for going overboard, and this was exactly like him.
“Karen, you are so lucky to have him because if he wasn’t my brother, I would have married him myself,” she said excitedly, but the atmosphere shifted slightly.
Karen smiled but failed to notice the discomfort in the faces of Roger, his mother, and father. “Don’t say things like that, Lani. It makes it sound as if you are crushing on your brother,” Molly chastised, but something flickered in Roger’s eyes.
It was quick, and no one saw it. Karen remembered something and stood up suddenly. “I almost forgot. I have something for you.” She ran into the house before Roger could stop her and brought a gift. “Your birthday gift, but you haven’t opened it.”
Roger had seen it, but Karen was so busy preparing for her exams that he didn’t want to question her about it.
With her bringing it up, he eagerly opened the gift and lifted it up. “Wow, a blue antique goblet from the eighties?”
Karen thought he didn’t like it and explained, “I didn’t know the celebrant, so I bought something neutral.” It was a gift acceptable for all generations, as well as both sexes, but Delanie cleared the air. “I don’t think you get what he means.”
Karen stared at her with confusion as she continued, “Roger loves blue, and that antique blew his mind.” A sigh of relief escaped Karen. “I’m glad you like it.”
Pulling her close, Roger kissed her on the lips. “No, Kitten, I love it.” Her phone rang immediately, distracting the mood. Pulling slightly away, she checked the caller ID. “It’s Oriana.”
Before anyone could stop her, she answered it. “Oriana.”
“Hey Karen, congratulations. Everyone is eager to know how the exams went.”
Karen smiled, feeling elated. “It’s all thanks to you, Professor Josh, Joe, and Aunt Octavia. You are all amazing.”
Oriana beamed at the end of the line. “Everyone is here but Karen, I heard Roger handed over RD Group to you. Can you do me a favor?”
“Anything,” Karen said, ready to return a favor but soon regretted it.
