Chapter 81 Karen put me on trial

Chapter 81 Karen put me on trial
Karen looked around at the cemetery, and fear encased her. Roger had already gotten down from the car, taken the wreath from the back seat, and walked around to open the door for her, but Karen refused to step out of the car.

“No way,” she shivered. Was he going to kill and bury her? He shouldn’t have invested so much in her to do that. No wonder they said the Dawsons were dangerous, but what did she do to deserve this?

Giovanni’s car parked right beside theirs, and hope returned to her heart as she stared at him with teary eyes. “Dad, is coming to the cemetery the way to congratulate me? Do you want me dead too? You didn’t have to bring me here to do so,” she was saying when the family burst into laughter.

“She’s an interesting one,” Declan commented. Molly smiled and assured her, “It’s not what you think, Karen. You are family, and no one can kill you.”

Karen had lost hope for a moment when she felt they were making fun of her. “Come on, kitten, we don’t have all day,” Roger coaxed. Karen was still apprehensive. “No way am I entering a cemetery with you.”

Roger felt helpless, but taking a deep breath, he removed a revolver from a hidden compartment in the car and gave it to her. “It’s loaded. If you feel threatened, pull the trigger.”

Karen knew how to fire a gun, and if Roger indeed meant evil for her, then he would not have given her the gun. Sighing, she pushed it away.

“Fine. I’ll go see the surprise you have for me in a cemetery.” She emphasized the word ‘cemetery.’

Roger smiled, joining his hand to hers as they walked by various tombs, going further and further away.

The more distance behind them, the more fear and panic encased Karen, but she had to take their words for it until Roger stopped by a particular tomb.

“Here?” she asked before she saw the name. Dexter Knoll. Tears blinded her eyes as Roger handed over the wreath to her. “I guess you’ll need this.”

He moved away from her to give her the necessary privacy before he joined the rest of the family a distance away. The breeze blew the fallen dry leaves, sending a shiver down her spine.

Karen had never visited Dexter’s tomb after the latter was buried, so this really touched her heart. She sobbed.

“Dexter, you were right, and I’m so sorry it took me so long to visit.” Wiping the tear from her eyes with the back of her hand, Roger hurriedly handed her a white handkerchief before returning to his original position.

Karen wiped her tears, but they were soon replaced by another pool. “Dexter, I miss you so much, and there was a time when I wanted to end it all, but guess what, help found me.”

She lowered herself and squatted by his tomb. “You know what, Dexter, I found Terror D2, and I know how thrilled you were about him. Yeah, everything you said about him is true, and guess what, he’s my husband now.”

Remembering how Dexter had pushed her to learn ethical hacking and cybersecurity, more tears fell from her eyes. “Thank you for pushing me to learn so much when I actually did it just to make yourself happy. I really hope that you are happy wherever you are because I found happiness too.”

As soon as she placed the wreath by the tomb, Roger walked to her side and joined his hand to hers.

“Dexter, I met you a few times, but we were never friends. Little did I know how much you had invested in my wife, Karen. I promise to take very good care of her, and I hope it makes you happy that you finally got to meet Terror D2.”

He paused briefly and continued. “You know what, I messed up in the beginning, and Karen put me on trial.”

His hand joined to hers squeezed as he continued, “I learned my lessons the hard way, and though being on probation, the timeline passed over a week ago.”

Karen remembered her promise, growing slightly nervous. “Dexter, with you as my witness, as well as my family,” they all gathered around them as Roger went down on one knee and brought out a rare pink diamond ring.

Karen’s heart stopped. She had never seen anything as beautiful as the ring he held. They were married, but Roger had never given her a ring like she wanted.

Now, it was as if they had just met. “Kitten, I missed the steps, but I will spend every day of my life making it up to you,” Roger said sincerely, his moist gaze fixed on hers.

“Will you stay married to me in front of all those present as well as Dexter?”
