Chapter 53 Anything for you, my kitten.
Roger didn’t want to remember, but how could he escape the question?
“Kitten, I feel so ashamed to say it, but it was because of the age difference and your height. You look so small and you are so young. Anytime I’m around you, I feel old, but not anymore. You make me feel young now.”
He picked a casual wear for her, a pair of shorts and a shirt. It was the right size, right above her knee, decent, and yet stunning.
The color complemented her skin tone, giving her a look that was a classy version of herself.
Karen was still stupefied by everything happening around her. She never cared about the age difference, and now that she realized it was the main reason Roger rejected her, she was slightly consoled.
However, the last part was something she couldn’t change, so he must have accepted her as she was.
“I don’t understand. It’s so comfortable and graceful,” she smiled. Roger embraced her from behind and revealed proudly, “I designed them myself.”
Shock spiraled through her, and he sighed. “You see, the dress you wore last night didn’t suit you.”
Karen was upset, but he quickly saw through it and calmed her. “Don’t get me wrong. You looked good, but in a sexual way.” His voice was soft, careful to not upset her. “I prefer my woman to carry presence. When you meet anyone, there should be a wow effect of admiration without sexuality.”
Karen nodded to his expectation of her. It was something she wanted for herself as well, but everyone kept comparing her to Tonia.
“How are you so multi-talented, and if that is the case, then what attracted you to Tonia?”
Roger inhaled deeply, finding the right words to say without sounding offensive. “There is a lot you don’t know about me, and six days is too small,” he shrugged. Karen smiled, understanding the meaning of his words.
“But you have to answer my question.”
Roger walked out of the closet hand in hand with her. “As you already know, I grew up with a star. Mom was always in the limelight after we encouraged her to pursue her dreams.”
“I don’t get it. Do you mean she didn’t want to sing?” Roger pursed his lips tightly, torn between telling her about his true parentage. “There are things I will tell you later, but the long and short of the matter is, I wanted a woman like my mother or sister, and Tonia fell into that category.”
Karen was nodding her head. It all made sense to her now. “So, what changed?”
Roger let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “I came to realize she was a beautiful can on the outside but shallow on the inside. A selfish, shallow, and soulless materialistic bitch.
Then I began to think about my reason for wanting a wife. The more I established it, the more she faded, but honestly, I still tried to give her a last chance, but all I got was insult.
Then I decided that all my love will be for the one who loved me for me. It doesn’t matter if she’s tall or short. That day, I decided to love only you.”
Karen was dumbfounded through his speech. He was making progress because of his honesty, and there was nothing she could do about it.
“Honestly, you are better than I thought, but I still can’t get over your level of wealth.”
The mention of wealth reminded him of the text message he received from her. “You needed money. Did you get it?”
With Karen’s dreams in the open, she didn’t want to be vulnerable. From the way things turned out, she wouldn’t be able to take any more help from Van too. “Let’s talk about it later.”
Roger didn’t force it, determined to find a way to get all the needed information about her dreams and aspirations. “Okay, but I have another surprise for you.”
Karen recalled how every surprise amazed her to the core. What if she got so entangled and forgot to eat? “Okay, but I’m famished.”
“Fuck!” Roger exclaimed, feeling ashamed. “I should have made breakfast earlier. I’ll whip you something fast.”
He was already at the door in only his boxer shorts when Karen stopped him. “Wait, do you do all the cooking by yourself?”
It was hard to believe he was still going to cook for her after knowing who he was. “Do you not want me to cook for you?” Roger sounded sorrowful, but Karen established her point.
“You are busy.”
“It doesn’t matter. I can call on the domestic workers to clean, and I honestly don’t want them snooping around, but if you want…”
Karen quickly interrupted. “No, no, it’s okay like this. I’ll help in the kitchen.”
Roger didn’t refuse because every moment spent with her would only draw them closer. “Then you can feed Milo while I cook.”
Karen was excited for the challenge. There was so much to explore at the mansion, and she was never bored. “Can I go to the garden after?” she asked over breakfast. Roger smiled. “Sure.”
That’s the surprise he has for her anyway, and when they reached there, he got the exact reaction he expected.
“Stallion, how is this possible?”
It seemed like magic because she never saw or heard Roger speak to anyone, and everything was done as if the picture in her mind was laid bare.
“Anything for you, my kitten.”
Karen embraced him tightly, and he kissed the top of her head. The inside of the summer hut was decorated in her favorite colors, and instead of chairs, there was a U-shaped sofa with a coffee table in the middle.
This was a blend of elegance and simplicity. Karen had her lunch in the garden, watching the birds and bees pollinate, the sound of chirping like music to her ears.
Roger gave her everything she ever dreamed of and more, bringing tears to her eyes.
In the middle of the night, Karen woke up to the sound of fingers pressing against a keypad.
Her eyes opened drowsily to see Roger’s face squeezed, his focus on his laptop. When he realized she was awake, a smile replaced the frown from before. “Kitten, you are awake.”
Karen had already seen through his perfect façade, asking seriously, “Is there a problem?”
