Trying to recover love

**STEVEN WOLKER'S POV**

Through that meeting, I ended up discovering Sophie's company address; however, I still didn't know her details. I realize that I'm holding back from finding out, as if I wanted to protect my mental sanity, even though I know I could suddenly find out something unpleasant.

"Did they do what I asked?" I inquire about the household employee. I wasn't experienced in doing anything romantic, but I would have to learn gradually, so I sought help. I had a lot of work ahead to try to win her back.

"Yes, sir, I managed. I hope Mrs. Madson loves it," the employee replies.

"How do you know it's for her?" I ask, puzzled.

"You love each other and deserve to be together, sir. I saw how passionate you were in your daily life; I have no doubt," she asserts.

I smiled. I had never been so open to dealing with the people around me. In fact, everything that happened served to mature me not only in terms of relationships but also in regard to the environment in which I lived. I couldn't see the good people I had around me.

I left the house; the black Porsche awaited me in the front yard. I glance inside, and it's filled with red roses. I don't know if she overdid it or if she truly knew what could soften a woman's heart, but I hope it works. Then, I drive towards the address of her company.

When I arrived at the location, I observed the mirrored building, which had around six floors. She made an incredible mark in the market, and I am proud of this great woman.

I parked the car right in front and waited as long as necessary for her to come out. I'm anxious, pacing back and forth, ignoring the stares of people in the car full of flowers. If I were called an idiot for this, it wouldn't even matter.

**SOPHIE MADSON'S POV**

I was at my company, well, at one of them. I adjusted some items in my office and was very pleased with the result. It was a phase of adaptation, so I let all the employees access to organize their spaces and get familiar with the company before diving into the bureaucratic aspects.

I was so entire that I didn't want to think about him. I can't deny that seeing him brings a pang to my chest, immense longing, but our story is over, and I won't go back to suffering, not at all!

It was already late, so it was time to go. I had many things to deal with before heading back to London and needed to be quick. But as I passed through the company's automatic door, my eyes fixated on the car full of flowers, Steven leaning against it with his hands in his pockets and that incredible smile on his lips.

"What... oh my God!"

He was drawing everyone's attention. I bring my hand to my forehead, feeling my face completely blush; he must be truly crazy.

I approach and look directly at him, still incredulous. I didn't imagine this scene in front of my building on the first day, and if there was one thing I didn't want, it was a scandal or to generate news unrelated to my work.

"Steven, what do you think you're doing?" I speak low and irritated.

"I wanted to surprise you."

He opens his arms, showing the flowers. I look around once more and notice people whispering and others filming. It was killing me inside.

"You're crazy, you must be!"

"I'm Crazy for you, in love. I love you, and I'll prove it," he says loudly.

Some people applauded, others I see comments like "I wish I had a declaration like that." He was managing to draw attention. I put my hands to my face, feeling like if I were an ostrich, I'd bury my head in a hole right now.

"Go away, please!" I demand.

"I won't leave without us being able to talk. Will you come with me, Sophie?" It was an invitation.

I didn't know what to do; he was persistent. So, I decided to accept his offer to have an honest conversation and ensure he didn't do this again because I wanted to avoid giving in every time to avoid news.

"I will, but... Just to make many things clear."

He opens a broad smile, and I observe his face. Back when he was without his memory, I didn't see that smile and missed it a lot. His clear eyes narrowed when he smiled, making him even more beautiful. Steven opens his car door, which is the only available space, as the flowers take over the back seat. I sit and feel my heart racing like a teenager. I feel angry at the sensation he is causing.

We drive in silence; he tries to bring up some topics related to the company, and I give primary responses, sometimes not even answering.

We arrive at a restaurant. The atmosphere is very romantic, and I look at him, irritated by his plans. I get out of the car with a less-than-friendly expression, and soon, a hostess leads us to a table with some candles and everything prepared. He is impossible.

"Thank you for accepting," he says, anxious.

I noticed his anxiety from his gestures; I had never forgotten and would never forget that, I have no doubts.

"I didn't have a choice, but don't do this again."

The waiter serves the wine he had already chosen. I pick up the glass and delicately bring it to my lips, savoring its delicious flavor.

"I'll do whatever it takes for you to see how much I love you!"

"Steven, things are in the past. You're in the past, understand that," I say, getting nervous.

I notice his expression changes; he becomes saddened by my words, and I could feel bad if I hadn't heard worse things years ago.

"Let me fix it, Sophie," he pleads.

"When you break a vase, even if you glue it back together, is it the same thing?" I ask.

He seems to have understood my question, primarily what I meant by it. He lowers his head, and I feel the sadness in his gaze. I needed to be strong, just as I was when I lost my son and my mother—a son who was also his.

"I apologize for everything, but we started in such a tumultuous way, and everything turned into a mess. Let's start over; I want to give my best."

"I'm not willing to risk going through all that again."

I don't know what I was doing there; my heart was tight, and looking at him made me feel things locked away. I grab my bag and stand up, not wanting to talk about this anymore because it was too painful.

"Sophie, please... listen."

"I'm not starting all this again, Steven; I'm not!" I affirm, feeling a lump in my throat.

"Sophie!"

I stand up and leave, even without finishing what we had started. I hope he understands once and for all that I don't want to suffer again, especially when I saw that woman in his company triggering emotions in me that I fought hard to conceal.

I hurriedly left that restaurant, ignoring his call, and signaled for a taxi, hoping he wouldn't follow. Luckily, I found one immediately and got in, holding back tears I'd kept for a long time.
