Chapter 28 Episode Twenty Eight
Chapter Twenty Eight
Diana’s POV
The weekend came faster than I expected and suddenly I was standing in front of my small closet trying to figure out what to wear to Kieran’s party
I didn’t have many options since most of my clothes were either work uniforms or simple things I wore to class and so there was nothing party appropriate
After rummaging through, I finally found something, it was a simple black dress that I had bought from a thrift store months ago and I guess it’s safe to say that this was the nicest thing I owned that wasn’t my slutty halter top and mini skirt combo
We should wear that, Karina suggested and I almost choked on my siliver
What? No way…Calum is already insecure enough, we shouldn’t be giving him more reasons
I countered and she simply said nothing in response
The dress was plain but it fit well and came down to just above my knees. Modest enough that I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable but nice enough for a party
I was putting on my shoes when there was a knock on my door
“Come in” I called out
The door opened slightly and Lily poked her head inside…the moment she s me, her eyes lit up with pure excitement
“Oh wow Diana you look scorching hot! Where are you going?” She asked with a smile plastered on all corners of her face
“Just to a friend’s party” Came my very casual response, she snorted
“You? A party? That’s exciting…and new” She walked into my room and sat on my bed “who’s this friend? Do I know them?” I shrugged
“Just someone from class, but since you know everyone in my school, I wouldnt be surprised if you knew him” she laughed for moment
“Him…” my brows quirked up and she rolled her eyes, “so its a guy?” She asked with a teasing smile
“Care to tell me more?” Oh lord! Help this girl and her dirty mind
“You’re insufferable Lilly, yes it’s a guy…” I started but she cut in “mm! Wow! That’s insteestjng” I gave her a look, she raised her hand in a mock surrender while im a fit of laughter
“Come on lily, stop… it’s not like that. We’re just friends”
“Yeah right” she snorted “Does sir Calum know you’re going to another guy’s party?”
My stomach dropped. Why was she asking about Calum?
“Why would he need to know?” I tried to keep my voice casual
“Oh I don’t know, you two just seem close” She shrugged “I see the way he looks at you sometimes, I mean, I’m not blind, ha-ha”
“He’s my professor….AND boss, that’s all” my voice was laced with finality and she chose not to argue
“If you say so” She stood up “Well have fun at your party, and be careful okay? Guys at parties can be unpredictable”
“I will, thanks Lily”
She left and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, why was she suddenly asking questions about Calum and I? Well there was no time for that, I grabbed my phone and headed downstairs but stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Calum in the entrance hall
He was wearing dark jeans and a black button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows
He looked so good it should be illegal
But why was he dressed like that?
“What are you doing?” I asked
“Getting ready to go with you”
My eyes widened “You can’t be serious”
“I’m very serious”
“Calum you’re OUR professor, you can’t just show up at a student party….That’s….insane”
“I don’t care, if insane the ”
“Well I care” I crossed my arms “This is a bad idea, a really very bad idea” my face pressed into a thin line as I watched him
But he seemed to have such a strong zeal “I’m not letting you go alone”
“Now you’re being ridiculous” I three my hands in the air and drew in short gasps
His jaw clenched “I’m being protective, Diana, there’s a difference”
“No you’re being controlling,” I said “And I don’t like it”
He walked closer to me until he was standing right in front of me. His eyes were dark and intense
“You’re not going to that party Diana”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me, you’re not going” I couldn’t believe my ears
“You can’t tell me what to do” was all I could manage and he scoffed — actually scoffed
“Actually I can” His voice was calm but firm “I’m your employer, and as your employer I’m telling you that you have work to do tonight. You’re not going anywhere”
I stared at him in disbelief, my mouth opening and closing with no words making it out “You’re…you’re using your position as my boss to keep me from going to a party?”
“If that’s what it takes then yes” came his flat response
Something inside me snapped and my thoughts drifted bsck to what Kieran had said that day. About how Calum had power over me as both my professor and my employer….About how I was trapped…., and the I’d shut him down completely
But did I really have a choice in this relationship like I thought I did?
The question hit me hard. I had convinced myself that I chose to be with Calum. That I wanted this, but did I really have a choice when he could take away my job and ruin my grades if I didn’t do what he wanted?
“Fine,” I said quietly “I won’t go”
He looked relieved “Good”
“Can I go to my room now?”
“Diana…”
“I said I won’t go, what more do you want?”
He reached for me but I stepped back “I’m tired, I’m going to bed”
I turned and walked upstairs to my room, shutting the door close, then lean against as I slid down
I stayed in my room for the next hour listening to Calum move around downstairs. Eventually I heard his footsteps on the stairs and then his bedroom door closing
I waited another thirty minutes to make sure he was settled. Then my phone buzzed with a text from Kieran
Hey! Party is getting started. Are you still coming?
I looked at the message for a long time and I should stay here, I should do what Calum wanted
But the thought of him controlling where I went and who I saw made me angry. I wasn’t his property…. I had a right to have friends and go to parties
Before I could talk myself out of it I texted back
Yeah I’m coming, be there soon
I changed out of my dress and put on jeans and a simple top. Something more casual for sneaking out, while i stuffed the dress into another bag that’s easier to carry, quietly I opened my door and listened
The house was silent
I crept down the stairs as quietly as I could. Every creak of the floorboards made me freeze but no one came out to stop me
I made it to the front door and slipped outside. Then I walked quickly down the driveway and pulled out my phone to call for a ride
Twenty minutes later I was standing in front of Kieran’s house
Music was playing inside and I could see people through the windows
I took a deep breath and knocked on the door
Kieran opened it almost immediately with a huge smile. “Diana! You made it! I was worried you weren’t coming”
“Sorry I’m late, just had to take care of something”
“No worries at all” he said, his smile still lingering, the. He moved aside and gestured with his hands “come on in”
I stepped inside and tried to push away the guilt. I was here now, so I might as well enjoy myself
But in the back of my mind I knew there would be consequences when I got home
Calum was going to be furious
And part of me wondered if I had just made the biggest mistake of my life
