Chapter 167 The Wreck
Chapter 167 The Wreck
Arden POV
I was worried about Lucy for the entire evening. If she was safe, if Brady showed up at the hotel, I was not sure when Mariko would send security for her. The only person that distracted me from my worries was Lana when we spoke over the phone last night. I was tossing and turning. Now, I feel tired today.
What made me worry even more is that Lucy never showed up to class today. I found myself looking at her empty seat every minute. I tried my best to be present in the classroom and deliver my lesson. It was difficult given the situation. I was relieved when the class came to an end. I packed up my things and then I hurried to the admin office.
"Hey, Arden," Oliva smiled at me flirtatiously as she packed up her things. I was annoyed. Miss Horton smiled at me as she remained seated at her desk.
"Arden, how are you? You seem to be in a rush," she said as she smiled at me.
"I wanted to know if Lucy said anything about attending class today? She didn't show up today, she had some issues at home so I wanted to find out," I said.
"Such a caring professor, I love that," she smiled.
"Too caring," Olivia chimed in, but I ignored her.
"She called in this morning. Something tragic happened to her brother. Poor little thing," she shook her head. My brows furrowed.
"What happened?" I asked, my heart was beating at a rapid pace.
"Her brother died in a tragic car accident. She is dealing with that heartbreaking situation," she replied as she continued to type on her computer.
I was relieved about it, not that anyone deserved that, but she is out of danger now. So is Lana. I let out a breath. I need to go and see her. "Thank you, Miss Horton," I said, and I hurried out of there.
As I made my way to my car in the parking lot, Olivia stood next to it, she was leaning against her car seductively as if she was waiting for me. Gosh, this woman will never stop. I opened my car door.
"We are having some drinks tonight. Maybe you could join us," she said as I placed my laptop bag in my car.
"I'm not interested," I said, but before I could get inside of my car, she placed her hand on my arm. I looked at her and she still smiled at me.
"Please, you need it. You never go out on an evening with some of the professors. It would be great to get to know you."
"I am engaged. You do not know what I need. I go home every day to my fiance and I don't need drinks or whatever it is. And do not touch me again." I scowled at her. Her smile faded away when I told her that I was engaged. She quickly removed her hand as if she had been burned. She placed her hair behind her ear, disappointment mixed with embarrassment was on her face and she looked away from me. "I do not appreciate that you touch me, or even flirt. That is inappropriate for me, so find someone else to flirt with," I said as I got inside of my car. I didn't even bother to look at her.
I started the ignition and drove away. I dialed Mariko's number and I put my phone on the loudspeaker. "Hey," he said.
"Did you hear about the news?" I asked.
"Yes, Pedro was with the police and paramedics at the scene. He retrieved Brady's phone and deleted any evidence of those photos. So you do not need to worry. However, Lana should've came to us about that situation back then because those photos didn't look good. If he made it public, Lana would've crumbled and, since that was an assault, I don't know how she would've came back from that. You did a good thing," he said.
"Did you...Did you see those pictures?" I asked.
"Yes...but everything is destroyed," he replied.
"Okay, thank you," I had a lump that was formed in my throat.
"A car chase happened with Pedro and Brady lost control. I will send you some pictures of the car wreck. He died on the spot," he said.
"Thank you," I repeated.
"Anytime, both of them are safe now," he said. "Chat to you later," he hung up. I was driving but my mind was on what had happened. I was letting it sink in. I can breathe but Lucy lost someone close to her and I didn't want her to deal with everything on her own. I drove to the hotel to see if she was there.
I do hope that her parents get back and actually be here. I know that Lucy is old enough to take care of herself but in this time, and everything that she has been through, she needs them. It angers me when some parents do that to their kids. Don't they love their kids? Maybe that was the reason why Brady acted out, because he might not have gotten the love that he needed from his parents when he was young. In some ways, I can relate, but he didn't need to f^ck anyone the way that I had to when my dad was in control of everything.
Brady reminded me a bit of my father. Perhaps there is a big reason behind the way that my father is. I do hope that one day he changes and I do want to see that change in him, not that I want him anywhere near us. But I want him to change for good, to leave the club and other issues and just focus on the business which, if he gets out of prison, will be war between him and my mother. I will not interfere in that. Both of my parents are f^cked up and I just hope that they become better people while I remain to keep my distance from them both.
