Chapter 348 - We Discovered the Truth - mdfour

Chapter 348 - We Discovered the Truth - mdfour
Gustavo

Once we arrived, we made all the necessary moves and equipped ourselves with what we needed. I was desperate to have Gladis in my arms. Onion and Cherry always ensure we have what we need for transportation, and this time they took Zombie with them.

The same plane we arrived on was now being refueled, so we wouldn't see them for a couple of hours. But when they returned, we'd even have a helicopter if needed. Meanwhile, Rat and I were in charge of the armament.

Once we had everything we needed in the cars our transport team had secured, we moved out, picking up two more cars along the way. Kevin got out to drive one, and Arnold took the other.

On average, it was the necessary amount in case we had to leave with our wives; five in each car. Churruscó was missing, but I knew he wouldn't move from the monitors; he would help us by being our eyes through the satellite.

We settled into three hotels. I stayed in the one to the left of where our women were, with Zombie and Cherry. The one on the right was occupied by Arnold, Alfredo, and Kevin.

In the one in front was the heavy crew: Roland, Simon, and Onion. There are structures that don't break. I'm in charge of my two companions, Arnold of his, and Simon and Onion are protecting the boss.

We were having dinner in my room, which had a view of the pool. Simon had installed surveillance, hacking all the hotel cameras and connecting them with the reception camera, so we'd know when they left tomorrow and also monitor the hallways of their rooms.

I was about to put a piece of meat in my mouth when we heard Simon's voice. From what I felt, I knew something had happened. Ever since my wife told me about this damn trip, I've had an itch in my butt.

Nothing good was coming our way, and when Roland, Arnold, and Simon saw me reinforcing the weapons, they knew it too. That's why when we were checking the armament, and they saw me loading more cartridges and knives, they realized we were heading into hell.

"You need to listen to this," Simon said.

"I couldn't, my dear. They… they won't let me die, and to be honest, I don't want to suffer! Bone cancer has no cure."

My ears went numb. Bone cancer? The audio stopped, and Rat spoke.

"This already happened. They're back at the bar now, listen to everything."

My skin crawled. Cherry sat down, and for one of the few times, I saw him pale. Zombie, who had interacted the least with Ines, had still grown fond of her. And who wouldn't love our old lady?

"Look how they reacted to my tumor! Now, can you imagine how they'll take bone cancer?" Ines continued.

"Forgive me, but if you don't tell them, I will. Even if they do the opposite. I won't do the same. They respect a friend's will, I respect that, and I will never condemn them for lying to us for that reason."

"What are you talking about?" Damn, Veronica didn't buy the story about Anibal.

"I know what I mean. This trip wasn't just to mend things with Shirly; we also did it because it was necessary to think. We were about to cut our husbands' indefinite services." Just look at that.

"I still don't understand you, dear."

"You'll soon know, Ines, but that's not the point here. I brought you out to make you understand that your children need to know. Don't deprive them of the time they can give you, to be with you, to show you they love you. Don't take that away from them. Would you like any of them to hide something of vital importance from you?"

"I'm very scared, dear."

And I heard her cry. I wasn't the only one with a tear running down my face; Cherry wiped his away, his hands clenched into fists.
"This week I found out and I haven't slept well. All my children are now as I always wanted them to be, filling my life with grandchildren, and I see them so happy with their spouses. If I were to go today, I would leave content, peaceful, and satisfied to see that all my children left that terrible world behind, that my kneeling and hours of praying for their souls were not in vain. And now, does God send me this?"

"There are events that don't have answers right away," said Veronica, my lip trembling.

"I don't want to suffer, to be bedridden in pain, I don't want that, Vero. I'm very afraid of that."

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves. When we return, I'll gather the family, and we'll make sure you have the best quality of life. You know my husband and everyone won't spare any expense to get you the best oncologist. Cancer spreads faster if you have a negative attitude, so my beautiful old lady, we'll face it with our heads held high."

"Let's go back. Let me think about telling the kids; I don't even want to imagine what Arnold will feel. Besides, I was just starting to enjoy Kevin, Alfredo, and Freddy, my new boys. I haven't spent much time with them," we looked at Freddy, his skinny black-haired figure crossed his arms and pressed his lips together.

"Everything will work out as it should."

"The good thing is that on the other side, I'll meet Aníbal."

"Let's go inside and have some beers."

"Oh no, dear! I'm on medication."

"Didn't you stop taking it?"

"Never! You know that if I stop, I get migraines. I could leave my underwear behind, but not my medication."

"Someone told me you had stopped. Wow! That person is turning into a big liar."

"The Boss wants you in the room in five minutes," said Rata.

I can't sleep. Since I talked to my children last night, I feel worse. Andrea doesn't notice anything; she's in her doll world, but I did question Milena. She said all her uncles went out with her dad. They spoke to grandpa in low voices, so she couldn't hear. She and Dante sensed something suspicious, so they went to find out.

I laughed so much last night listening to my daughter narrate her detective adventure. She said Dante invited her to investigate because Enrique didn't want to, as he was playing with Dayana.

I checked the time and decided to go for a run. There's nothing better than clearing your mind with exercise. I took out a sweatshirt, a T-shirt, my sneakers, and saw my gun. I remembered Simon told me never to go out without it. I left it in the bag. From the fridge, I grabbed a bottle of water. I looked at the bed where Veronica was sleeping, she was deep asleep. I opened the door and closed it carefully.

I've been running for an hour, and I have the damn feeling of being watched. I've run along the entire avenue. I looked around, only seeing two vehicles, and noted their plates. I kept running.

After three more blocks, I stopped, and looking back, one of the cars from three blocks ago had now stopped by the roadside. The windows were dark. Without taking my eyes off the car, I took a long drink of water.

The morning was already breaking, and I decided to confront whoever was behind the wheel. The driver, noticing my decision, sped off and disappeared. Damn it! We're being followed, this is not good.

I ran back to the hotel. Upon entering, a group of men was at the reception; they weren't tourists. Their body language suggested military training or at least that they were someone's bodyguards. Two black men and four brown-skinned, Latino-looking, tall and muscular. Yes, they must be the bodyguards of someone important. I reached the room, and Veronica was coming out of the bathroom.

"Good morning," she said.

"Veronica, I was followed. Someone was definitely following me while I was running."

"What?!"

"Yes, this isn't normal, and I have training, but I'm the only one here to protect all of you. I don't like this."

"Should we tell our husbands?"
