Chapter 335 - Operation - mdfour
Roland
My heart sank seeing the joy in their eyes. "Dear God, protect them." When the teacher invited them to enter, Victoria's eyes were glistening. She held Liam's hand, and our little one had his mouth like a bird's beak, making a great effort not to cry. Dante stood next to his younger brother, and Enrique next to his sister. Noticing how sad they were, he spoke.
"Mommy, Daddy! Will you be outside when we come out?"
There must be a special connection between twins. I relate it to the invisible thread between mother and children, or maybe Dante just senses it in the air.
"Without fail, son," I said, looking at Liam.
"Daddy always keeps his promises. Don't cry. We'll have fun."
Veronica was a sea of tears, and I was holding back as Gustavo would say, trying not to break down. How did these little guys get to me?
"A peculiar quartet," said the teacher, who had remained silent while we said our goodbyes.
"Liam," Veronica couldn't speak.
"Teacher, Liam is a bit slower to understand, not because of his Down syndrome. He's very intelligent, but things need to be explained to him a couple of times. However, he has an excellent ear for music. The troublesome ones are the older kids. If they don't listen, tell Victoria; she keeps them in line." The teacher burst out laughing.
"I'll keep that in mind, Mr. and Mrs. Sandoval. Now, if you'll excuse me."
"We're leaving," Veronica kept looking back every few seconds.
"What if they think we're abandoning them?"
"Veronica!" She hugged me.
"Should we stay in town until they get out?" I hugged her.
"Just for today, beautiful."
……
Daniel
I returned from taking my kids to school. When I got to the ranch, my Sweetheart was carrying Daniela, wet and wrapped in a towel.
"Just in time."
She handed me my little one, and I started tickling her belly. The phone rang, and Clari answered. After a while, she came back, looking thoughtful. She dressed the baby.
"Spill it, woman."
"They can operate on me anytime now."
She's been afraid of the surgery. Sometimes she wants it, then she backs out.
"Are you going to go through with it this time?" I know that look.
"Do you want me to?"
"It's not about me, Sweetheart. It's your decision. If you get them, I'll touch and kiss them to my heart's content. If you don't, you know I love making love to you, licking and kissing your scars."
"I'm scared, but I want to get them."
"Then confirm the surgery. When will it be?"
"Tomorrow. I need to be there first thing in the morning." I smiled at her and hugged both of them.
"Dad!" I kissed my little one.
"Everything will be fine. I'll be with you. We need to call Mrs. Claudia."
"Yes, I'll call my mom."
My mother-in-law, after the danger passed, settled in an apartment in Blanco. She's happy. I set up a bakery for her in town, and she's becoming known. She visits us every weekend. As soon as she hears Clari is having surgery, she'll close up and come to take care of her daughter and grandchildren. If there's one thing I'm grateful for, it's the wonderful mother-in-law life has given me.
Everything was organized quickly. I called Roland to change my investigation shift, classes, and care for the black horse. That stubborn guy is getting better and is really putting effort into his recovery. He can get up, sit down, but still can't take a step.
Without a doubt, what I initially saw as an act of stubbornness from the boss, as I told him at the time, turned out to be the greatest test of faith I've ever seen.
"No problem at all, Cherry. What time is the surgery?"
"In the morning."
"After picking up the kids from school, I'll come by to see her."
"I need to ask another favor. Can you pick up my kids and take them to my mother-in-law's bakery? She'll stay with them during the day, and if someone needs to stay overnight, Mrs. Claudia will."
"Count on it, I'll pick up my nephews."
"Thanks, Roland." I hung up the call and stepped out onto the balcony. I picked up my phone again and called Rino.
"Cherry." I smiled. "What am I good for?"
"Brother, I'd feel more secure if you're there for Clari's surgery tomorrow."
"Surgery for what?"
"The breast implants. It's just a precaution, if you're there and something happens, you won't let her die."
"Don't put that responsibility on me." I smiled again. "You can count on me being there. As soon as I drop Pato at the apartment, I'll head over to spend the night at your place."
"Thanks, Brother."
"That's what we're here for." As I turned around, Clari was there.
"You act calm, but deep down you're more scared than I am."
"I'm not going to deny it. With Rino there, I'm more at ease. Still, don't you dare die and leave me." Her arms wrapped around me.
"I'm not planning to leave you free for someone else to enjoy what's mine."
"You better never stop sucking your thumb." She bit my chest, and I burst out laughing.
"Why do you feel so calm with Rino?"
"Because he doesn't get flustered, it's like he has a gift for bringing people back. He saved Kevin, Pato, and handled Aníbal's situation perfectly. If anything happens, he'll bring you back."
Clari walked into the area where I wasn't allowed, alongside Rino. Now I just had to wait. Roland picked up my kids first thing in the morning to take them to school. And he also dropped me off with Inés, my mother-in-law, who would soon arrive for Daniela, her grandmother Inés was carrying her.
"Old lady, you have a check-up in a month."
"The one and only!" I smiled. "As if I would forget, Roland reminds me daily, even little Dante says, 'Grandma, they need to check your head,' and he keeps a calendar stuck to the fridge door."
That boy was the spitting image of his father, not so much physically, though he did resemble him, but in the way he analyzed everything.
"Good morning, has Clari gone in yet?" I nodded. "And she didn't wait for me! Why does she give me one time if she's going to go in at another?"
"You know her." Inés commented.
"Stubborn as they come." I said.
Hours passed, and I was getting impatient. In the waiting room were my friends, except for Zombie, who was with Aníbal. I don't know what it is, but I have a sinking feeling in my chest.
"Calm down!" I shook my head.
"Does it take this long to put in two breasts?"
It wasn't normal, it really wasn't normal. I was wearing a groove into the waiting room floor. I was about to head over to the nurses for the umpteenth time when I saw the doctors and Rino come out.
"How's my wife?"
"In perfect condition," said the breast surgeon, but he looked at Alfredo differently.
"Why did it take so long?" Rino took a deep breath.
"The room was occupied, we had to wait over an hour. After the surgery, she had complications." My ears started ringing.
"Calm down, Mr. Bermúdez," the doctor pointed to Rino. "When he saw what was happening, he took over and got your wife under control, pulled her out of the crisis, and now she's recovering. In an hour, you can see her."
"But only two people. She'll stay under observation for a week because of what happened in the operating room. I want to make sure her heart is okay," the doctor said. He smiled, seeing the number of people there for my wife.
"Daniel, calm down." Alfredo looked at me, and I hugged him.
"Thank you." I hugged him again. "I knew if you were there, you'd bring my wife back to me."
"It was nothing, she's out of danger now."
"Thank you."
"Thank you, God. Thank you for not taking my wife, don't let her go first." Well, now it's time to enjoy the new boobs.
