Chapter 305 - Saving a Friend - mdtres
Alfredo
As usual, my shift was anything but calm last night. I just wanted to sleep, have one of those delicious breakfasts made by Inés or Mrs. Carmela, and though I hated to admit it, see her... I had to push that thought away, but it was impossible.
Patricia had the most beautiful ass I had ever seen in my life. Up until then, the only ones like that I had known were silicone-enhanced, but hers was natural, just flesh. I reached my locker and noticed the countless calls from many people on my phone. Damn it! Could Lupe be in trouble? I put on my recording glasses and called Carlina.
"Finally, you answer!" She was hysterical. "We just landed from a private flight, I have no way to pay! Lobo is missing a finger, he said he had a broken rib, he got shot in the leg, and I put sugar on it, but he passed out an hour ago, and I don’t know what else to do!"
"Breathe, tell the pilot to send me the account number, I'll make the transfer right away and come get you. As long as he's breathing, everything will be fine."
Now was not the time to figure out what was happening. I ran out, always keeping a full portable medical kit in my car, and I had left a fully equipped ambulance at the airport parking lot last night. Still in my scrubs, I ran to the parking lot. My phone rang again.
"Lupe..."
"RINO! Arnold went out to buy something, it's been an hour, and he hasn't come back. I don't have his phone, please contact him."
"Is Arnold at the apartment? Calm down, he shouldn't be long."
"Arinka arrived last night, she said they killed Franka and captured Kevin... and Carlina is missing!"
Damn, damn, damn. When did everything go off the rails? If Arnold doesn’t show up... Damn it! If I had known they were coming, I wouldn't have taken a double shift.
"Lupe, remember your kids, they’re due tomorrow, don’t go into labor early. Lobo is already at the airport, and I’m on my way to get him. He’s not in good shape. Please, calm down. I'll find out where Arnold is."
"Please, don’t let them have captured him..."
That was my fear. I drove as fast as the city regulations allowed. I listened to the message on my phone with the account number and the amount to transfer. As soon as I arrived at the airport, I made the transfer to the guy and called Carlina.
"Tell the man I’ve paid, let me in, I’m coming with medical equipment."
As Rata had taught me, you always have to be prepared. Knowing we’d face the Russians on Friday, I had left an equipped ambulance because we might have injured people on our return. I took everything out of the car trunk and put it in the ambulance, then with the siren on, they let me go to the patient in hangar six.
They asked for credentials, so I handed over my medical license and the clinic ID where I worked. I never thought I’d use the vehicle to transport Lobo. They returned my documents.
With the portable stretcher and necessary equipment, I entered the plane, and my friend was... Damn bastards. Cereza’s words echoed in my mind, "To do the job well, we must isolate emotions, develop two personalities that connect. Be yourself and also be your nickname."
Right now, I’m Rino, I’m a doctor. I reached Carlina's side, took vital signs, and asked the pilot to help me carefully place him on the stretcher after a quick assessment. My phone rang.
"Carlina, please answer, if it’s Rata, tell him everything. I can’t talk right now."
I continued the assessment, the hematoma on his side indicated a rib might be puncturing a lung. He had trouble breathing, I needed to drain it. Damn it! I took the knife from my leg and found the perfect angle, I got a five on this procedure in university. "God, I am your hands, help me save my friend." I stabbed him, and a stream of blood came out.
"What did you do!"
She was still on the phone, Rata must be watching what she was doing, I haven't taken off my glasses.
"Let me do my job!" I looked at her with determination. "I was just relieving the pressure from the hemorrhage, he could aspirate."
She replied something in a trembling voice to the person asking her. I continued with my work. Quickly, I took out a dextrose and inserted it, administered antibiotics and painkillers, on the other side, I took out a bag with his B negative blood and reinserted it.
While I was rapidly administering the dextrose to prevent him from decompensating, I connected him to the portable monitor to check his vital signs. Now I could focus on the wounds, the ones on his side and lung were the most urgent.
"Sorry," Carlina said to me. "How can I help?"
"Help me disinfect the wounds and clean the sugar. Take a dextrose and clean his leg and hand. What did Rata say?"
"They'll be here in about eight to ten hours, they're already flying. When you finish with this, see if you can find Arnold, Lupe is desperate."
I nodded. The first priority was to stabilize Kevin. I continued with my work, sutured the lung wound, then looked at the leg wound and removed the bullet. He was wearing an oxygen mask, the first dextrose was finished, so I administered another one a bit slower, and finished suturing the wound.
"I have his finger, I don't know if anything can be done."
"It can be done, but it's a more delicate operation. Once we get to the ambulance, give it to me so I can put it in total freezing until we reach Blanco."
"Okay."
She had already cleaned the hand, I treated the finger and bandaged it, then I moved closer to his ear, I won't allow them to hear what we talk about. With a scalpel, I made a cut in the same incision and extracted the earpiece, signaling Carlina to put it in water. I cleaned and cauterized the wound.
"We'll finish cleaning and treating him at the apartment. He's out of danger now."
"Thank you, his last words before losing consciousness were, 'Leave me in Rino's hands.' It's admirable how you all trust each other, it was the same with Arnold." Damn, my day isn't over yet.
As soon as we arrived at the building, I didn't go to our apartments, if they already have Arnold, they could reach them. We had rented the first floor, it was the only one. I drove the ambulance in, the guards were well paid, I parked and headed to the apartment. There was nothing, just a couple of beds, a large piece of furniture, and some kitchen items. I was going to equip it today just in case, but it seems I didn't make it. There were cleaning supplies and lots of blankets.
"What are we doing here?"
"I don't know if they already know our location, for now, everyone will stay here. The team will arrive at this place."
I returned to the ambulance, unloaded everything we might need, even two more stretchers. I left Carlina with her boyfriend while I went up to get the rest of the people in my care. When I arrived at Lupe's apartment and entered, all the women were in the living room, and I only needed to see those chocolate eyes. She came to my side.
"Alfredo, are you okay?"
I nodded and then shook my head. She wasn't anything to me, but how I wanted to hug her. I was only aware when that beautiful body wrapped me in her arms.
"Thank you."
I pressed my forehead to hers. I took her hand, her expression was one of confusion, I gave her nose a little tap.
"Please, everyone gather what you need. Lupe, get the baby things and we need to bring some food. We have to get out of here." Each one went to gather what they needed, Lupe stayed on the couch, looking at Patricia.
"Her contractions have started..."
