Chapter 253 - A disastrous news - meters
Gladis
Once again, I saw the stain from my period, another month without getting pregnant. Gustavo didn't do very well in his tests; the results showed he has a sperm deficiency. They didn't say he was sterile, but it will be very difficult for us to get pregnant. I looked at myself in the mirror.
"Smile, so he doesn't notice how much it affects you. It would make him feel worse."
That's why we didn't get married when we had planned, because he didn't want to tie me down due to his sterility. Thank God, things got better. My mother-in-law had helped a lot with that, and since she found out a couple of months ago in Colombia, she's been sending him a drink whose ingredients I don't even want to ask about. I love him, and if we don't get pregnant within a year, we'll adopt.
I'll leave it in God's hands, as Vero told me. If He wants us to have a child from my Gus, it will happen. My sadness now was because I was a week late, and that gave me hope. However, I had the brown stain signaling the arrival of my period. I stepped into the shower. We arrived in the early morning and went to bed late after making love, and now we had to get ready for lunch at El Renacer. Inés needed both of us. It would be a meeting without the kids, just adults. That made my husband uneasy.
"Is there room for me?"
"There always is, love. We can't do anything, my enemy has arrived." He laughed, but this time his eyes didn't smile.
"Now I just want you to be pregnant so I can stop taking that stuff my mom gives me. Last night she said you were already pregnant."
"I confess I was late, but it came today."
"Forgive me for not being able to give you that."
"Don't start. You give me more than I want. I already have a son, and you see him as your own. Besides, Enrique adores you. He even calls your mom 'grandma,' he's very affectionate."
"Old José is happy about that. I love you, Queen."
"And I love you more. You seem worried, I already told you..."
"The truth is, I'm worried about the meeting with Inés."
"You'll see it's nothing bad. Tomorrow we're going to buy the furniture for this apartment, right?" He nodded.
"Mom liked Roland's ranch. That's good, I hope she gets excited."
"Why?"
"Would it bother you if I give you my wedding gift in advance?" I smiled like a fool. "I bought land to build a ranch like my brothers'. I smiled again. The architect, Reina, said it would be ready in six months." I hugged him.
"Did you name it like you call me?"
"No, woman. The land, the house, and everything I have is yours. Just promise me you'll always look after my mother and sisters."
"Don't talk like you're saying goodbye." He turned off the shower and handed me a towel. "I love the idea of working like Clarisa is going to, some days in Colombia and the rest here. Why are you doing this?"
"Roland blamed himself and took full responsibility for the dead we left behind. He can't leave Blanco, and I feel I should share that burden. Although we have freedom, I'll only use it to work, but whenever possible, I'll stay close to my Boss. He's going to our wedding because they're giving him a permit since we're working with this country's government."
"In those missions you asked me not to ask about, but is it to protect some mafia families?"
"Yes." I pinched his butt.
"Don't wake the bull, darling."
We kissed, then got ready, and I went to the kitchen to see about breakfast. There were hardly any utensils.
"We already bought breakfast," commented Patricia, my younger sister-in-law. My mother-in-law was at the kitchen island; there was coffee and bread.
"Good morning," I greeted everyone.
"This is the boy's breakfast," said Mrs. Josefina.
"Thank you. Love?" I looked at the time; we had time.
"Gladis, after breakfast, take the home pregnancy test."
"It's not necessary, my period came today." My mother-in-law gave us a very serious look.
"Did you two have intimacy last night?" I felt my face turn a thousand colors.
"Mom, what kind of questions are those?"
"Come on now! Don't act all prudish. Seriously, go pee and take the test. I haven't been wrong yet. With how rough my son is, I can only imagine how he is in that regard. That's why you must have bled. If you're pregnant, they can't... you know."
"You just can't help yourself, can you, old Josefina?" Gustavo intervened.
"Old yourself... I can't respond the way I'd like because I'm your mother."
We burst out laughing. I took the test, followed the instructions, and after a few minutes, there was a knock at the door. I had the test with the two lines in my hand when Gus walked in and saw me. He looked terrified.
"I told my mom not to pressure you like that."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I touched my belly. We walked out to the room where my two sisters-in-law and mother-in-law were waiting.
"Well?" I smiled.
"She wasn't wrong this time either."
Gustavo was stunned. Last night we had made love in several positions and must have been rough.
"Gus, we're going to be parents."
"No way... " I handed him the home test, and his eyes filled with tears.
"We're going to be parents. Enrique will have a little brother or sister." His arms wrapped around me.
"Thank you, Reina." My mother-in-law's arms encircled us.
"The laws of life, some die, others are born."
......
Clarisa
The kids stayed at the apartment while we went by the land where we'll be living soon. The ranch was in progress, but what Roland showed me was going to be beautiful. He was a pro at designing. I looked over at Dani; I hadn't been able to calm him down. According to him, his old lady had something. It was strange that she asked for the adults to talk. We arrived a few minutes early at El Renacer, and Gustavo, Aníbal, and Simón's cars were already there. Miguel was the only one missing, and speaking of the devil, he parked his car next to ours. He arrived alone.
"Hey, how's the new dad?" He hugged me.
"Happier than ever. I just left my little one at home." He shook hands with my husband.
"Is it just me, or does this meeting feel off?"
"We all feel the same, let's go in," Dani commented.
Hand in hand with my husband, we walked into the house, and Carmela told us they were waiting in the study. At that moment, I felt a pang of fear. Dani's grip on my hand tightened. When we entered the study, Inés was sitting on a couch.
Each couple had taken a seat, I imagine in the order they arrived. In front of her were: Roland and Verónica, to one side, Arnold with Lupe, Simón and Luisa, Aníbal and Shirly, Gustavo and Gladis looked happy, they were the only ones smiling at each other. Dani and I sat on an empty couch, and Miguel dragged Roland's desk chair.
"Miguel, son, close the door, everyone is here." They exchanged glances.
"Old lady, can we just get to the point?" Roland asked.
"Do you want the short version or the detailed one?"
"Both lead to the same conclusion," Simón commented. "What's going on, Inés?"
"Did you fall in love and are you going to introduce us to your new beau?" Miguel joked, and we all smiled.
"That would be a good reason. I'd kill that guy," Aníbal said, and we laughed again, but seeing her face made us serious.
"Seeing you all here, with your respective women, fills me with peace. Knowing that you'll have them by your side, that you were born for each other, that you'd give your lives for them, my children, that makes me happy, and I can die in peace. Because you are no longer alone in that dark world you were in.
"For years, I prayed and begged that nothing would happen to you. From the moment Simón hired me to take care of Roland when he was eight, and then one by one, you all came, I took you as the children I couldn't have. A year later, Miguel arrived..."
I looked at the mentioned ones, and their eyes seemed to glisten with tears. Everyone sensed what Inés was about to say.
"A few months later, Daniel arrived, then Gustavo, two months after him, Aníbal, and lastly, two years later, my little one, Arnold."
"Old lady, don't tell us that..." Arnold started, but Inés cut him off.
"I have an inoperable brain tumor, according to the results of the checkup I had a month ago... My children, I could die at any moment."
