Chapter ninety-five

Chapter ninety-five
Mirabella sobbed louder, shaking violently as she touched Hunter’s face with her bloody hand.

His skin felt cold.

Her hands trembled uncontrollably as she pressed them back on the wounds to stop the bleeding. He wasn't moving and this was torturing her mind.

“Hunter… pleas… don’t leave me…” she cried

His chest rose in a small, weak movement.

And then… It stilled.

Mirabella screamed his name.

“Hunter!”

Victor pulled out his knife and tore open Hunter’s shirt, pressing hard to stop the bleeding. “Calm down! He will be fine”

Mirabella cried, refusing to let go of Hunter’s hand. “Victor, do something… please do something…”

“I’m trying!” Victor shouted. “But he needs a doctor…. We just need to wait a little”

Hunter’s blood covered Mirabella’s hands, arms, shirt, everywhere. She didn’t care. She pressed her forehead to his and sobbed harder.

“Please save him… please, please, please.
Oh God…”

Mirabella sobbed uncontrollably as the ambulance doors opened and the paramedics lifted Hunter’s still, heavy body onto the stretcher. His skin looked pale. His chest barely moved. The sight alone shattered something deep inside her.

They slid him into the ambulance, and she followed instantly, climbing in before anyone could stop her. Her hands gripped his cold fingers tightly, squeezing them as if she could force life back into him.

Her tears fell on his knuckles. She rubbed his hands between hers, trying to warm them.

Fear.
Frustration.
Anger.
All of them churned violently in her chest until breathing became painful.

She wished deep down in her soul that Geret could be killed a hundred times more.

What was she going to do? Was she going to lose Hunter? Why now of all time. Now that their lives was finally beginning to make sense

Her sobbing grew louder. She leaned over him, placing his hand on her cheek gently.

“Miss,” the nurse attending to Hunter said suddenly, “you shouldn’t cry so much. It can affect his brain”

Mirabella stared at the nurse silently, not sure if she meant it or if she was simply tired of the loud sobs. Either way, Mirabella tried to press her hand against her own mouth, forcing her crying down into her chest where it burned painfully.

The ambulance sped toward the hospital. Sirens wailed. The paramedics worked. Everything felt like a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from.

When the ambulance arrived, Hunter was rushed inside immediately.

“Stay outside. You cannot come in” a nurse told her sternly as they wheeled him into the emergency room.

The metal doors slammed shut in her face.

Mirabella froze, helpless, staring at the sealed doors like they were swallowing her whole world. Her knees weakened.

Within minutes, his men came rushing… Victor, Tobias, Tally, Nate, every one of Hunter’s close circle. Their faces were tight, angry, scared. Not one of them spoke loudly. The quietness of powerful men in fear.

Ashley arrived next, almost tripping in her rush to reach Mirabella.

“Oh my God… Mira!” she cried, pulling a disoriented Mirabella into her arms.

Mirabella didn’t even respond. She simply collapsed into the hug, trembling like a leaf in the rain. Ashley ran her hands through Mira’s hair, whispering soft soothing words over and over again, even though Mirabella could barely understand anything.

Her heart hung painfully in her chest. Every beat felt like a stab.

People kept telling her to calm down, to breathe, to sit, to wait… but no one really understood what she felt inside. Not even close.

The pain wasn’t just emotional. It was physical. Sharp. Suffocating. Like someone had reached into her chest and was pulling her heart out slowly.

She knew without doubt:
If anything happened to Hunter…
She would never be the same again.
She might never come back from it.

Almost an hour passed. Slowly, she calmed a little. Her tears dried into tiredness. She ended up sitting on the cold hospital floor, her back against the wall, Ashley sat right beside her, holding her hand tightly. Hunter’s men stood around like silent pillars, pacing, cursing under their breath

Mirabella rubbed her fingers together nervously before whispering in a broken voice, “It’s all my fault” To think that Ashley had been the one trying to console and calm her down. Hunter was her brother so… Ashley should be the one being consoled if anything.

Ashley looked at her sharply. But Mirabella continued, her voice shaking badly.

“I always bring bad luck to him, Ash… I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” Her tears broke again and she bent forward, covering her face.

Ashley wasn't saying anything. She continued to hold mirabella tight. Silent tears fell down her cheeks

“I’m sorry,” Mirabella whispered again, her voice small and trembling, holding onto Ashley.

Ashley finally spoke through her tears. “You have never been bad luck, Mira. Never. You are wonderful. And we love you. All of us. Hunter loves you. Rena loves you. I love you.” She pulled back slightly and wiped Mirabella’s cheek. “Stop blaming yourself. If you don’t… I will stop talking to you.”

Mirabella sniffed and nodded quickly. “Okay… I won’t say it again. I’m sorry.” She rubbed Ashley’s back gently.

They remained on the floor together, leaning on each other, eyes glued to the emergency room doors. Every second felt like a full hour.

Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway.

Three people came running… Saraphina, Harper and Rain.

They all looked terrified, breathless, worried beyond words.

Saraphina reached Mirabella first. She immediately squatted down, taking Mira’s face in her hands.

“Oh dear…” she whispered, pulling her into a hug. “Are you okay?”

Mirabella nodded quickly. She didn’t want anyone asking her those questions again.

If they kept asking her, she knew she would break apart again.

Harper knelt down and touched her shoulder softly. “We’re here, Mira. We’re all here for you”

Saraphina squeezed her hand. “We’ll get through this. He’s strong. Hunter is too strong to give up.”

Mirabella nodded again, swallowing painfully. “Thank you,” she whispered hoarsely.

The group stood around her protectively, forming a circle of support. The hallway felt bigger somehow, filled with people who loved him, people who cared about him, people who felt this pain with her.

Time dragged.

Minutes stretched into hours.

Everyone kept waiting for news… any news, from inside the emergency room.
