Chapter ninety-four
Chapter ninety-four
His head shot toward Mirabella on the bed.
His eyes raked over her body from head to toe from where he stood… checking to confirm that she was safe and unharmed.
When he saw that nothing was unusual and satisfied that she was very ok, he breathed a sigh of relief and some tension visibly left his shoulders.
The next second, his eyes snapped back to his prey.
Geret was shirtless on the cold floor, holding his left thighs that was injured with both hands while his face twisted from pain
This sight pleased Hunter, but it wasn't enough.
So Hunter lifted his gun again and…
BANG!
A second hole exploded into the same leg. Geret screamed, gripping the floor with both hands, trying to drag himself backward. His fingers slipped on his blood.
Gunshots could still be heard echoing outside. Hunter’s men were fighting Geret’s men stationed outside. The walls shook occasionally from the force of gunshots.
Hunter stepped fully into the room now. He took slow, deadly steps towards Geret.
“You know…” Hunter’s voice was calm and almost bored. “Given how bold you acted, I didn’t expect you to be on your butt this early”
Geret gave a painful, forced laugh. “You always don’t play fair, Devil” he spat. “I thought you would at least let me have my way this time. Weren’t you away in New York?”
Hunter sighed quietly, like a man forced to have a conversation he did not want to have.
“I wish I had time for a chit-chat” Hunter said lazily. “But I don’t. My woman needs me”
He knelt in front of Geret, looking him directly in the eyes.
“You should have stayed in your world” Hunter said softly. “And let me stay in mine”
Geret gave a weak laugh, though his voice trembled. “She is too weak,” he said with a mocking frown. “She was given only one shot and she slept for hours… I would have finished everything long ago if she had just woken up like a strong good girl”
If Hunter was angered to the point of exploding, nothing in his face showed it.
His expression stayed completely blank.
And emotionless.
The fucker had used drugs on her!
Just then, Victor rushed into the room. He slowed almost immediately when he saw the situation… Geret bleeding on the floor… Hunter squatting in front of him like a demon… Mirabella tied to the bed.
Victor made his way towards Mirabella but Hunter raised a hand stopping his movement.
Hunter stood up, turned, his back facing Geret and he stared straight at Mirabella.
Her eyes were wide. Her chest rose in fast breaths. Tears were already spilling from her eyelashes. She looked small and terrified and brave at the same time.
Before she could blink twice…. BANG
He pulled the trigger and Geret fell flat on the floor.
A dark pool spread under him.
Without sparing a glance backward, He stalked toward the bed breathing hard.
He removed the strap from her legs first.
Then he removed the tie from her wrists.
The second her hands were free, she threw her arms around him and held him with all her strength. She sobbed loudly on his shoulder, shaking.
Hunter pulled her tight into his chest. He pressed her head against him and stroked her back slowly, soothing her with calm reassuring words.
“I’ve got you, babe” he whispered into her hair. “I’ve got you.”
She cried harder.
“I thought… I thought you wouldn’t come” she sobbed. “I thought he would… he would…”
“Shhh…” Hunter pressed his forehead gently against hers. “It’s fine now. You’re safe”
He pulled back a little, cupping her face with both hands.
“Did he hurt you?” Hunter asked softly, his eyes scanning her face again.
She shook her head. “You came just in time, babe,” she whispered.
Hunter’s heart thumped hard at the sound of the word. His eyes softened instantly.
She had never called him that before.
Hearing it from her mouth felt like some kind of skin tonic.
“What did you call me?” he asked with a teasing smile, his voice suddenly lighter.
She wiped her tears and whispered shyly, “Babe…”
Hunter swallowed. His chest rose sharply again. He leaned his forehead on hers.
“I love you, Bella,” he breathed out. “I’m sorry I came late. I’m sorry I left you here alone.”
“You needed to work” she whispered. “And you came back for me. Don’t blame yourself.”
Her eyes turned to the side. “But… how did you know something was wrong?”
“Zino told me” Hunter answered. “He was the bodyguard I placed on you and Rena. But he was tricked when everything happened, so he couldn’t do much.”
Maybe in any other situation, she would argue why he should make someone watch her without her knowledge, but she knew he was on edge and worried. She was not going to give him shit.
Instead, she looked at him with wet eyes and whispered, “Thank you for coming for me”
Then she turned to Victor. “Thank you, Victor”
He inclined his head respectfully but said nothing.
“Common. Let's go ho…” and two gunshots were heard making Hunter go totally still.
Mirabella jumped and screamed. Victor moved like lightning, spinning and shooting three rounds into Geret’s body.
Mirabella looked at Hunter.
Her throat closed.
Her heart stopped.
His face… was blank.
Completely blank.
With zero expression.
His eyes were wide open.
Then they blinked slowly, like his vision was fading.
“Babe?” Mirabella called out, her voice shaking violently. “Hunter?”
He didn’t answer.
His eyelids started closing.
And then…
He fell straight onto her shoulder.
The two bullets had hit him.
One on his side.
One near his left shoulder.
Blood soaked through his shirt quickly.
“Hunter!” she screamed, grabbing him as he collapsed. “Hunter! Hunter, look at me! Please...!”
Victor rushed forward, grabbing Hunter's shoulder before his body slips to the floor “motherfucker”
She cried, holding Hunter tighter. “Hunter please… wake up… look at me…”
His head fell limp against her.
His eyes shut completely.
His breathing grew too faint
The entire room spun around her.
“No… no… Hunter… babe… no… stay with me… please…. Please”
Victor shouted into his earpiece, voice fierce and sharp: “SHIT! Get Gabriel to send an ambulance”
