CHAPTER 28

~Avery~

Ashley and Tyler had spent the past few hours training me to be stronger and it has not been easy, the only good part about this was that they were patient even though, I felt nervous because I knew that he was somehow watching me and hating himself for being paired to a loser like me.

I had successfully shot the arrow at the target and it felt like the biggest win for me, I had to train so hard, so, I would impress my father, I did not want to go back to being an ordinary maid.

‘’I knew that you would be able to do it!’’ Ashley ran to hug me like a proud mother to her daughter.

‘’Thank you.’’ I replied with a wide grin.

‘’In no time, you would be good to go.’’ Tyler asserted as he returned the weapons to their various places.

If I could be better, I would definitely have my mate all to myself, he would not have a reason to reject me at the end.

I heard that he wanted to host an opening party for his pack house and I did not know whether to be glad about him moving out of the room and letting me have my freedom and happiness or sad that I would not see him often.

No matter how hard that I tried to stay away from him, I only wanted to get closer to him.

I wondered how it was so easy for him to act like I was non-existent.

I was very sure that he would not invite me to the party, maybe, this time around, he would lock me up in the room and I would not be able to escape.

Ashley was quite tired, so, she headed straight to her room while Tyler escorted me to mine because he was such a sweetheart, I felt bad that the best friends had been avoiding each other, Tyler was not joking when he said that he would not work as his Beta until their Luna was accepted and Lex on the hand did not seem to care if any of his high ranking wolves were absent in their duties.

I would hate to call him proud but I had got to call a spade, a spade.

I opened the door to find him, shirtless, staring at the window and as always, my eyes were glued.

It made me remember that night all over again, something that would never happen again, not even in my dreams.

‘’Goodnight, Avery.’’ Tyler told me before turning back to leave.

Xander was quick enough to spite him with a reply, ‘’Thanks for being her bodyguard, Tyler.’’

Tyler shrugged with a straight face, ‘’I have no problem with protecting her, I am just helping the Alpha to do his job for his mate.’’

Oh, no.

I was not ready for this drama, tonight, I just needed to take a shower and sleep like a baby tonight.

‘’Only weaklings need to be protected, that is why I am appreciating you.’’ Xander replied.

He shifted his glare to me which made me gulp down my saliva because I knew that he was about to make an offensive comment.

‘’As for you, Avery Winston, you do not need to waste your time and theirs, training when you know that you are cursed with weakness, stop trying because you would never be able to impress your father or even me.’’ He stated.

I had no words to say to him, he always had the upper hand when it came to things like this.

‘’The earlier that you realize that she is not doing this for you, the better for you. I would not let her even be a Luna to a dickhead like you.’’ Tyler fired.

‘’I am having a conversation with the girl that the goddess cursed me to spend the rest of my life with, so, it is best that you stay out of it.’’ Lex warned him.

‘’You can just call her your mate, it would not hurt.’’ Tyler pointed out.

Lex shook his head, ‘’That is a word that would never sit right with me, I honestly cannot wait for her father to take her out of my life, I do not even need to stress much, I just need to have a countdown, one thing that I have known your father for is that, he has no patience and his son would always be there to poison his mind whether you are weak or strong.’’

I could not help but admit to the fact that he was right, there was no point of me stressing them when I would still leave anyways.

I might be able to fight but if I was still unable to shift, it would mean nothing to my father.

I had to stop Tyler from responding to his words.

‘’Please, don’t worry about this, just go to your room, I will be fine.’’ I assured him while trying to hold the pain in my eyes.

He stared at me and then at Lex before letting out a sigh, ‘’Alexander, you really need to stop treating her, this way, you are going to regret it, someday.’’

‘’Regret because of her? That is something that would never happen, just listen to your Luna and go to sleep, if you had a mate, you would not have free time to be guarding someone else’s.’’ Lex asserted in a bitter tone.

I could not understand what his deal was, he would talk as if I was his and the next minute, he would trash talk me.

Tyler left after telling me goodbye and I decided to go to the bathroom but Xander stopped me.

I was forced to open my mouth to speak, this time, not caring about the consequences.

‘’You did not need to make an insensitive comment of him not having a mate though.’’ I stated.

He squinted his eyes at me and gave me a raised brow, ‘’Why are you bothered by it? Are you liking him, already?’’

‘’No, I am not.’’ I replied him.

‘’I really do not have a problem with it, he would make me happy if he takes you away from me, I would be able to breathe.’’ He commented.

He was making it sound like I was the toxic one.

‘’You should really stop trying to enchant people, so, that they would be on your side, you and I are never going to be a thing, the sooner that you leave, the better for me, I am sick of seeing your face every single day and smelling you.’’ He added.

‘’Why? Are you scared that you would fall in love with me, one day?’’ I asked him, not knowing where I got the boldness to hold a conversation with him.

He stared at me with disbelief before bursting into hysterical laughter that I feared might never end.

‘’Even if, you get a love portion from one of the strongest witches to use on me, it would never work, just look into my eyes and tell me whether you see any sign of love and care.’’

I stared deep into his green eyes and saw that it was cold as usual but this time, deeper.

I was really hoping for the day that I would see something different.

‘’Xander, we really do not have to be like this, I want to be a better and stronger Luna for you if you give me a chance.’’ I pleaded.

He put his palm in front of me, ordering me to stop.

‘’Don’t even dare to beg me to love you, just prepare yourself for the rejection that would take place in front of everybody.’’ He told me.

I knew that he had plans of humiliating me but I never knew that he would take it so far.

‘’I know you cannot, your dad would not let you.’’ I deadpanned.

‘’Oh, come on, babe. You should know by now that I always have everything planned.’’ He asserted before loosing his towel and walking into the bathroom, leaving me dumbfounded.

I really had to brace myself for the worst, there were a lot of people against me.
