CHAPTER 19

I would have been so much happier if it was a masquerade ball because my anxiety was eating me up as we stepped into the ball room, his house was so big that anybody could get lost in it and that was why I clung to Ashley, the whole time, just like Ashley stated earlier, their eyes were glued to us, well, one reason was that, she was the Lycan’s daughter and I was just a girl who stood next to her.

A wide grin appeared on her face as soon as she spotted her parents, she grabbed my hand and attempted to pull me to meet them but I was too scared to have a conversation with her father, I mean, he was the Lycan for crying out loud, I would literally start trembling and stuttering.

‘’Uh, please, can you show me to the bathroom? I have to pee.’’ I lied.

She gave me the directions with a warning that I should not get lost.

Another reason why I was running away was that I needed to hide in the bathroom for a while, I did not want my family to see me.

I finally found the bathroom after a little difficulty and it was really big, neat and more comfortable than mine.

As I stared at my reflection, I fought the urge to cry, I hated myself so much, I hated that I was so emotional.

My mate was going to be an Alpha of his own pack and I could not be by his side, it hurt even more because he was keeping me around because of his father.

In as much as I wanted to stay in here for the longest, I did not want Ashley to panic since I was taking too long in the bathroom, I would not want to stress any member of the royal family.

I sucked in a deep breath and practiced a happy smile several times before stepping out.

I froze right on the spot when I saw who was waiting for me at the door, the person that I had been avoiding for the longest.

My heart beat picked up the race as a frown displayed on his face.

‘’Why are you staring at me like I am a ghost? Have you lost your manners?!’’ He questioned me in an angry tone.

I quickly apologized and greeted him, ‘’I am sorry and Good Evening.’’

My sick apology was not enough to wash away the disdain visible on his face, ‘’When I saw you, I was like, no, it could not be her, I mean, who allowed a maid to attend a party?’’

His words stung my eyes badly and tears almost rolled out, I balled my fist and tried not to speak back at him, I would not want Ashley to see a red mark on my face.

‘’ The Winston were invited.’’ I pointed out with a shaky voice.

He burst into hysterical laughter before replying me, ‘’ A disgrace cannot be part of the Winston family, a stigma cannot be attached to Alpha Gray, you are an Omega who just happened to have his genes in you.’’

He was such a horrible person and I would rather spend years with Lex than my brother.

‘’The princess invited me.’’ I stated as if it was a better excuse for him to stop stunting me.

‘’You must be joking, why would she want to be friends with someone like you?’’ He questioned me.

She was not a shitty person like him.

He squinted his eyes at me in a deadly way and stepped closer, ‘’What did you just say?’’

Oh no.

I must have spoken my thoughts out loud.

‘’I am a shitty person, huh?!’’ He spat out and I shut my eyes in fear, fidgeting.

‘’Just few weeks in that school and you have already mustered the courage to talk back at people, you seem to have forgotten your place and I will remind you of it, as soon as I tell the Alpha to withdraw from the school.’’ He threatened.

‘’I will show you what shitty people do!’’

He raised his hands to hit me and I screamed out but I opened my eyes when I smelt his sweet intoxicating scent.

He was dressed in a white long sleeve and a horse-blood trouser; he did not look fully dressed for his event but he still looked hot down especially with his first three buttons loose and his half-dried hair.

It was the second time that he was saving me.

‘’Don’t you dare try to hit her or I will make sure to chop off these hands.’’ He warned him in a very cold tone.

I knew he was dead serious when I saw how dark his eyes were, I did not want them to fight, I would not know who to support.

Hey, wait!

I should not care if they decided to kill each other, these boys had been the reason for my pain for the longest now, so, it would do me so much good if they stopped existing but I would miss Lex badly.

‘’Who the heck are you to tell me how to handle my sister?!’’ Liam fired back at him in anger.

Xander scoffed, ‘’Your sister?! No douche of a brother would ever treat his sibling like that and I am very sure that you know who I am.’’

‘’You have no right to interfere in a family matter especially when you are not her mate.’’ Liam countered.

I never knew that he would someday admit that we were related though, it was a good thing that we did not have so much of a resemblance.

‘’I am so much more than that, one more horrible word from you to her and I will make sure that you are kicked out of this event.’’ Lex stated.

‘’A guy with his right senses would never try to defend a girl like her, you are the Lycan’s son and you are stooping so low to this, I would fucking laugh in your face if I find out that you both are mates because she is more a curse than a blessing to whoever is bound to her for life.’’ Liam cussed.

His words hurt so badly that I felt like the ground should swallow me.

It was funny how they had both told me the same thing and yet, I did not understand why Lex was standing up for me.

‘’You know what?! Fuck you, her and this coronation party, I am out of here, I never want to be in this same space as the girl who took away my happiness, it would make me sick to the stomach!’’ He yelled out before walking out on us.

As soon as he left, I leaned against the wall and allowed the tears to stream down my face.

What did I do to deserve all this hatred?

If only she were alive, I would have gotten the chance to have a happy family.

I was expecting Lex to leave me but he stood there, not bothering to say a word to me.

‘’Why are you still here? They must be waiting for you, downstairs.’’ I pointed out after sniffing.

‘’I told you not to come here but you did not listen, look at what has happened to you.’’ He stated, ignoring my question.

He was not going to tell me that he told me because he knew that my brother was going to be here.

‘’You have ruined your makeup.’’

He came closer to me and touched my arm, sending an electrifying feeling to shoot through my body.

‘’Come here.’’

He lifted me off the ground and carried me in bridal style to goddess knows where.

The strangest thing was that I could not understand why he was being so nice to me and that was enough to scare me.
