CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE
CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE
Delora's Pov
It was true that comfort was expensive, because this place was nowhere to call home. I was good at tidying up a lot of mess and was confident I would turn this uncompleted building into a comfortable place in no time.
But for tonight, I would just rest on the clothes I had folded. I hadn't told Esau or his father that I would be staying at the uncooked building behind the farm. I was delighted that I got to be away from the palace and its hostility, from Luther the very person who makes me question my existence.
I was delighted that. I have your face as my punishment and discomfort until I bear this child. But at least I had Denise and Esau and I can assure myself that all would be well.
It was very late in the night, so I presumed Esau and his father were asleep at the farm, since no one came to this side of the building.
My hand remained on my belly while I slept in a corner, but the discomfort made me stand up. My hands went in the air separately and my mouth opened in a lazy yawn.
A loud noise of a plate then echoed in the building. I held onto my heart that almost jumped out of my chest. The sound was followed by more sounds of plates and in no time, I found myself trailing where this must have come from.
I didn't know how big this place was but now I was starting to see that the uncompleted building had some rooms one could burst into. If the palace did not and up claiming this place, I would ask Esau about staying here. Or ask Queen Odessa to send the permission grant to Esau's father.
I walked further because I was certain that it must be a cat. I knew I wasn't a wolf and might not scare the cat away but I still wanted to mark some kind of territory since I would be living here now.
There was a little staircase of about seven stairs and I walked up to see more compartments.
There was a curtain at the entrance of one of the rooms. I stopped, my eyes squinting to see it well. There was a small light showing from the inside.
Gently, I shifted the curtain to a side that would grant me enough space to.see.what was happening. The plate that had caused the noise was still on the floor, not then it wasn't only that.
His height doubled in his shadowy appearance as he was facing the light, he bent his back toward a mattress. Even at night, I recognized who this was.
He muttered very small words that could not be heard and he squeezed more water out of the towel. My eyes trailed toward where his hand went. There lay a human figure and he placed the wet towel on the head.
"What are you doing?" I hated where the bravery stemmed from. I guess I become concerned whenever I see ill subjects.
"You!" Swiftly, like a trained guard, he brought out a knife and pointed it toward me. "Don't come close!" He ordered.
"Father…"
"I'm not your Father!" He charged at me with the knife and I moved back.
He was Esau's father, how else did he think I would address him?
"What are you doing here? Who sent you? Have you come to kill him like you killed the princess?" His voice was low, yet it had enough depth to scare me.
"No. No. I…I came here to see Esau" I wasn't a very good liar, but it still made sense in my ears.
"Esau doesn't live here!"
"Why do you point a knife at me?"
"You are harmful, aren't you. But I am more harmful than you think" his wolf fangs popped out and he let out a beastly growl.
Our voices were enough to wake this person but there was no movement from the man on the mattress.
"Who is he?" My eyes settled on his feet, pale, too pale. Was he Esau's brother or a family member? Why was he kept here? What was he being treated for here? Why did Esau's father look so scared?
"You must not say what you saw!" By now, Esau's father had reached me, placing the knife on my neck. "Leave her this instant, before you make me regret my actions." His harsh voice scratched my ears and his breath was hot on my face.
He then pushed me away from the room, such that I rolled down the stairs and my skin rubbed against the sharp rocks.
"Get out!" He shouted. From a distance, his wolf eyes shone toward me and I knew he had begun to get angry. I took to my feet, mustering all the strength I had to vacate the building, panting heavily as my pregnant self ran out of there.
I didn't even have a chance to tell him about staying in the building now that I had been sent off from the palace. After losing my breath, I fell to the side of a tree and took a seat there. I could not go to the farm to wake Esau up or it would only complicate things.
So I remained in the dark, under a tree, hoping to take as much time as I could until I could go back to the building.
Sleep was finding my eyes when j remembered that I wasn't meant to be here.. Lazily, I dragged my feet back to the building. It was quieter now so I just lay on my folded clothes.
No peace, no rest as curiosity itched my skin again. This time, I went as silently as I could, climbing up the stairs. The small light from. The candle on the floor flickered and I saw no one in the room.
With careful steps, I decided to take a look at the subject on the mattress. The whole body was now covered with a huge blanket. My fingers reached the edge, as I slowly let the cloth move out of the face.
There he was, a man, eyes closer, pale skin, stiff body. He was sick…he looked sick. What could be wrong with him?
My fingers went to his eyes and then his nose, like I could tell what sort of sickness this man had, until suddenly, two motionless eyes unrolled and stared up at me.
