CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR
CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR
Delora
“Why do you think she wants to see you?” Denise asked me while I was getting dressed and ready to see Odessa.
“I don’t know but I am about to find out” I said.
Ever since I told her about the baby and that Luther was the father I haven’t felt comfortable. I know no woman would be happy hearing the person she’s with is the father of another woman’s child.
“Maybe she spoke to Luther” Denise said walking me out of the room.
“She said she was going to, so that might be a reason why,” I said, unable to slow the beating of my heart. I was scared.
“What if Luther decides to send you away?” She said and I shook my head.
“I would take whatever punishment I am given but I don’t want to think about anything right now, not until I know the reason my presence was requested for” I said and Denise nodded.
“I would be waiting for when you come out” she said smiling and I nodded my head.
I watched her turn to leave as I took in a deep breath. The longer I stood outside Odessa’s door the more I felt like throwing up. My palms were sweaty because I had no idea why she wanted to see me or what Luther’s response to knowing I was pregnant would be.
“I sent for you minutes ago, I don’t like waiting” Odessa said the moment I entered her chambers.
Before I apologized or said anything I looked around the room to make sure there were no traces of Luther. He surely wasn’t the person I wanted to see.
“I am sorry my lady but getting up hastily is no longer an ability I possess” I said. There was no need for me to explain why because she already knew.
“It’s okay, I understand how you feel trust me” she said sighing.
Odessa sat on her bed, and an empty plate sat on a tray on the bed. I guess she just finished eating. I take a good look at her and noticed she had put on weight, she was looking bigger and her skin shone brighter now that she was pregnant. Well unlike me that only grew frail and worse each day.
“I spoke to Luther….” My heartbeat grew louder and faster that I almost didn’t hear her with how loud it was beating “….and he couldn’t care less about you being pregnant. He wanted you gone from the castle but I couldn’t let him do that. So I begged him”
I swallowed the huge lump of spit that sat at the bottom of my throat. I didn’t know if I should thank her or ask what type of face he made saying that.
“It took a while but he agreed that you be sent to live on the farm. There was a condition though” she said staring at me.
“I’d do anything” I said and she smiled.
“I know you will because you can’t survive outside on your own, especially not with a child. Never step foot inside the castle again” she said and I nodded.
That was better than what I had imagined. As much as I could not believe that Luther was sending me away from the castle I was grateful to Odessa for helping me stay around.
“You shall continue your punishment as that doesn’t go away but you shall live at the farm”
“But there are no houses at the farm except for the farmers' h-“
“There’s an abandoned building there, make do with it. That’s the least I could do. You see Luther didn't even want you breathing the same air as he was so getting you a roof over your head was not something I could do” she said and I fell to my knees filled with gratitude and hurt.
“I promise to never come close to the castle walls except am called for”
“Good. I would advise you to leave immediately, before he sees you” she said and I got up. I couldn’t help the tears that slipped away.
“D-did you tell Luther that he was the father?” I asked stopping right in front of her door. Something flashed on her face but it was gone before I could confirm what it was.
“No I didn't. You wouldn’t be alive if I told him that” she said and I nodded.
“Thank you my lady” I said and walked out of the room.
Denise was waiting outside so when she saw me she ran towards me and I fell into her arms and cried. I couldn’t help it. I was hurt and sad and betrayed. I felt a lot of emotions at the same time but what I felt more was pain.
“It’s okay” she muttered holding me until I calmed down and was able to tell her everything.
“This was why I didn’t want you telling her” she said as she helped me carry the little sack in which I packed my belongings.
“She would have found out anyway” I said trying to shield my eyes from the sun.
“But you would still be within the castle until then”
“It doesn’t matter. At least now I can’t get bothered about Luther seeing me. I thought he would care when he heard I was pregnant. Odessa said he didn’t and he wanted to throw me out” I said stopping myself from crying.
“I am sorry Delora” Denise said and I smiled at her.
“It’s not your fault. It’s mine for not being able to accept that he hates me”
There was nothing to smile about but I was smiling anyway.
“At least I am back to being friends with Esau. Living on the farm wouldn't be that bad” I said and Denise giggled.
“He's cute” she said and I rolled my eyes.
“I didn’t notice” I said and she slapped my back. It was more like a gentle pat.
“Anyways I should be going back. But I promise to bring you nice treats everyday. Not for you but for the baby so always remember to eat” she said sounding like a mother.
I smiled and hugged her. I stood in front of the abandoned building and sighed. This was going to be my new home. Forever.
