Chapter 51

Chapter 51

The fight went on for a few minutes, both of us blow for blow, equal in strength and training. But one of us had to better the other at some point; one of us had to tire eventually, and I think it is going to be me. My anger was dissipating fast, my strength along with it. Not eating very well lately was also affecting my performance, and it did not matter how hard I was trying.

We swiped and snapped at each other, until eventually, he managed to pounce and get on my back, pinning me to the ground under his weight, all because I was too slow to move out of the way in time. I continued to struggle beneath him, refusing to give up easily.

Reid managed to stretch enough so that he was able to wrap his jaw around my neck, instantly defusing me. Somehow, I knew that it was only a threat and that he would never actually do it, but I went still anyway, finally giving into him.

I was panting rapidly, my tongue hanging out bouncing with each breath that I took trying to fill my lungs with the fresh, crisp night air. But I could not properly with Reid’s fat arse on top crushing the bloody shit out of me.

Beaux was absolutely fuming, ‘Get off me, you fucking jumbo jet! I can’t breathe, you fat git!’

‘You gunna calm down?’

‘Not until you get your puff-ball arse off!’

‘OK,ok, I’m getting off now, just quieten down, please.’ Reid pleaded with me, like, actually pleaded. How he said it shocked me still, so there was no need for me to listen to the words he spoke.

Reid slowly let go of my scruff and lifted himself up from my embarrassingly splayed position in the dirt. As I rose to my own paws, I decided to find out why he found the need to stop me.

‘So, shitface, why did you tackle me away? I'm helping your useless pack by killing these rogues, but here you are...stopping me.’

‘You had lost it; you went too far.’ He was not impressed with having to waste more of his time on me, ‘What happened? You could’ve just killed them, then moved along. Not slashed them to miniscule pieces so that you can’t even recognise what they were to begin with.’

‘I suppose that I had some anger to let out.’ I coyly responded, whilst swiping my paw at some invisible debris around me.

‘I knew that I should’ve made you go with the other females to the panic bunker. You're nothing but a huge pain in my arse.’

That was the final straw, I blew a fuse and started yelling at the thick prick, ‘I’ve spent all my time here locked up in your bedroom, so I have no idea where anything is in this hellhole! Remember? We already went through this.’

I huffed aloud, thinking of every way possible to kill him, but gave up on the idea just as quick because of what I would go through for it. It would definitely be worth it though. I internally grinned, whilst trying to fight the overwhelming urges to at least slap the stupid outta him.

‘Fuck me, let’s go.’ It was strange to see his wolf’s head shake in such a human way before he started to saunter away into the shadows that the trees provided him.

‘Wait, go where? What about the attack?’

It was confusing to see the future Alpha that had been training to fight his whole life, just walk away, all so that he could get rid of me.

‘Take a look around, it’s over.’

I spun around, first noticing that the pouring rain had finally stopped. Then, I seen the open stretch of grass completely littered with the dead; some in their human forms, others in wolf, body parts with fur and skin were everywhere that I looked. The overwhelming stench of blood, fear and death covering from one shadow to the next, along with the sickening feeling of sadness, pummelled the hell out of my senses.

I watched as men went around checking each corpse to see if any of them were still alive, and if they were, then they were killed, regardless of which side they had fought for. I understood the logic of why, but it did not mean that I had to like it; to save on unnecessary hospital treatments on those that did not stand a chance of survival. Death was more humane than attempting to heal from the grievous wounds that they had.

Cries of pain scratched away at my ears, accompanied with the shallow breaths of the dying. Distant howls spoke volumes of the agony that mates were going through. But some of the howls that I could hear were different and further away than the pack boundaries; mostly likely those that survived their defeat and had retreated to lick their wounds.

I could not look at the depressing sight anymore and chose to follow Reid instead, turning my back on the dead and dying.

‘Wait up, I’m coming.’

As we were in still in our wolf forms, it was quicker getting back than it would have been on our slow, human legs. My head hung low as we navigated our way around everything that the dark woods offered, until somehow I was magically standing in Reid’s room, waiting for him to shower off the smell of dirt and decay before me. I could only remember flashes of getting back here because I was crashing from my adrenaline and rage high. I was swaying from exhaustion, even though my four paws should have given me more stability than two feet.

Eventually, the sound of the running shower stopped, and I could hear Reid pottering around the bathroom. The door opened a few minutes later, and Reid emerged in just a pair of dark blue sweatpants, water from the shower still glistening on his scarred but tanned skin, adding to his allure. I was just too tired to study my irresistible mate.

I barged past him and practically fell into the shower. I just about managed to transform back to my human self instead of Beaux so that I could finally wash away the clinging stench of tonight. Even though every spec had been scrubbed away, I stayed standing with my eyes closed under the warm, clean water, appreciating the temporary mental feeling of hosing away all the bad stuff and it flowing down the drain, never to be felt again.

A girl can imagine, right?

Once finished, I did not bother towelling off; I just squeezed the excessive water from my long hair and waltzed back to the bedroom butt-naked, straight into my cage without a word, laid down on my so-called bed, and looked at the back of my eyelids, knowing sleep would overcome me soon.

I could feel Reid’s eyes on me from the moment I had walked through the door, and they never once left. I did not feel self-conscious being naked in front of him, he had already seen my bare arse before, and nothing had changed since then.

Keeping my eyes shut tight, I grumbled, “What are you looking at me for?”

“Nothing, just watching you. You good, or do you need a pack doctor?”

“Thanks for the fake concern, but I’m good; nothing a good night's sleep can’t fix. Now shut the fuck up so I can get that sleep.” I was struggling to stay awake long enough to answer him, my words slurring together the more that I tried. I fought the desperate need to give in and go to the land of nod, not wanting to miss out on the chance to quip at Reid as much as possible.

“Yes ma’am, I was just asking.”

Reid had answered me with sarcasm for once, and I responded by ignoring him and rolling over, then finally giving into the pull of the sandman.
