Chapter 228
Chapter 228
The photo had several lines of glaring red text.
"Mission: Help director Ralph Cook complete the horror-themed play."
"Hints: 1. Do not damage the recording equipment or stage props;
2. The entity of the ghost can be destroyed."
"You gotta tell me what to watch out for in this room mission, and how these puzzle room missions are different from the regular ones. I mean, I don't wanna die for nothing." Charles glanced at the word "horror" in the hint, his brows furrowing slightly, but his tone stayed firm.
He usually enjoyed reading gossip, which helped him in his "assassin" work, as his hit list often included some celebrities.
Especially those in the entertainment industry.
He'd heard rumors in the gossip circles about actors or crews encountering real ghosts while filming horror themes, and their mission this time was related to such themes... and it was in the room.
The ghosts they might encounter this time could be of a very high level.
"You still have time to back out if you don't wanna do this. This mission is really tough, with a survival rate of less than thirty percent." Howard, who had been quiet for a while, suddenly spoke up.
Fiona took a deep breath and continued from where Howard left off. "Rebecca might've forgotten to tell you earlier, but puzzle room missions are different from regular ones. Especially at the same level, puzzle room missions are harder. Think of them like hidden levels in a game."
"High risk, but high reward."
Charles unconsciously bit his nails, making a sound, "You said that if a room has puzzle pieces, there'll be a warning. So, wouldn't a lot of people try to get in to grab the puzzle pieces?"
Fiona's lips curved slightly, and she patiently explained, "First, mission rooms have a maximum number of participants. No more than twenty people can enter each room. Once it's full, the door automatically closes."
"Second, players doing the mission can bring no more than three 'companions.'"
"Lastly, as Howard mentioned, rooms that can generate puzzle pieces have a very low survival rate. Not everyone is brave enough to take that gamble."
As she spoke, the atmosphere in the hall grew heavier, like the air had solidified.
Charles's expression also became more serious. He stared at the flames dancing in the fireplace, the tiny sparks occasionally jumping out like meteors, falling to the floor and disappearing in an instant.
"I'm in." The orange flames reflected in Charles's eyes, making them look like they were about to ignite. "When's the mission? Tomorrow or the day after?"
Fiona flicked her lighter, sparking a flame. "In a bit."
"Tonight? That soon?"
Seeing Charles's surprised expression, Fiona slowly exhaled a puff of smoke. "I wasn't planning on bringing you along, but we need an extra hand. No time to prep now. If you're ready, let's sign the agreement, and I'll add you to the group."
Charles nodded and signed his electronic signature on the contract on the website. Fiona then added him to the team group.
Once in the group, Charles looked at the team member information displayed and understood why Fiona took this mission.
It turned out that the person requesting their assistance was a member of a cooperating Tower House they were friendly with. The two Tower Houses shared information and resources, forming a sort of alliance to resist the schemes of rival Tower Houses.
The member's name was Roy Murphy, a handsome guy with a somewhat quirky personality.
Jeffrey was bustling in and out of the kitchen. Everyone looked at the mountain of food piling up on the table, all showing puzzled expressions. It felt like this might be their last meal ever.
"Jeffrey, stop cooking, there's enough food!" Fiona couldn't help but shout into the kitchen at the busy Jeffrey.
Jeffrey hurriedly brought out the last plate from the kitchen, his expression very serious, fiddling with the plates as he said, "Eat well so you have the strength to fight. If you can't finish, you can take it with you... the room doesn't have good food..."
Charles interrupted his rambling, "Jeffrey, you're confused. We can't bring food into the mission room."
"Right, right, how did I forget that." Jeffrey slapped his forehead. "Then eat more, eat more..."
After saying that, he sheepishly rubbed his hands and shrank into a corner of the dining table, lowering his head, and not daring to look at everyone.
Everyone knew what Jeffrey was thinking but couldn't say much. They could only pretend to enjoy the meal cheerfully, using their actions to dispel his negative emotions.
After dinner, they greeted Jeffrey and took the elevator to the fifth floor. The room at the end of the hall already emitted a faint rotten smell. As they approached, the door displayed the same hint as the photo.
Soon, white smoke drifted from the door crack, and a withered, pale hand pushed open the heavy door. Wrapped in the white smoke, the three quickly lost consciousness...
