Watching my son run through the stairs, screaming his dad's name like he had seen a ghost in human form, that little act left me devastated as I kept staring with tears in my eyes as I fought so hard to keep them contained.
"He's just a child, I don't see why his actions should get to you" Emilia knocked off emotional despair but it wasn't as easy as it sounded.
"He's a child, he's my child, my boy, how would you feel if your son runs away from you like he had sent a ghost, would you still stand here and say he's just a child?" I flared up in anger, my voice overshadowing hers in an instant.
"You have no right to say he's just a child when his actions sting like a bee, he knows exactly what he's doing and he's drifting away from me, away from his mother!" I added, my voice growing louder.
"Get hold of yourself, Arabella, do you want your son to see you as a weak mother or as a strong woman, no wonder he chose Conrad, you're nothing but weak before his eyes. Actions don't lie and you my dear have portrayed how weak you are" Emilia cursed, her teeth gnashing against each other. The last part of her speech struck me like thunder, did Michael see me as a weak mother, one who he's ashamed to be with?.
Emilia took her seat and ate comfortably from Michael's bowl of popcorn while I stood like a scarecrow, waiting for what was bound to happen next.
"It's a pleasure to have you back my lady, what should I offer you and your esteemed guest?" a beautiful feminine voice called out to me from behind, I recognized the voice so well, it was my chef.
"I'm not interested in any of your meals, where's my husband?" I asked rudely without even tilting my head in the opposite direction.
"Ma'am, you must be starving, I made your favorite meal, should I set the dinner..."
"I fucking said I'm not interested! Take your food elsewhere!" I screamed at her, turning around this time to get a better look at her annoying face.
"Serve me instead, I'm hungry, let her be my dear" Emilia interrupted, saving the Chef from what had become an embarrassment for her.
"Alright ma'am, we may proceed to the dining" the Chef suggested and Emilia rose to her feet with so much energy.
I was about to take the stairs when i heard footsteps, I stepped back, waiting to see who it was and like i already knew, it was Micheal in his hands like a trophy, he kept staring into my soul with each step he took, all I could see in his eyes were hatred, the look of despair made my heart skip a beat.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you turning my son against me like I'm the villain, did I ever wrong you?" I screamed, trying so hard to hold back the tears in my eyes as Michael stared without any remorse on his face.
"Are you seriously asking me that question? What do you even think about this family, about your family?" he screamed back, his voice loud and thick with anger.
"I hold this family in high standards, I love us as a family and all I have ever done is protect our bond, our love, and support in every way I can!" I yelled back, my eyes slowly turned red.
"Then explain to our son, explain where you were last night!"
I couldn't say a word after that question, I felt so dumbfounded as I kept staring at his face, the memories came flooding back like it just happened, how could I even lie with the look of anger in his face, he wouldn't believe a word.
"She was with me the entire time, I comforted her when your heartless actions almost led her astray. You have no right to treat her ill or make her feel bad about herself, she's your wife and you should respect her" Emilia stepped in for me, her voice overshadowing Conrad's, he simply smiled as he took some steps closer to Emilia who had boldness radiating around her like flames.
"And what right do you have to speak in matters of marriage when you aren't even in a relationship?, You are a bad influence to her, a terrible friend that should stay far away from her" I could hear Conrad whisper.
"Fuck you, Conrad, everything you are is because of this woman and you should be thankful that she hasn't dumped your ass yet!" Emilia threatened softly, Conrad's look changed in an instant as his brows furrowed, he certainly wasn't pleased to hear the truth, not by a long shot.
"Stop fighting Dad" Michael's voice came like a shock, Conrad's phone buzzed as the silence lingered on, and the smile on his face indicated someone who was certainly appealing to his mood.
"There's no need to argue, we are having some guests for dinner, we should all eat and dine as one big family," Conrad said softly like he had a change of heart in mere seconds, I was stunned but relieved.
"What kind of guests?" I asked curiously.
"You should meet them in person, Miss Arabella" he replied briefly before snapping his fingers, the Chef understood his command at once and left immediately, leaving Emilia and me in utter confusion.
"What is he up to?, Do you think he knows about last night?" I whispered in Emilia's ears as she chewed recklessly at her popcorn.
"He knows nothing and even if he has suspicions, he has no proof to back them up, no video about yesterday night will ever get to his eyes, not when I have something to do about it. You are safe, I have told you countless times not to worry" she assured and held my hand, dragging me to the dining room that had been carefully arranged.
We took our seats, watching as the Chef brought in the grilled chicken, its aroma filling my nostrils, I admired the chef's cooking, she was one of a kind, I watched as she filled the table with all sorts of drinks and delicious food that any glutton would kill for.
"What kind of guests is your husband expecting?" Emilia asked like I had a clue.
Conrad walked in, holding Michael by his side, and behind him were three guests, two middle-aged males dressed in exotic suits and a female whose beauty couldn't be overlooked. They each took their seats after waving at me, I hadn't seen any of them before and even if I did, their faces weren't familiar, not even in the slightest.
"Who are these people?" I asked loudly as I stared into Conrad's eyes, his smile was definitely fake, a defense mechanism to avoid my questions and hide the anger that burned deep in his soul but I surely knew how to prick my husband, I knew his weak spots more than any woman. He took a deep breath and kept smiling, fighting so hard to hold his anger while I patiently waited for an answer.
