CHAPTER 59

CHAPTER 59
“Could he be in trouble? Or did Aiden punch him too hard?” She thought aloud.

“What was that?” Jade questioned right away. Her brows were slightly raised.

Olivia cleared her throat after snapping out of her daze. She sat up and shook her head gently, going back to read the file open before her.

“Uhm.. it's nothing. I just—”

Her words slurred and her gaze trailed off to the distance where a familiar figure stood just right outside her door.

Confused about her boss's behavior, Jade followed Olivia's line of sight only to notice Asher standing outside.

She stared back and forth between the two who were still locked in an eye contact. They didn't utter a word but she could see the different emotions running through their eyes.

Jade's grip on the tablet in her hands tightened. This sight troubled her greatly. She moved her seat back and stood up immediately, blocking Olivia's sight from reaching Asher with her body.

“You should get back to work now. There's a lot that still needs to be done before the event.”

Jade's voice finally got Olivia's attention. She weakly nodded her head and by the time Jade turned away, the spot Asher was standing a while ago was now empty.

She bit on her lower lips before sighing deeply.

Meanwhile...

As soon as Jade left Olivia's office, she spotted Asher upfront walking towards his office. She quickened her pace and caught him by his arm before he could touch the knob on his door.

Surprised, Asher turned around only to lock his gaze on the pair of annoyed orbs glaring hard at him.

“You—”

“What do you think you're doing?” She questioned sharply. “You're embarrassing yourself. Doing all these cheap tricks of yours to mess up with her mind is not going to work.”

Asher's brows collided for a second before he drew a deep breath in. Carefully, he lifted his arm out of her grip and chuckled.

“What are you on about? I was just passing by—”

“You fucking know what I'm talking about, Asher!” Jade snapped impatiently, her eyes throwing cold glares to Asher. “You had her once but you lost her. Just the same way she's not able to get back with Kelvin, she's not going to get back with you.”

Jade took a pause, staring at him closely.

“And i know for a fact that she's not going to be with a cheater like you or the man who murdered her grandfather—”

Before she could get the chance to complete her words, she felt a strong grip on her shoulder before her back touched the wall behind her.

“I didn't kill him!” He growled. “I wish I did but it wasn't me!”

Jade could see the rage clouding his eyes but she didn't bat an eyelid, instead she pressed further.

“You're lying to the only witness who was present on that day—”

“Witness? And what exactly did you witness? Did you witness me strangling him? Or choking him to death?”

Jade chuckled dryly.

“And how did you know that he was strangled and choked to death?” She questioned sharply leaving Asher completely speechless.

“You both were involved in a heated argument and then things started crashing in his study. The door was locked and I couldn't—”

Asher released his hold on her and took a step back. He sent her a confused look almost like she had grown a second head on her neck.

“What?” he breathlessly whispered, sizing her length with his eyes. “We never argued. The old man was half dead when I saw him and he was too weak to—”

“You can lie all you want to but that won't stop Olivia from believing that you indeed were the one who killed her grandfather.” She took a step closer to him.

Her hands fell on his shoulder, she straightened up the invisible crease on his suit jacket and patted his chest afterwards.

“You might have the best lawyers in the country at your law firm but I'm a witness who you can't bribe. All I need is just the tiniest evidence against you and all these would be over in minutes.”

Asher reached his hand out to grab her arm but he grasped the air instead. He watched her back leaving hurriedly.

“I didn't—” He yelled but stopped midway. “...I didn't do it.” He whispered.

Someone was clearly trying to frame him here. It could be that Fred was responsible for his father's death.
.
.

Fred lifted his gaze when he noticed his wife was pacing around before him mumbling some words to herself.

He sighed deeply, feeling worn out from the search party he threw last night.

“How?” Stella questioned herself. “How can a pregnant woman move a man who is already half dead? Where could she have possibly taken him to?”

“You're stressing over—”

“Stressing?” She snapped, turning around to face him. “They are nowhere to be found. If that man starts talking then we are both doomed. Do you even understand that?” She queried.

He was too relaxed for a person whose roof was in flames.

“Well what evidence does he have against us? Didn't you see how much blood he lost last night? There's a slim chance that he might survive—”

“And what if he actually does?” Stella interrupted. When she got no response from him, a breathy laughter erupted from her.

“Why is the whole universe against us? Were we cursed from a previous life? Whenever we are so close to getting what we want, something pops out of nowhere and ruins it all.” She lamented bitterly.

“We are not cursed. This happened because of a little mistake from us. We should have wiped the entire families without sparing the kids. I should have killed Olivia and that servant girl from the start.” Fred finally broke his silence.

At this point, he had managed to get his wife's attention to himself.
“If I had done that long ago, the only problem that we might have is Asher Adams. I thought he blew up alongside his parents in that car. If I knew that he was still alive, I'd have haunted him down myself and put an end to him.”

“It's still possible—”

Fred shook his head slowly. “Ending Olivia and the servant girl might be possible but going after Asher won't be so easy. He's no longer a little boy. That man controls men twice his age in that big law firm.”

“Wasn't he in a relationship with Olivia at one point? We need to get in touch with Alice as soon as possible.”
