CHAPTER 48
CHAPTER 48
Olivia turned her seat to the entrance when she heard the door open without warning and a fast stomping footstep approaching.
Her brows furrowed when her gaze fell on the last person she had expected to see and right behind her was Jade panting heavily.
“I asked you to leave, didn't I?!” Jade snapped, grabbing Alice by the arm in a bid to throw her out of the office and away from Olivia.
“Let me go! I need to talk to my cousin. And you won't make me leave!” Alice retorted, standing her ground.
She refused to budge and Olivia was left with no other choice than to interfere.
“Jade, let it be.” Olivia calmly said and stood up. She made her way around her desk and stood in front of it. “Let's hear her out.”
“But Olivia—” Jade started.
“It's an order, jade.”
Alice was finally able to break out of Jade's hold and she rushed to Olivia and fell on her knees before the latter's feet sobbing her eyes out.
“Please Olivia. You can't do this to me and my parents. We have nowhere else to go—”
“If you've come here to speak highly of the people who murdered my parents, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to leave.”
Jade smiled at the response, she rushed back to Alice and made an attempt to drag her away from Olivia.
“That's enough you little bitch—”
“Please hear me out! I haven't done anything. Why do I have to suffer for my parents crimes? You're the only sister I have and will ever have, you know Olivia.” Alice pleaded desperately as she reached her hands to Olivia's legs while Jade tried to pull her away.
“Get your filthy hands off her!” Jade warned.
Olivia was torn between two choices. No matter how bad her uncle and aunt seemed to be, Alice had no part in their wrongdoings.
“Don't you dare think of believing a word this bitch says, Olivia. She's just the same as her parents—”
“Jade, please let me think.”
Jade's face fell. Her eyes fell on the bitch clinging to Olivia's legs and for a very brief second, she actually caught a smirk on Alice's face.
It happened so quickly that she began to think that her head played tricks on her.
“What? Don't tell me that you're falling for her lies. I'm sure that she's in cohorts with her parents—”
“To do what?” Olivia interrupted immediately. Her brows were slightly raised. “You just can't keep doing this. Just because you don't trust people easily doesn't mean that they are all bad—”
“Just listen to yourself, Olivia.” Jade fired back. “You're actually feeling pity for the daughter of the people who murdered our parents without batting an eye? They lied to you for years and deceived you multiple times. I'm not sure about anyone else but we've gone through a lot while growing up.”
Jade's hateful gaze fell on Alice who was still sobbing and putting up a pitiful gaze.
“And even if the whole world is weak, you and I shouldn't be. I hope you do know that I'm the only one you have left who truly want to see you happy and not this scheming bitch.”
Olivia inhaled deeply and shut her eyes for a second.
“Get out, Jade.”
Jade's jaw dropped in shock. Her eyes sting and a second later, a tear drop slipped off her eyes.
“I expected more from you and not whatever this is. She will lead you into a dark cell and turn her back on you.”
Olivia peeled her gaze off Jade and rested it on Alice who was still shaking before her. She reached down a little and gently pulled the latter up.
“It's okay, Alice. I won't let anyone throw you out or mistreat you.”
Alice let out a small smile and melted into Olivia's arms.
“I'm sorry for what they made you go through. Please forgive me, I had no idea about any of this until you told me.”
Jade's jaw tightened especially when she saw the mocking smile on Alice's lips. She just couldn't bear the thought of what Olivia was about to do again, so she left.
“It's okay. You're not at fault.”
.
.
“How could she let Alice sway her like that? After what her parents did to ours?” Jade questioned as she paced around.
It's been an hour since Alice showed up and she still hasn't left. She wondered what exactly they were both discussing that was taking up the whole day.
“What if she has done something to our boss?”
Aiden frustratedly lifted his head from his phone and stared at her as she paced back and forth.
“And why do you think that I care about any of this?”
Jade paused on her step. She turned to him with squinted eyes.
“Because you should care. It's about our boss and—”
“My job is to—”
Jade opened her palm at his face for him to shut the hell up. This was the limit, his arrogance and aura farming was just driving her nuts.
“Not one more word, Aiden! Whether you want to accept it or not, Olivia is your responsibility. I'm not sure you even read the email I sent you about your role as a bodyguard.”
“Unlike you, I don't spend hours worrying about someone whose laughter I can hear from here.”
Jade paused for a second to listen. And truly she could hear Olivia's loud laughter from her office.
“Well there's a reason why it's called, bodyguard. Body in the word is enough to tell you how much proximity you should be sharing with the boss. And as for the word guard, you're meant to protect her.”
“You're her assistant, I don't see you assisting her in anything. All you do all day is to think of ways to flaunt yourself before me. Too bad you're not my type.”
Jade was left dumbfounded at his bold declaration.
“And who the hell do you think you are? That'll be an insult to me to simp over someone like you. You're a fucking malfunctioning robot who doesn't have a heart or a conscience—”
Her words ran down her throat when her back touched the wall and his lengthy self appeared before her.
He caught one of her hands and pinned it above her head.
“Girls like you are one of the reasons I wake up on a bad mood every morning. I can see the love in your eyes for me. You're just trying to play hard—”
He hadn't finished his words when Jade stomped her foot on his. Aiden moved back from Jade as he groaned.
“Have you lost your fucking mind?! That was my favorite toe!”
“You'll have one less toe if you try that shit with me again.” Jade warned.
“Woah. Couples fight, I've always enjoyed it but too bad there's no time to stick around.”
Jade turned around to find the person who made the snide remark about her. Before she could retort, Asher had already walked away.
Then a thought crept into her head. Asher doesn't know that Fred and Stella were responsible for his parents death.
He still thinks Olivia and her grandfather has something to do with it. But if she manages to tell him the truth, he's strong and powerful enough to send those two along with their bitchy daughter to jail.
He owns a law firm and his firm has a lot of reputable lawyers. And that is exactly what they needed at the moment.
“Asher!” She called out and watched him stop. He turned slightly to her with an arched brow and a puckered lips.
“If you're stopped me just so you can gloat—”
“I need to talk to you about something important.” She cut him off.
