When the attorney left, I expected Raven to come with him. The man offered to take me, but I refused. Do we have a relationship with the company as well as this? I have to stay away; I don't know what will happen next.
"Let me, Cbiara. I'll take you properly," he insisted. I arch my brow. Couldn't he understand?
"Someone is going to pitch me, Raven; you don't need to bother." Suddenly, his face turned dark, and it seemed that I couldn't read his thoughts anymore. "Just keep your distance." I notified him, knowing that he was a married man and I had kids with me and that he was the father, which would only cause more trouble if we showed up.
"Okay." His voice returned to the usual coldness; he stood up and left without even telling me. I blinked my eyes, as I was kind of wondering why he was acting like that, but I chose to ignore it and wait for Hiro.
I already told him not to bring the kids because Raven might just be around. Raven was hella rich, so I knew he could do the impossible, so as long as I could, I avoided the fact that my kids and him were going to meet.
"Where are you, Hiro?"
"I’ll be there soon; just don't break the call. You know I have a problem with eyesight." Hiro was secretive and I was not gonna keep him from whatever he wanted to do. It was his decision in life, and I didn't want to interfere with him.
I waved my hands when he was close and said, "Turn your head to the left." When I said that, he immediately hung up and saw me, so I laughed at him. Well, things aren't always good, but despite that, I have a friend who will always be there for me.
I got into the passenger seat, and I was still laughing until he saw me. I don't know how many times he hit my hand because I was still cracking up even when he was driving.
"Where are they?" I was referring to my kids; fortunately, Hiro could speak quickly, so he immediately understood what I wanted to convey to him.
"Playing in my room, I didn't say I'd pick you up because I knew they would insist on coming over. You know them," he said, rolling his eyes as if he were done trying to baby my kids.
Hiro and I often fought when those two turned two because he gave almost everything to the children. He spoiled them so much with chocolates, toys, food, and baby talk to them. So when they turned three and my work wasn't too hectic anymore, I was strict with them. And good thing Rayden got that while Red was still a baby from Hiro, especially since they are always together.
"Don't you really have plans to say everything before we go back to Chicago?" He repeated his question earlier. I looked away. I don't know; I can't answer now. I don't know, but I suddenly became dumb. I felt like something was clinging to my throat, so I couldn't speak.
"I don't think we can return to Chicago that easily," I confessed. He suddenly turned the car and stopped to look at me with his wide eyes.
"Why? Did something happen? What?" He asked one question after another. I was afraid to say it because he might think differently. But I tried to decline the offer, but the conscience of my father could not. I took a deep breath before I spoke.
"Dad invested a huge amount of money in Raven's company; he gave everything he inherited except what was left over. Dad's rich as richest; even I was surprised by what I found out and I did not expect. Daddy curses every Smith, so I don't believe that he can trust Raven, but what I see is enough evidence to believe. My dad is powerful; it's rare to gain his trust, so... I'll try to find out why and how. There is also something written in his letter that I saw about Raven." I said in a long litany to him, he was speechless and just stared at me.
I was like that when I found out everything. I felt like I was going crazy with the amount of things I found out. Knowing my father is one of the most dangerous tycoons, he was a heartthrob when he was in school, every girl drooled over him with his greatest competitor, Mr. Smith. I also couldn't process how my granddad absolutely had two mistresses and it still paid off. Did Grandma forgive him? I don't know what to do; I'm going crazy, to be honest.
"Wow, I can't say a word," Hiro commented, even though I was like that when I found out. I wouldn't even be able to tell him everything, but it looks like I need an ally in this matter.
"Me too, Hiro; I'm going crazy, plus I see Raven almost every day." I washed my face with my hands without water. Damn, how fvcking awkward is it all?
"When will you meet?"
"I don't know; he got my phone number, and he'll text me when I'm needed." My cheeks were red as tomatoes. I couldn't really say anything, but I had to accept it all. This was my destiny.
"Gosh, girl! What if that's the way that you two get back together?" Hiro was as delusional as ever, I slapped my forehead.
"Heh! He's happy with his family, Hiro; he chose Lethia over me, so I know he doesn't regret his decision, and I was pleased to know about it. Swear." I even raised my hand as a sign that everything doesn't sound bitter. But it does inside me.
Every time I see him, everything comes back to me: all the pain and sorrow I experienced—all of it was just part of my life, and I need to escape from that.
"But...did you ever have a what-if in your mind about him? Like, what if he chooses you? What if you two end up together?" I was stunned, because...Hiro was right, I always think about that but for now? Nevermind.
