Chapter 104
Chapter 104
Aidan's POV
Two days since Professor Rockwell left school, and I could hardly breathe for fear that I might lose it again.
He'd found a way to send me a message via my mind. The man never ceased to amaze me.
Professor Rockwell's words were like a heavy gold chain on my neck. He knew how much I didn't want to do what he asked, but went ahead to press it on me anyway.
I strolled back in the main building and headed straight to class.
“Wow,” the words flew out of my mouth as I stared at the empty class looking so neat and tidy.
I remember I crashed Adrian into Rockwell's desk and the chairs were messed up. I looked around for burn marks on the floor, but found none. And what was even more weird was that the class was empty.
What the hell happened here? I puzzled, bewildered by the well-arranged class.
“I wonder where they all went,” I whispered to myself as I paused for a second, thinking.
Unable to pull out a possible location where the boys would have disappeared to, I decided to use telepathy. The only person who would be sincere enough to tell me what happened and which dark corner they disappeared to was Elly.
Hey, I said, and listened.
Hey, love, Elly cooed from the other end. Are you okay? She asked, and I could almost see her face like she was standing right in front of me.
Yeah, I am. Just scared that I might lose it. I said that last part without even knowing. I guess I forgot that she could hear my thoughts.
Why are you sounding like that?
How was I sounding? I thought, biting my lower lip.
How am I sounding? I asked myself.
Like you're still pissed. Or like what he said wasn't what you expected?
Well, I might be sounding that way because I thought I could spend some time with you but y'all are gone. The class looks weirdly clean and arranged. Did I miss a witches’ meeting?
She giggled, Yeah, you're definitely okay. I'm glad.
I am glad too. Now, where did you all disappear to?
Oh, the boys spoke of this party that was being hosted as part of the welcoming ritual for the fresh bloods.
So, they are going to a party for the fresh bloods? I sighed, face palming my forehead. They just don't want to grow up.
Elly laughed again. I smiled, melting at the sound of her light laughs and her babyish giggles.
Are you going too? I finally asked when she stopped giggling.
Um, no. I thought I should visit the library.
Seriously? I said with a frown. Out of all places, she chose the library as the best excuse.
Yeah, she giggled again. I want to check if I can find the book about the um…
Don’t say it. I cut her halfway and brief silence lingered between us, until I broke it. I'll go keep an eye on them. Don't want them taking too many young bloods.
She chuckled, Alright then. See ya later. Love you.
I smiled, like an idiot— if I could see my own expressions. I love you too.
I shut my eyes, intentionally blocking her out and dashed out of the class. We might not have the right to phones here, we're Werewolves and can improvise.
I made a quick stop at my room first, slid on a black jean, a nice navy blue shirt and a black jean jacket over it. I brushed my hair back and bathed my entire skin with cologne.
I stepped out, headed to the only space I knew the party would be happening — the cabin behind the orientation hall.
Outside the cabin, in the mowed garden, I found students scattered around like insects when the moon came out. They had drinks in hand, chatting, laughing, kissing and doing other activities that seemed too wild for a welcoming party.
I stepped into the cabin and I got hit by a wave of warmth with a mix of alcohol, cologne, flavoured smokes and loud music. I scanned around, trying to spot the gang. It was weird that the cabin looked bigger on the inside compared to its small look from outside.
“Hey, Aidan,” a lively call distracted me from my search.
I turned and I saw Trent beaming a smile at me. His elbow was resting in a cast and hung from his shoulder.
“Hey, Trent.”
We shook hands, nodding at each other.
“How's your arm?” I asked, nodding at his casted arm.
“Well, it's healing. How are you?”
“I'm okay,” I said with a smile that I know was very forced.
“Dunn is around,” he said, pointing back with his left thumb. I followed his point, and I spotted Dunn seated amongst our other teammates. He had this burn scar on his face, a scar that reminded me of the genesis of my problems.
“He asked that you come sit with us.”
“Nah. Tell him I'm good over here.”
Trent nodded and walked back to them. I weaved through the crowd to the counter for a drink, while still scanning around for Ryan, Jimmy and Adrian. I couldn't find them, but I found someone else.
Elly? What was she doing here? She said she wouldn't make it.
She was seated with her two roommates, one of which I knew very well to be Ophelia. Ophelia turned and her eyes locked with mine as I kept staring. She looked back, spoke for a few seconds and then Elly said something. Immediately Ophelia snapped her neck in my direction. She stared for a while before looking away.
What were they talking about?
Dunn bounced to their table and leaned, very close to Elly. He said something and they all laughed. Even Elly laughed!
I sprang off the stool and pushed my way through the crowd. As I approached, he sank down into the seat beside Elly and he kept yapping.
I increased my pace, without even knowing it, and in a matter of seconds, I was at the table. They all looked up to me from their seats.
“Aidan,” Dunn said, trying to give a friendly smile. “I was just asking Elly here about you.”
I glanced down at Elly, she had that look in her eyes that he was lying.
I scoffed. “Why are you asking to see me?”
“Because I just want to know if you're okay.”
It was weird seeing a big bully like him try to be nice.
I chuckled like he had made the funniest joke.
“Man, we missed you on the team. You should get better soon.”
“I'm already better, Dunn. So why don't you just go away and have a drink or something.”
Dunn smiled.
“Well, Aidan. Can we have a talk somewhere away from this noise?”
“What for?”
“I have a little surprise from Old man Grumps,” he started and smiled again.
“What?” I asked, confused. Why would Mr Grump send me a surprise through this idiot?
“Come on,” he pressed and started heading towards the entrance.
I watched him as he walked towards the entrance of the cabin.
I followed him slowly. I couldn't trust this bastard, even though he was playing nice. I knew he could never be wise. As I stepped out, he led me around the cabin to a rather dark place. This part was quiet and had no one around.
“What's the thing you wanted to tell me?” I asked, regretting why I even followed him out.
Dunn smiled.
“I had a surprise for you, Aidan.”
I turned to see the other guys surrounding.
“What the fuck is this?”
“A little revenge for the teammates you burnt and dealt with.”
I should have known!
