Chapter 30
Killian
I was very content with my life, although what waited for us back at home was deadly. These past two days had been some of the best of my life. A life that had not been easy, filled with death and abuse. But with Marcella, everything seemed to make sense. She brought light to my darkest days and hope where I thought none could exist.
I was in the shower, letting the warm water cascade over me, washing away the remnants of our passionate afternoon. I heard the door open but didn’t turn around. Instead, I smiled when I felt her tiny arms wrapping around me from behind. Another thing I realized was that I smiled a lot more since she came into my life.
Marcella pressed her cheek against my back, her touch warm and comforting. “I’m going to miss this place,” she murmured, her voice tinged with sadness.
I turned around to face her, cupping her face in my hands. “I promise to bring you back here as soon as Tony is dead and Ana is dealt with,” I said, my voice firm and reassuring.
Her eyes searched mine for a moment before she nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. “I believe you,” she whispered.
As we stood there, the water continuing to fall around us, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of protectiveness. Marcella was my everything, and I would go to any lengths to keep her safe and happy. The world had been cruel to both of us, but together, we had found a way to carve out our own little piece of happiness.
“Do you ever wish you could get out?” I tensed at her question.
“What do you mean? Get out from where?”
“I mean this life. Filled with danger. Not knowing what will happen the next second.” I took a deep breath trying to think what is the best possible answer to her question. The thing is I have been wanting to leave but this life is mine, the one I built. Its like abandoning your child. She took a deep breath and proceeded to twist my inside with her questions. “Would you still continue with this life when you have kids one day?”
All of a sudden my world went blank at her question. Kids. I never thought about having kids. It wasn't something I would even think about bringing to this world. My world.
At my silence, she pulled away and looked at me hesitantly. “You do want kids someday right?”
I swallowed hard at her words. On one hand, bringing kids to this world was the worst possible thing. But then an image formed in my mind where Marcella and a little version of her stand at the kitchen counter making sweet desserts. I shook that image away. As much as it seemed something I would want, doesnt mean I could have it.
When I still remained silent, she pulled away with a smile so sad that it was getting harder to take the next breath. She raised her hand to my cheek and raised on her toes to press a kiss to my tensed lips. “Its okay if you don't want them. I was just asking. I’m happy with only you.”
I knew she wanted those words to be true and so did I but we were both lying to ourselves. Suddenly she turned around to leave the shower. “I’m going to pack and make something for us before we leave. Hurry up.” With that she left me questioning my entire existence in a couple of sentences,
We ate dinner in silence, the weight of our earlier conversation hanging heavily between us. The meal, which should have been a celebration of our time together, was now tinged with unspoken questions and uncertainties. I wanted to assure her, to reach across the table and tell her everything would be fine, but I was grappling with my own confusion. Did I want kids? Could I protect them? I cursed internally at how fucked up my life was.
After dinner, we made our way to the private jet, the silence between us growing even more pronounced. The flight that was supposed to be peaceful and filled with dreams of our future was now clouded with doubt. Marcella sat deep in thought, her eyes staring out of the window, lost in her own world of what-ifs and maybes.
As the plane reached its cruising altitude, I couldn’t take it anymore. I unbuckled my seatbelt and moved to her side. Gently, I lifted her into my lap, wrapping my arms around her. She looked at me, surprised but didn’t resist.
“We’ll revisit this conversation once our life is dangerless, with Tony out of the way,” I promised, my voice soft but firm. “I need time to think, and I need you to know that whatever happens, I will always be here for you. We will figure this out together.”
Marcella rested her head on my chest, her body relaxing slightly in my arms. “Okay,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the plane engines.
Holding her close, I felt a mix of emotions. Love, fear, hope, and doubt all swirled within me. But one thing was certain: with Marcella by my side, I would face whatever challenges came our way. Together, we would navigate the complexities of our lives and build a future that we both could be proud of.
As the plane soared through the night sky, I held Marcella tightly, silently vowing to protect her and our future, no matter what it took. The journey ahead was uncertain, but with her in my arms, I felt ready to face it.
She pulled away slightly, her eyes searching mine. Her eyes were the windows to her soul, and I loved that about her. "Promise me that Tony will be dead soon," she said, her voice a mixture of determination and desperation.
“I promise,” I whispered, my voice earnest and resolute. “Tony will be dealt with. I’ll make sure of it.”
Her eyes softened slightly, but the tension remained. “And Ana?”
“We’ll handle Ana too,” I assured her. “But we need to be smart about this. I need time to think, and I need you to know that whatever happens, I will always be here for you. We will figure this out together.”
Marcella rested her head on my chest, her body relaxing slightly in my arms. “Okay,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the plane engines. “But I will deal with Ana.” I swear this girl was on the mission to kill me today.
“No.” My words were harsh and final. I have already fucked up her life by bring her into my world. I would not mess up further by making a killer out of her.
Her eyes narrowed at my words and she moved off my lap to pace the narrow aisle of the jet. “She is my sister. She betrayed me. She is the reason my whole life turned upside down. My bakery burned to the ground. If you think anyone but me would handle her has another thing coming.
I tried to open my mouth to calm her down but her eyes burned with fury shut me up. Me. The most feared mafia boss, scared of his wife's anger.“You will not stop me Killian. Or I swear to God there will be hell to pay.”
In that moment, I knew that Marcella was not only my love but also my equal. She had her own battles to fight, and I could not take that away from her. I had to find a way to support her without losing her to the darkness that had consumed so much of my life. Holding her close again, I whispered, “We’ll find a way together, mia belleza. We’ll find a way.”
