Dawn of a New Day Part 3
Dawn of a New Day Part 3
Malcolm
I am glad that Chase is coming around. It will make what is to come easier. I heard everything, and that will take getting used to. I suspect the bracelet wore off, or could it be something else? Anyway, Emma needs support, not us fighting over her.
I didn't rest much this morning. I just felt a shift. I arrived a bit early at Zest. Something feels off. I smell Maximus all over this. I called Niko. I want him to keep watch after we leave here because I know Emma won't let me or Chase kill Randall, even though he deserves a fate worse than death. There's a lot of good in her, but she's going to need to learn that the Underworld operates differently than the world she grew up in. “Morning, guys.”
“Hi,” Emma says bashfully.
Chase says, “We had an interesting morning.”
“Oh, I heard. Did Eric learn anything?” I ask.
Emma chews her lip. “Umm.”
I go up to her and push her back against the wall. I lift her chin. “Tell me.”
“Chase and I hear each other even under the protection of that bracelet. Eric thinks it is because we shared bits of our souls,” she explains.
“Thank you.” I wanted to hear it from her. I kissed her and backed away. I look to Chase. I want to test if he truly accepted it all.
Chase smiles. “I am fine, Malcolm. I accept it all now.”
Well, that happened sooner than I thought it would. I will keep my thoughts hidden from the others until I know what Maximus is up to.
“Why the change?”
Chase’s smile widens as he looks at Emma. “I felt it. I felt her.”
“Good. Now let's go deal with that bastard.”
Emma looks at me. “No bloodshed.”
“You're asking a lot, you know that,” I reply.
“Don't care!”
I run my hand through my hair. I knew it! She's going to have to learn to accept that some deserve death because not all are redeemable.
Darkness that demons infect can't just be wiped away. Yes, I am part demon, but even I know that not all of them deserve to draw breath.
She is going to be a challenge. She nearly drained Camille of her soul, but she doesn't want harm to come to the bastard who would have raped her.
“Rape?!?!” She gasps.
Great, she heard me. I hadn't expected that. Eric is going to need to make better blocking amulets. I sigh. “Yes, that's why he compelled you and why you couldn't move. Luckily, your Siren or another part of you saved you.”
“He wouldn't, we weren't alone,” she tries to rationalize.
“Oh, I assure you he would have,” I growled. I have wanted this bastard gone for decades.
“Why? There are tons of women at the office. Why me?” she asks.
“That's what we will find out. Come on.”
