Chapter 39

Chapter 40
I smiled back and did exactly what he had said. I opened the door quietly to find her sitting up in bed with pillows behind her to keep her comfortable against the headboard. “Are you feeling better?”

“ No.” she sobbed. “ I feel sick and I’m scared shitless.”

I sat down beside her. “ Do you want me to take you to the emergency room?”

“ It’s two hours away and what if it is nothing?” she said through her sobs.

I took her hand. “ Then we will know that everything is okay. If you feel bad I think I should take you. It won’t be a wasted trip because it’s for the safety of you and our children. Please let me take you.” She shook her head yes as she continued to sob. She asked me something, but I couldn’t tell what she was saying because she was still crying so hard. I pulled her to me and rocked her as I wiped away her tears.

“ Shh love it will be okay just breathe.” I said caressing her hair. After a while she calmed down and just laid against my chest.

“ Can I take a shower first?” she whispered.

I kissed her hair. “ Of course love.” I said as I got up to go start it for her. As I was walking back she stood up to undress and she stumbled backwards. I ran to catch her before she hit the floor.

“ Are you okay?” I asked as I picked her up and placed her on the bed.

“ I feel like I’m gonna puke and I’m very dizzy. There is something very wrong, I just know it.” she said scared to death.

I laid her down on the bed and went to plug the drain for a bath instead of a shower. I went back to the bed to help her undress and carried her to the bath. I helped her wash her hair and body before getting her out and drying her off. “ What do you want to wear?” I asked as she sat dizzy on the bed.

“ I don’t care, just get me something.” she said, exhausted.

“Do you want the sundress or the t-shirt and shorts?” I asked her as I held up the two options.

“Shorts so I don’t have to worry about showing my ass to the entire waiting room if I move to get comfortable.” she said with a small sarcastic grin.

I grinned back. “Shorts it is then.” I helped her get dressed and braided her hair. I carried her downstairs and grabbed my keys. I didn’t stop to see if everyone was worried or wanted to know where we were going. I just walked out the door and headed to my truck. As I opened the door to my truck I heard the screen door slam. When I got Faith as comfortable as I could I turned to see Sebastian standing behind me.

“ You decided to take her to the emergency room. If you need me to, I'll change my shirt really quickly and come along. All of the chores are done and you might need the support.”

“ I think we will be okay. She is just really nauseous and dizzy.” I said. “ Thank you for offering though.”

“ You’re welcome son if you find you need me after you’ve arrived just call and it won't take me two hours to get there. I promise…”

“I know dad.” I said as I jumped in the truck and cranked it up.

As we pulled away Faith sat up straighter in her seat and took my hand. “ Did I hear you just call Sebastian dad?”

“ Yes, you did.” I said still feeling bad that I could feel like I could call him dad. He did not raise me, but yet he’s been there for me so much."

“ Don’t feel bad about it.” She sensed my dilemma. “ Brett would not care at all. He knew he was your father, but he also knew that Sebastian is your dad. He would be grateful that you and Jason both have someone to look up to and who helps you like a father would. He wouldn’t want you to struggle with this. He loves you and is looking down on you right now and is so proud of who you are and what you’ve done. Without you, Sebastian, and Jason we’d still be stuck at that mansion. He would be proud of Natalie as well because she was brave enough to jump in an airplane when she hadn’t flown in years to rescue us.”

I kissed the top of her hand. “ Thank you Faith. I needed to hear that. I love Sebastian and definitely feel like he deserves the dad title after everything he’s been through with us.”

“ Now that I’ve said what I needed to say on that topic I need to take a nap. I’m exhausted.” she said, yawning.
“ Take a nap love. We should be there in about thirty minutes if I don’t get pulled over first.” I said as I chuckled to myself.

Faith’s POV

I woke to Brian telling me we had arrived. He parked and helped me out of the truck and when I was too dizzy to stand he carried me inside to find a wheelchair. A nurse quickly found one and helped us to the front desk. The lady at the front desk instructed us to go to the OB unit and where to find it. I hoped my doctor was on call today, but knowing my luck he wouldn’t be. Brian pushed me quickly to the nurses station and I let out a deep breath when I saw Dr. Rae. When he saw us he came from behind the nurses station worried.

“ What is going on, Faith?” he asked, concerned.

“ I’m tired and weak. I feel like I’m going to be sick and I’m very dizzy. I almost passed out at home earlier and Brian had to catch me.”

“How long have you felt like this?” he asked as he took my wheelchair and began pushing me to a room.

“ Just this morning.” I said.

“Have you eaten anything?” he asked.

“No, because I feel sick to my stomach.”

“ Good, because today we are going to do your blood glucose test that we had scheduled for this coming week,” he said as he opened the door to a room and pushed me in.

He looked at Brian. “ Can you help her into this gown and the nurse and I will be back in a few minutes.”

“ I can do that.” Brian said and as he helped me stand up the doctor walked out of the room.

“ I hope it's nothing bad.” I said as Brian helped me out of my shorts.

He took my face in his hands and looked softly into my eyes. His eyes looked like they had aged ten years since last year and I knew he didn’t need me to be this pitiful. I was just so scared and he knew it. “ Don’t worry love, we will get through this. Our children are strong. Look at what they have survived already. This little hiccup will not stop them from being ours.” he kissed me softly and helped me put on the gown. Just as he was tying it we heard a soft knock on the door.

“ You can come in.” Brian said as I got comfortable on the bed.
