The last decition

The last decition
VICTOR'S POV.

I found it almost weird that David had not struck back. My men had been preparing for over a week and it looked as though nothing had happened — as if it was just us waging war against each other. This was one thing I hated about the bastard, you never know when he was going to strike. At first, he acted like he'd back off but he would just act as he pleased whenever he was ready.

Just as my thoughts birthed and formed in a spiral, I jumped off my feet, startled as a loud explosion rang aloud in my head and from the sound, it came from a place which seemed to be my kitchen.

“Finally!” I yelled and walked off from where I had sat before the explosion with a grin spread across my face. If David was ready to strike and so was I. The plan I wanted to execute in my head had been waiting for weeks to be carried out, I couldn't have been more excited if the game hadn't begun now.

But of course, as I opened the door to assemble my men to carry out their work, the click of a gun knocked me out of consciousness. I startled backwards as the bullet shot at my arm, I raised my head up, face clearly worn out from pain, it was David.

“Not less expected from the fool.“ I muttered, wrapping my palm across the gunshot.

“You can back out now. I've always thought of you as a brother but if you still wouldn't, there's… here is the time now — the line has to be drawn.“ David said in a stern voice which failed to hide the fear in them but I cared less.

All I wanted from this fool was death. I roared in a bitter laugh. 'After years of being imposed over me and my real parents, he comes here to sermon me?'

I scoffed and in a gruff voice, I muttered.

“You must really be joking right? This battle had been drawn since that night I got locked in for you.“ I said slowly as I raised my hands to the door to aid standing up, once I did, I took out the gun from my pocket, holding it firm unto my hands and pointing it to his head. He didn't flinch nor retaliate and that angered me.

“Why?“ His voice cut me off from my raging thoughts. I swallowed the lump in my throat and looked up to meet his wavering gaze.

“I protected you, and you acted like nothing happened. I went in instead to the dark room after you served our maid her allergy and then you started to sting me with words? Have any idea how long it took me not to accept the words thrown at me! I stayed in the dark room, covered in sweat and tears even though I laid on the cold floor but I'd always hear the little brother never feel guilty running around the house with father? Know how that hurts?!!!!“

“No victor!! You lie!!“ His voice was sharper than mine ever was. What the hell is this dude tryna say?

“It's all your imagination.“ His voice lower and softer this time, I dropped my shoulders a bit to hear what he had to say.

“You got it all wrong, Victor.“
I stared at him, eyes widened — not surprised cause everyone all thought me as some petty fool that wouldn't identify the left from the right. Insultive jokes!

I let out a bitter laugh, already clicking the gun with a finger, not to trigger — just to threaten.

“You were the one I served the tea with nuts for. You asked for it, so why did you give it to the maid?“

My mind lost focus. Was he trying to blame me for what I didn't do? Was he gaslighting the situation even now, that death already clicked at his forehead? I let out a shaky breath, still grunting from the pain I felt by my arm, my clothes dripping with blood.

He was really stupid to have thought that I'd believe these manipulative lies they've always told to mother.

“You served her yourself cos she reported you for going underground.“ His voice was definite, the weights of his words stinged me. It was all a lie,

I shaked my head in disapproval, muttering the words,
“I never killed anyone. I never killed, I would never kill…”

His gaze on me, made me pause, to raise my head once again and look at him. I stared into his eyes and the way they shone and he blinked them, I would never be able to decify whatever he was thinking.

My pulse pounded in my ears, this was all a joke. I wouldn't have killed someone so little right? Then, his voice came in, loud and almost deafening. My heart pounded twice as harder than regular to my ears, my hands trembled, breath shaky and feet almost lost their balance.

“It was just one of your many pranks and so called discipline. How about the cats you killed down the streets because they cried? And the birds, you hit aggressively once you saw them. The dogs we always bought kept dying of food poisoning, who else did that just because they barked? And when you suddenly became like one of those animals, what happened?“

My head rang in a beat and two when a migraine shot me hard, my hands went to my head as I pressed on the spot, shutting my eyes in pain as I staggered backwards eventually hitting my back against the wall.

I remembered everything. From the cats to birds and even dogs. I remembered them, their cries and images once I laid them in the blood pool, the maid too when she told me.
But no, I never intended to kill her, it was just to cause her discomfort for a little while and she would have just been okay. Why did she really have to die?

“Victor.. I… you..“ my eyes snapped open, David stuttered and suddenly a whooshing sound in the air caught our attention.

Bullets.. triggers… gunshots… grunts… cries… blood gushing!

I raised my gun at David, he too and we stared at each other while the battle waged on as though it were the warfront — both of us with our heavy breaths..

And I knew, within me, this was the last decision to make.
