One Hundred & Thirty Seven

One Hundred & Thirty Seven
The lead to find Amara turned out to be fake. It’s been a week since the fake lead yet no sign of her still.

Darius’s phone wouldn’t stop ringing. He grabbed it, seeing Colin’s name flashing across the screen.

“What is it? Have you found her?” Darius asked, his voice tight, urgent.

“No… not yet,” Colin replied, his tone heavy. “But something worse has happened.”

Darius’s chest tightened. “What happened?”

“The trap we set for Don Matteo worked… he was arrested last night.”

Darius froze. His mind spun. “Good and what the worse thing?”

Colin’s voice was cautious. “He told the police… he didn’t kill your parents.”

Darius’s hand clenched around the phone, knuckles white. “What? That bastard… he’s lying.”

“I thought so too,” Colin said. “But then… he said he knew who did it.”

Darius’s stomach dropped. “Who?” His voice barely a whisper.

Colin hesitated. “Lorenzo.”

The world seemed to tilt. Darius staggered, a sharp pain stabbing at his temple. “That’s a lie… my uncle wouldn’t… ”

But as he struggled to steady himself, the memories began to stir. Pieces he had buried, fragments of whispered conversations, small hints he’d ignored… they were coming back, clawing into his mind. His head throbbed, his heart raced.

“No… no,” he muttered, shaking his head, trying to push it away. But it kept coming. The image of his uncle, the tone in his voice… it didn’t feel wrong. It felt familiar. Dangerous. Real.

“Darius… you okay?” Colin’s voice pulled him back, urgent.

He gritted his teeth. “I… I need to think. Would call you.”

His body went stiff, every instinct on alert. If what Colin just said was true… if his uncle had played a part in his parents’ death… nothing in his life made sense anymore. The person he had trusted most, who he had believed was his ally, might have been his enemy all along.

The storm in his chest grew. Anger. Betrayal. Fear. And a cold, burning clarity: he would get the truth, no matter what.

He ended the call and sank into the chair, fists on his knees. His mind raced through every memory, every interaction with Lorenzo, every word that now felt like a lie.

Darius’s jaw tightened. One thing was certain… if his uncle had betrayed him, the man who had been his family, his blood, there would be consequences.

His head ached, but his resolve hardened. He whispered to himself, voice low and deadly, “If you did this, Uncle… If this is true . I won’t spare you.”

The night outside was calm, but inside, Darius was a storm waiting to break.

Darius didn’t wait. He grabbed his keys, the weight of rage and betrayal heavy in his chest. Every step toward his car felt like walking on fire. His mind replayed Colin’s words over and over: Lorenzo. His uncle. The man he had trusted, the man who had always been a shadow in his life… was he really capable of such treachery?

He drove fast, the night air whipping past him, but his thoughts were louder than the engine. Every memory of his uncle… mentoring him, protecting him, teaching him was now tainted with doubt. Was it all a lie?

When he arrived at Lorenzo’s estate, the gates loomed like dark sentinels. Darius didn’t stop to ring the bell or announce himself. He didn’t need to. He stormed in, his presence loud and dangerous. Guards stepped forward, but one look at his eyes made them step back. This wasn’t the Darius they knew… it was a man driven by fire.

Lorenzo appeared from the hallway, calm as always. “Hey buddy,” he said smoothly. “It’s late. What brings…”

Darius cut him off with a growl. “Don’t. Lie. To. Me.” His voice was low, deadly, each word a punch. “I know. Colin told me. Did you have my parents killed?”

Lorenzo’s face didn’t change. “Now, that’s a strong accusation. Calm yourself, boy. You don’t even know what you’re talking about.”

Darius stepped closer, every muscle taut. “Stop pretending. Don’t tell me you didn’t. I trusted you, uncle. I thought you were on my side. How.. how could you do this.. you had Matteo’s men kill my parents .”

Lorenzo raised an eyebrow, still calm, but his eyes flickered with something… fear, maybe calculation. “Careful, boy. Accusing family without proof is dangerous. You think you can just storm in here and make such accusations l?”

Darius’s fist slammed against the table, rattling the glasses. “Proof? I don’t need proof. I have Colin, I have the truth piecing itself together. Don’t deny it. Don’t lie to me. You killed them. You betrayed me. And if you think I’ll let this slide… you’re wrong. And one thing you forgot Don Matteo never lies.. he might be a scumbag but he always tells the truth or hide it. But he would never tell a lie”

For a moment, Lorenzo’s cool mask faltered. A shadow crossed his face. Darius noticed it instantly. The fear of being caught.

“You’re reckless,” Lorenzo finally said, voice low. “You have no idea what you’re up against. You think I’m the only one playing games here?”

“I don’t care who’s playing games,” Darius snapped. “You hurt my parents, you betrayed me, and I swear… if you think you can get away with it, you’re dead wrong.”

Lorenzo’s eyes hardened. “You’re still just a boy with anger, Darius. You don’t understand the full picture.”

Darius leaned forward, his face inches from his uncle’s. “Then explain. Right now. Why did my parents and sister have to die?”

The room was silent except for the pounding of Darius’s heart. Every second felt like an eternity. The reckoning had come. And Darius wasn’t leaving until he got answers.

Lorenzo finally exhaled, a thin, measured breath. “You want the truth, boy?” he said, voice tight. “You’re going to get it. But be ready… some truths will burn you from the inside out.”

Darius’s lips curled into a cold, hard line. “I don’t care. Tell me.”
