Chapter 95 His Mother

Chapter 95 His Mother
\[Grant’s POV\]

I shift my gaze to Gianna to find that her large gaze is on me. She’s taking me in expectantly and I know that this is her way of telling me that you can let out everything that you’ve been holding close to your heart.

But where to begin?

Did I start with my birth, my childhood? Do I tell her the good things and then move into the bad thing? Or did I just tell her about when I came to live with Anthony and my father?

Honestly, I didn’t care to relive that time because it was the worst years for me. I was trapped, lonely, and mourning during that time, but if I wanted to try to shift my relationship with Gianna, then it would be best that I told her the whole story.

“I didn’t always live with my father.” I begin, deciding to start from the beginning. “My mother wasn’t his wife. She was a woman that he was sneaking around with and when she became pregnant with me, the only thing he was willing to do was support her while she carried me and after my birth.”

“It was supposed to stay like that. His dirty secret. We were supposed to just live quietly while he went on with his life and his little family. I was fine by that. I didn’t have any interest in the man who helped create me. My mother was enough and the home and life we built together was perfect for me. However, when I was seven, my mother grew ill. She was diagnosed with cancer and because her hospital bills were piling up and I had no one else to turn to for help, I found my father and when I did, I found my grandfather as well.”

“The minute he learned of my existence, he demanded that I go and live with them and be raised to work in the company, but I refused. I didn’t want to leave my mother, not when she was suffering. I was stubborn, but I was also too young to make any real decision for myself. Because of that, I was forced to leave my mothers side and go to that house.”

“After it happened, I snuck out and went back to my mother, but she was really bad off. The doctors told me that she didn’t have much longer and when my grandfather’s men found me, she passed away right in front of me.”

For a moment, I stop talking as I let all the emotions that I haven’t allowed myself to feel since that time start to envelope me.

Fuck it hurts. The way my heart squeezes. How it feels like many tiny little knives are stabbing into me. It hurts like hell and I realize that even if I’ve gotten older and I’ve moved on with my life, maybe I never really stopped grieving.

“After her death, my grandfather handled her funeral arrangements for me, but once they were over, she was a topic that wasn’t allowed to be brought up in our home. A single mention of my mother would set Anthony’s mother off and then it would lead to she and our father arguing, but even when she wasn’t mentioned, I was still there, the proof that he cheated and that he had a child with someone he wasn’t married to. It was too much for Anthony’s mom and she ended up divorcing.”

“After that, my father’s lust for women and pleasure grew until he was too busy fucking or drinking to really pay much attention to the company and because of that, my grandfather demoted him and started training Anthony to be the next CEO.”

“My father was furious. He couldn’t stand the fact that his own father would do such a thing to him and that his own son would go along with it, but Anthony threw himself into preparing. He was ready. He knew that it was his duty to take over, and when he finally got the chance to prove himself, the deal he was working on ended up being stolen by a rival company.”

“Grandfather was furious and he didn’t hesitate to remove Anthony from the company and even kick him out of the family. He wouldn’t listen to anything Anthony tried to say to explain his innocence, he only listened to what my father, the supposed hero who discovered Anthony’s deceit and that’s how my father got back on my grandfather’s good side.”

“It was only later that I overheard him talking about what he had done to ruin Anthony and to get back what was his, but even if I said anything, it wouldn’t do any good without proof. I always feel guilty toward Anthony because I couldn’t do anything to help him and now I feel even more so because once Anthony was out of the picture, my grandfather naturally began to focus on me.”

“My father didn’t calculate this into his plans and when he found out, he was livid because I was only a bastard child and not what he considered an actual son of the Holdin family, but since I carry the Holdin blood in my veins, I was and would be the next in line to become CEO since both my father and Anthony were ruled out.”

“I’ve had to be on my guard ever since and because I wanted to solidify my claim, I went overseas to fix the mess that my father caused and when I returned…well…you know the story from that point on.”

“I’m sorry you had to go through all of that.” Gianna murmurs, reaching over and touching my leg and when she does, I tense, not because I don’t like it, on the contrary, I like it and after letting all of that emotional baggage out I feel freer. “Did you just get turned on just from a touch?”

“And if I did?” I challenge, shooting her a look. “Is that a problem?”

“A bit,” she admits. “You just relived all of that shit you went through and just by a mere touch, you’re okay.”

“But I’m not.” I tell her. “I’m not okay and because I’m not okay, I am craving your warmth.”

“Sly,” she sighs and I can almost hear her eyeroll. “Just get us home before it gets too painful.”
